Mortal Kombat movie that won't be cheesy!?

Michael Jai White as Jax? Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade? Baraka and Reptile as homicidal maniacs? This footage from what looks to be the next Mortal Kombat game or movie trailer is brutal, disgusting, and perfect.

Reader Kev directed us to this video, featuring a realistic new take on the Mortal Kombat franchise that has more in common with movies like suspense and horror films like Seven and Saw than anything resembling the campy video game to film adaptations we've seen in the past.

Last we heard, Warner Bros. was looking to reboot the film franchise. If this is the fruit of that effort, we approve wholeheartedly.

More likely this could be a live-action trailer for the next game. Either way, we approve.

I like the realistic take without the "magic elements". If this is a new movie (and it looks like it is according to IMDB) then I'd like to see how they explain Sub-Zero's freezing ability. The quick flash of him looked like some kind of mechanical apparatus but it was a very quick flash.

He might be a serial killer that freezes his victims with nitroglycerin or something. You noticed Scorpion seems to have some kind of arrow or something that is hooking his victims instead of that hand and GET OVER HERE move of his.

This is going to be great! I love how they decided to make Baraka, he looks bad ass, actually.

I was reading that this possibly isn't a new movie at all but rather a teaser for the new Mortal Kombat video game. People are saying that it will be revealed at E3.
