Metal Evolution on Vh1

^^

Definitely. The All Shall Fall video appeared several times when I was surfing YouTube until I finally decided to give it a chance. At first I was dismissive, but as mentioned once I listened for a few seconds (!) I was hooked. I don't really pay much attention to genres ... IMO the look is secondary to the sound by a vast margin.

The riffs grabbed me almost immediately. I love the progressions. If these guys come to my town, I'll be there.

The thing about Black Metal is that you can't take it way too seriously, because then you're a rube. Just let the costumes and imagery play into the sound of the music and compliment the vibe. The trick is to pretend it's real, but when your done listening, you still know it was some kind of musical role-playing. Otherwise you end up in (comfy) Norwegian prison for 12 years coming to terms with what an idiot you were. Black Metal has alot to offer, but the face paint/spiked everything tends to put alot of people off before they really give it a chance.

On a fun note, I like to put on black metal paint (corpsepaint, as its called) for halloween instead of some cheesy costume. I've done King Diamond a couple times even Abbath (good thing I've got long hair).

i love the invisible grapefruit. i try to photobomb it into peoples pics all the time

^^ lol.

... check out the comments under their videos on YouTube. Every second one has a reference to Skyrim. One of the best is The drummer's necklace reduces time between shouts by 20%.

Sounds like the Amulet of Talos...

Shifty, have you ever tried any kind of Stoner Metal? Obviously don't have to be stoned to fully enjoy it, but the riffs are usually killer. Not the kind of stuff that's going to blow you away with speed, technical-wizardry or *********... More like the kind of heavy, slow (but still awesome) riffs that will gradually carve out a hole in the back of your skull and drain your cranial fluids until you lose any sense of time, the world around you, or you own existence. Of course, being stoned doesn't hurt :D ... Check out bands like *****, Mountain Witch, Pale Divine, Kalas, YOB, The Hidden Hand, The Obsessed, Elder and Electric Wizard and see what you think. It's a genre I've been exploring alot recently, and literally every band I come across is pretty great if not totally awesome.

This is a pretty awesome starter-tune:

Just finished up the series and it was great. It's great to see metal get such an extensive look and that much TV time. That Metal Show is cool too.

Check the VH1 link in my OP.

There has already been an episode on Black/Death Metal.

You can watch the episode on there if I'm not mistaken?

Nope. While, they mentioned black and death in thrash metal episode, there ain't been one. Prob cause VH1 classic doesn't think it would get enough viewers, kind of like the way they told the guys from that metal show, that bands like that can't be on the show. Lame.

That's pretty cool. Sounds like Black Sabbath.

Dino Velvet posted this video last August:

These guys are great. I bought the album right away.

I miss this thread... Anyone heard any new stuff worthy of note? I'm currently getting contact high off of the new Elder release.
