It keeps people like you out of Texas.

Why does it get under you skin so bad that I hate rap? So fucking what? Get over it, dude.

Im off, never to visit this thread again. No need to reply.

so you were forced to listen to rap for 3 hours?
that does suck, youknowwhati'msayin
i dont like too much of it either but some of the slower smooth rap i think is ok, but i never go out of my way to listen to it, youknowwhati'msayin.
personally i think the whole rap thing is ridiculous.
the new stupid vocabulary they create is just fucking gay.
bling blling, po po, its laughable, youknowwhati'msayin.
its like i want to be cool so badly.
i want you to think i'm a tough guy.
they aint too tough, they never did nothing, youknowwhati'msayin.
tough guys dodge bullets in wars, face death and see death everyday, do the right thing always, not put on special clothes and rhyme words.
ya'll knowwhati'msayin?

but i got you beat jag, you know where i live.
i get to hear loud salsa music everyday in which every song is the same.
theyre all the same music and the same topic, love, how original.
i get home and turn my stereo way up high
or at the gym i get to hear the worst music ever, and loud: reggaton and electronica(music for morons).
that'll drive you up the wall in a hurry, just repititous noise.
its also kind of faggity to see men in a gym listening to that.
i'm gonna make a hard rock cd for nights in the gym, then i'll probably feel a whole lot better when its on, oh when its o-o-on.

The secret ingredient? MY BALLS
I had the "privilege" of entertaining a client tonight who is a rap "music" aficionado. Enduring the featured entertainment at the club we attended was quite likely the worst 3 hours of my life. I couldn't wait to get the fuck out of there.

I know I'm going to come across as an old angry white guy but this sorely needs to be said for those on this forum who can relate to my position. Rap "music" totally sucks. It really isn't even music....it's just the same, repetitive, redundant (can we turn down the bass just a little bit?) and morally bankrupt garbage "song" after idiotic "song"....glorification of violence and disrespect toward women and anything that represents any type of authority. Now, I can totally understand being against the establishment for sure. Hell, Ive been a rebel since I was a teenager. However, there's a right way and a wrong way to approach it. Rap and its ideals are the wrong way. Sorry....it's the truth.

Rap is wrong. It sucks. I hate it.

OK, all you ass-backwards ballcap-wearing homeboy SOBs can go ahead tear me apart....I don't care. Your "music" is garbage.

99% of rap sucks. Most of it is overly produced, trendy bullshit that is composed of lame beats (that musically unexperienced teenagers enjoy), worthless rhymes and terrible production quality. The huge majority of rap is total garbage that is absolutely unlistenable.

But, there is a very small grouping of artists who are actually talented. Not just as lyricists, but as musicians as well. I hate rap just as much as the next cliche, "I love classic rock" white guy, but there are some rap groups that I truly do enjoy listening to. The same goes with country; I hate 99% of it, but there are a certain few songs that I actually do find to be very excellent in the sense of musical talent and quality.

I see a "Rap Music Sucks" thread and a "Country Music Sucks" but where is the "Metal Music Sucks" thread. Why do these 2 genres get an angry tirade thread but metal music gets a free pass? You can't even understand a single word in metal music unless you have a lyric sheet. All you hear is the lead singer screaming nonsense over a microphone. In fact I don't even think the singer knows what he's saying because the background music is too damn loud and I think the music is designed to be that loud so that it can drown out the singer because they don't want the listener to know that the singer is actually speaking in tongues. Now that that's said, I enjoy all types of music. I give everything a listen before I decide if it's good to my ear or not. My mp3 player is made of Metal, Rap, Pop, Country, R&B, Orchestra, Rock etc.... but I'll be the first one to tell you that 90% of the music today sucks in general. Not just one genre but many genres so I don't think it's fair to single out one type of music because odds are that the music that you're listening to is probably the biggest piece of horseshit to come out of any music studio to someone else.

No problem and I do agree that I am ordinarily more composed than this diatribe would seem to indicate. However, had you been subjected to what was something that I find so despicable and irritating for 3 solid hours tonight while I was, for business reasons, forced to be "nice" to this client (whom I really despise), you might have a few raw nerve endings too.

I'll eventually get over it and I will most certainly return to my nice old reasonable Jagger self once again I assure you. In the meantime, sometimes the gorilla comes out of his cage. Tonight, he came out.

