SCOTUS Upholds Obamacare

There's a frighteningly large portion of the population here that is disgusted beyond belief that any of their own money might benefit somebody else. These people love to take advantage of all the benefits that everyone else in their society has contributed to, but they'll bitch and whine and make up bullshit statistics for days, as I'm sure you've witnessed here. The ironic part is that these kinds of people love to label anyone else who gets benefit from the communal pool as a "taker".

Then you have the airtight, can't possibly refute it, mother of all arguments against socialized healthcare - "that could never work!" I know that as a citizen of a first world country you probably believe that it works quite well, but you're wrong, you just don't realize it.

You're right We should tax food to where it costs twice as much because everyone has a right to food. We should double mortgage payments because God dammit everybody has the right to a home And that car payment let's double or triple it because who in the fuck can survive without a car or look for work anyway

What a selfish heartless bastard I was.

I'm in the same boat.

In my view it doesn't go far enough. The sane thing to do would have been to have universal single payer health care for everybody. The Affordable Care Act is flawed, but in the democrats defense it's not like the republicans have offered anything remotely close to a workable better alternative, and a lot of the dems would have wanted a universal state health care system if they could have gotten it unlike nearly all republicans when it was passed.

(And no, going back to where millions are uncovered by insurance isn't better or workable.) We got something that was half-assed because the alternative was even a lot worse.

Agreed. I am hopeful that now it is pretty much indelibly etched into the fabric of our society that it will evolve into a single-payer system that takes the "half-assedness" out of what the ACA currently brings. It's a steppingstone in a best-case scenario and a pretty shitty and weak attempt at providing general health care in a worst-case scenario.

Fix the tax code and none of that would be necessary.

Horseshit

I don't take too kindly to extortion.

I give enough of my hard earned money to the government already. They haven't proven they can be responsible with what they get now. No fixing of the code. Abolish the IRS and move to a Fair Tax. Of course that won't serve the socialists and their aspirations.

Oh, yeah, because I'm sure you're so rich that you really fear getting hit with a big top bracket hike. A truly fair tax would lower the rates most people pay, of course you're locked into how the tax code currently works. There are ways to even shit out, rake in huge revenues without taking everyone to the cleaners, but I'm sure most of the ideas would be dead in the water to a pure capitalist such as yourself.

Let's hear your plan to " even shit out" while taking more of my money.

Really , I want to hear them. Since Democrat economic plans and power grabbing of 1/6 of our economy have worked out so well to this point.

If you want to see some really liberal ideas for the economy just look them up, they're not secret, and I love the way you insist how wealthy you are. Good luck with that dream coming true some day.

I have never once discussed my financial status on this board except to say I make a decent living.

Now , I welcome being corrected if in fact I have displayed moments of I am richer than you douchebaggery.

Bemoaning a tax code that has some of the lowest rates in income tax history, constantly complaining about poor people taking "your money", hell even your user name. You complain like the estate tax just stole your inheritance. Wah. You know what, it really doesn't matter. I couldn't care less what your financial situation is, if you're rich, good for you, paying a little more in tax certainly won't put you in the poor house or keep you from eating. You hate the government, that's obvious, hate liberals too, apparently, probably listening to too much Mark Levin. I really don't care, you can be a bitter miserable little man all you like, rich or poor doesn't really matter when you have so much pent up anger, and you've got it, friend, in spades. You would do yourself a world of good if you let it go, You Might even find some happiness in life, but again, that's for you. I won't promise I'll ignore you going forward, but it's abundantly clear that you have no intention of making even the smallest effort to reel in your angst, and as such, enjoy your dominance of the P&R Section, because saner minds will just avoid it.

So you can't produce evidence of me going all Thurston Howell. My username? Really? The word Countach is not even in most people's lexicon. I thought it was about as an obscure name as I could choose.

Let's see what else. Hmmm Angry, well I am certainly not happy about the direction of our country that is for sure. If you can't get angry over that what can you get angry over?

Your problem is that you don't like conservatives. Especially ones that actually can form their arguments instead of just posting memes and emoticons.

Now you are resorting back to YOUR old habits of whining about other's habits. If you don't like my behavior, the passion that I disagree, my demeanor, then simply ignore me.

Quite frankly, you are becoming known as the whiniest poster on this board, and it simply is because you rarely form an argument without resorting to insults or acting like you are their guardian. But go ahead and complain about this too. Just as you do everything else.

Australia has only slightly higher personal taxes than here, and still pretty low by global standards. But for that tax you can walk into hospital and be operated on and walk back out with more money than you had going in. They were paying people $5k a pop a while back just for having a kid. You can also go to school and get a government backed, interest free loan, with payments taken out as an extra couple of percent in income tax only after you earn a set amount (used to be 30k). And if you have trouble getting a job for 12 years, you get unemployment for 12 years as long as you really promise you're looking. Yet somehow the median wealth of an Australian is quite a bit higher than that over here.

I know full well that this is not Australia, so don't give me that bullshit, but also don't tell me that it can't be done.

I think I have found a resolution to the discourse on this board.

But it would do some of you some good to read the guidelines for this section before you get your panties all in a wad the next time a poster comes along that you don't agree with.

It explicitly states that if you can't handle heated exchanges then maybe this section is not for you.. This was not directed at you Mongo.

Enjoy your board!

How does it not work?

The NHS has been part of British lives for over 70 years. In my, and many others opinion it is one of the single greatest feats provided by the government to the people of the UK. Free healthcare for all. No one has to worry about whether their insurance will cover it if they fall ill, or if they lose their jobs. I fully admit that the NHS has many problems and can be extremely wasteful at times, and is in need of reform, but does it work? You're fucking right it does. There is real fear in the UK that the current tory government will continue to privatise the NHS through the back door as they have already been doing for the last five years.

One question for those who oppose it so strongly. What would happen if you were to lose your job and not have the money to cover your medical insurance and you were to fall ill or be in an accident?

Blue Countach is a goddamned American treasure.

Sorry, but he is just the same outta control, angry man you are and he can't get a grip on himself facing the world changing and you both having to suck it up.

Instead, you are venting in here. On the bright side, this venting might save you from becoming what others in the news carry out with guns on the people they despise so much.

Careful; what you mean to say (and an intellectually honest person in disagreement with you would know you mean to say) is free at the point of use, paid for by taxes. We all know there's no such thing as 'free'.

Don't let the blind complimenting the blind on their good looks phase you; just chuckle and move on.

I see the weight of recent events was too much for our Blue friend. What with the Confederate flag taking a spanking, Obamacare upheld, and marriage equality prevailing, the writing on the wall for the party that supports the failed causes he champions is pretty obvious. Blame me for his departure, hey, that's awesome but everyone knows it wasn't my fault. After all, someone that's "becoming known as the whiniest poster on the forum" would be easy to ignore, particularly after spelling out above that I'd had enough of the bitter sour grapes routine. I predict he won't be gone long, Closed Accounts are just as easy to reopen and with the truly whiny temperament this guy's got he won't be able to contain himself. In the off chance that he chooses to stay gone, good riddance, but I really hate to see it come to this, every forum needs an articulate foil and I'll give him at least that much, he's no assari. Be sure to crack open some good cheese, Blue, you need something to go with all that wine.
