Thought the Wings would of made it a 1 goal game late but the Bs hold on with the battle of back up goalies with Rask and Howerd not playing. 5-3 final.

Great game this afternoon in Beantown.

Hawks and Rangers @ 7:30 EST on NBCSN later.

We are getting some playoff hockey performances lately. Lots of 0-0 periods. Rangers - Hawks last night was yet another. I am pretty sure Robert Louis Stevenson had this year's Bruins in mind when he wrote about Dr. Jeckyl. (I am too lazy to look up and make sure RLS wrote it.)

He wrote it but I'm not sure he was a hockey fan. Either way, it fits. The crazy game last night between the Blues/Jets is a perfect example. Jets come out strong early and take a 1-0 lead. The Blues come storming back and score 4 straight goals to ice the game, right? Wrong. The Jets come back to score 3 straight in the 3rd to tie the game. A little over a minute to play tied 4-4....OT right? Wrong again. Blues Barret Jackman tosses a seemingly harmless lob toward the goal from close to center ice and the Jets goalie Pavelec (who was standing on his head until this) loses sight of it and the puck lands in the net for the game winner.

Jekyll & Hyde indeed. Hockey is awesome. I feel bad for Jets fans today cuz that was a tough one to take.

Time to revive this thread, guys! Coming down the final dozen or so games of the season you can see things starting to take shape. Speaking specifically about the Western Conference, the Blackhawks have been simply amazing during Kane's absence. In spite of how well the Blues have played in recent weeks, the Hawks have slowly but steadily gained on them while the Predators seem to be tanking. The Wild have been the hottest team in the league since the first of the year and the Jets are just downright scary to play. Here's the way I see the Central Division ending up at year's end:

1) Chicago
2) St. Louis
3) Nashville

The West is starting to take shape as well as the Kings have surged ahead of Calgary in recent days for the final wildcard spot. Even still, if they can't finish 3rd in their division, they might be left out so here's how I see the Western Division:

1) Anaheim
2) Vancouver
3) L.A.

Wildcard teams will be the Wild and Jets. Interestingly, this scenario sets up perfectly for another Hawks-Kings final in my estimation. Hang on....it's going to be a wild ride.

interesting battle in the east for the 8th playoff spot. my money is that ottawa takes it. what do you guys think? boston? florida? ottawa?

its amazing that there are a dozen games left and 4 teams are already eliminated. those teams are a fucking mess id say

it occurs to me that it is a good possibility that ottawa will meet montreal in the first round and that would be fucking awesome. montreal should fear that though i think they make it to at least round two. montreal has a shot this year with their consistency

Ottawa's win over the Bruins last night was huge. Boston could have dealt them a death blow with a win but now the Sens only trail by 2 points. Should be a dogfight. The Panthers took a hard loss against the Habs but they are still in it as well but they probably need to win about 6 in a row to have a chance.

A team with this much talent and structure that plays this shittily doesn't deserve to be in the playoffs, tbh.

Got so bogged down with the job I forgot the Bs were swinging down through Florida. While i probably could make it to the Miami area for tonight, I am quite content to watch it on the telly.

Congrats Wings fans.

A quick goal for both at the the start of the 3rd period and the OT. Wow!

You can't take that many penalties and hope to get away with a successful PK every time....especially when you're playing shorthanded 4 against 3. I suspect Berglund will be in Hitchcock's doghouse for awhile....he took 2 really bad penalties today. Regardless, I'll take the point from our game in hand against Nashville. We need to close this brutal road trip out strong against Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Then, we get 6 out of the final 8 games at home before the playoffs start.

True. But the 40 secs carry over on at the start of OT Wings PP was another quick goal at the start and I blame Allen for that.

Blues for the two first periods did a great job staying out of the box with the Wings three trips that resulted in a goal can factor in later the Blues playing dumb fouls in the 3rd. The first fight might of factor into it with the later near the boards and the goal as NBC had to cut the commercial break music might of change the Blues poise.

I don't know which game you were watching but I saw the Blues take 3 penalties in the first period alone so I would exactly say they did a great job of staying out of the box. The Blues are at their best when they take the lead (which they did today), get great goaltending and play stout defense (which they did today) and stay out of the penalty box (which they did not do today). Hell, we took 8 minor penalties in the 3rd period alone. Blame Allen if you want (I thought he was terrific) but it's a goal waiting to happen when you're playing 4-on-3. Anyway....it's over. Off to Pittsburgh.

Didn't tune in until the start of the 2nd. Seen the Wings penalties in the 2nd, so didn't know Blues were undisciplined also in the 1st. Will check the box score for that.
