NFL '18 Season Thread

Well, I guess now is as good a time as any to start one of these.

Congratulations to the Philadelphia Eagles. One year wonders or the start of the NFL's next great dynasty? Only time will tell. I know which one I'm hoping for.

We already have things to talk about:

San Francisco has signed Jimmy Garoppolo to a 5 year 137.5 million dollar contract.

Alex Smith was traded to the Redskins seemingly paving the way for Kirk Cousins to sign with the Browns or Jaguars or Jets or whomever else.

Where does Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles play next year?

Will the Giants move on from Eli Manning? Some of you may recall that the Giants hired former Panthers GM Dave Gettleman who has an interesting history with aging veterans.

Who will buy the Carolina Panthers? It won't be P Diddy.

Leveon Bell has stated he will consider sitting out or retirement rather than play another year under the franchise tag. Interesting contract situations are also on the horizon for Odell Beckham Jr, Aaron Donald and other people who I can't think of at the moment.

Will Rob Gronkowski retire to pursue an acting career? If so, will it be in porn?

Free agency starts next month. The Draft is after that. Before you know it training camps will start and NFL football will be back. NFL Season '18 Thread starts now.

I think the Panthers can be very good, or they could suck donkey balls. No middle ground.

And by donkey balls, I mean not winning it all.

I think the Eagles will sustain their competitiveness. No glaring issues with on-field team or off-field organization.

Helluva lot of money for Jimmy G, but if you're them, you do that deal every day of the week, and get two in for Sunday.

Alex is going to keep the Redskins offense somewhat on schedule, but pop-gun (no bellcow RB to fear), with an improving defense. So frustratingly mediocre. I don't know where Kirk goes, but if it's Arizona, they'll be back in the Super Bowl, in possibly 2 years. And Larry staying to battle. His old peer Anquan has 'em, and Larry does NOT want to retire without a ring, if it's in reach. Hoping for Kirk in the desert. My other team.

Foles stays put.

Eli will play a final year, and Gettleman will have a QB in the wings by camp. Benching Eli a second time will not be the shit storm it was. Someone already paid for that.

Contract gum-bumping is that - every one of those soft pussies that have to choose eventually fold. When you've had money, you want to keep that shit going.

Shame about the Panthers, I mean it. Pretty talented team, and that's going to distract, no way it can't. We'll see.

Gronk will have me watching WWE, if he gets into that. And I think that shit's for the mildly retarded. No, I'm fucking with you! Still reading, is all. Yeah, rasslin.

Panthers have parted ways with the team's all-time leader in rushing attempts and yards, Jonathan Stewart. End of an era. Injuries and Father time claim another one, cap hit didn't match production sadly.

Here is a video of him planting Ronde Barber. Good times.

I hate to see Jonathan go but his production has dropped off. Is he retiring? I think a new team could re-energize him and he could make a decent third down back for the right team. All the best.

Franchise tags have been handed out:

LeVeon Bell, RB, Steelers
Ziggy Ansah, DE, Lions
DeMarcus Lawrence, DE, Cowboys
Jarvis Landry, WR, Dolphins
LaMarcus Joyner, S, Rams

Transition tag:
Kyle Fuller, CB, Bears

Who will and will not be available next Wednesday when Free Agency opens is beginning to become clearer.

A great many goings on today:

Kirk Cousins will reportedly sign a fully guaranteed contract with the Vikings tomorrow for 84 million.

Packers sign Jimmy Graham, release Jordy Nelson.

All-Pro former Panther Andrew Norwell expected to sign with Jacksonville for 5 years 66.5 million, 30 million guaranteed. Went from undrafted free agent in 2013 to highest paid Guard in the league.

Ryan Koenigsberg: The four highest-paid players in the NFL next year will have won a grand total of ZERO playoff games combined.

Crazy day.

Got this from Reddit:

Happy Falcon's Blown Lead Day. Today, 3-28, we celebrate Atlanta's historic collapse in Super Bowl 51, losing the game despite having a 3-28 lead in the 3rd quarter. May your Falcon's Blown Lead Day be merry and bright.

Man, I wish the Panthers could land Beckham. He and Cam on the same team would make them the
Most hated team in the league. That kinda energy generally translates into wins.

Preseason_Opponents_Tw.jpg

Panthers preseason opponents announced. Interestingly enough, those are the same opponents Carolina had in 2015 and that season was pretty good.

Cowboys have released Dez Bryant. San Francisco and New England are the rumored front runners to secure his services.

The Draft starts tonight. Just thought I would let everyone know.

Dez Bryant remains unsigned as of this writing. Likely teams are waiting to see what their rosters look like after the Draft before making a more there. It is alleged he turned down a multi-year deal with the Ravens in the hopes of getting a one year deal and being able to hit the open market again next year.