I think I like this Jagger better. ;)

I can totally relate to what you were subjected to. I've worked many shows in my time as a stagehand, but no other genre is anywhere as annoying as rap. Everything from the production, the gear used, the attitudes of the artists and the management, the fans, etc., etc. is generally bad. True, there have been exceptions, but the majority of the time I'd rather do anything but rap.

A couple years ago I was on show call at the Rock The Bells festival. That was likely THE worst experience working a festival that I've ever had. After 10 hours of the same music constantly blaring from various stages any festival gets old, but Rock The Bells took the cake. From 11 am that the doors opened until around 11 pm that the show was over I had to listen to rap. At a festival you really can't get away from the music. Even backstage, where there's generally no music playing, the noise was deafening, partly because it was only about 50' behind the main stage, and there were no buildings between the stage and the catering tent. The money was great, but about 4 hours into the show I was ready to stick pencils in my ears.

i completely, whole heartedly, 100% agree with you.

I've been in your shoes before; I lived in Mexico. All you hear at parties, public transportation, etc. is salsa. I don't mind it every once in a while, but when that's all you hear everywhere it gets annoying.

But, there is a very small grouping of artists who are actually talented. Not just as lyricists, but as musicians as well.

I once worked for a guy that calls himself Immortal Technique. He has got to be THE most talented rapper ever. He told the crowd to hold things up, or throw stuff on the stage and that he would rap about it. Sure enough, he started rapping, and people started holding stuff up. Keys, clothes, phones, cameras, water bottles, sun screen, anything and everything that people held up he rapped about. And I'm not talking about him just spewing out a line or two about each item held up; he actually managed to integrate everything into one flowing, coherent rap. As much as I hate rap, I found that feat quite admirable.

Ace Bandage

The one and only.
I'm not reading all of the other posts because frankly I don't give a fuck about what the rest of you have to say. And since you guys all (probably) elucidated your opinions with run-on sentences, improper grammar, and misspelled words, I feel compelled to spew my thoughts as well. It doesn't make a difference to me if you stop reading right now. Go ahead.

I did read Jagger's post as he was the thread starter, and I totally agree with him. Rap is somebody yelling over a beat and cursing arbitrarily. I'm sure it relates to some people but not me. It doesn't take any talent because there's nothing to the lyrics. What can you say about the best rapper: look, he can talk faster than the other guy. High five, douche!

I'll take Indie Rock, (some) Alternative Rock, or just plain old Rock music over rap any day. You can reply, but I won't respond. As stated earlier, I don't give a fuck if you agree or not. I don't like the music (and I use the term very loosely), and nothing you say will change that.

Rap/Hip-hop is the most popular genre of music in America is it not?:yesyes:

NASCAR is the most popular sport in America, but it doesn't mean that driving around in circles take all that much talent. What a dumb argument.

First of all, country is the most popular genre of music - rap and R&B is second. Secondly, rap is popular because of TEENAGERS. Teenagers buy into the most horseshit things in life - not because they're good, but because they're trendy little shits who just want to fit in with the crowd. And, recently, hip-hop and rap music has been "cool", so almost every single teenager listens to it. Not because it's GOOD, but because "everybody else is doing it".

Dont know if this has been said... but there is a big, BIG difference between Rap, Hip-hop, and R&B... all three are a different type of music... they may sound similar... but they are all three their own style of music....

but Rap itself is usually really angry music... I dont mind it so much... but alot of it is just really really strong opinions... and its full of junk that you wouldnt want your kids to hear or start to think...

Rap is not music any less so than heavy rock is. All the yelling and random drum pounding. That stuff is absolutely terrible. Dont get me wrong, theres some shitty ass rap as well. But at least you can dance to it. Jumping up and down does not constitute dancing.

I agree to an extent... people could say the same thing about the heavy metal or heavy rock....

BUT....

at least in heavy metal the band actually plays music, and believe it or not it is generally the hardest music to play because of the fast riff's and how it is literally "controlled chao's"

and usually in music like that... its real emotion in the music, and the fans connect with that emotion and the lyrics...

not sayin rap isnt the same way... cause it completely is... Im just throwin mine in to give this thread a bit of a boost....
