I was at Georgio's in Malbu one night for dinner and saw the GREATEST celebrity snub of all time. It was a Saturday night, slam packed. Mel Gibson and Pierce Brosnan were there and as we sat at the bar waiting for our table, Barbara Striessand walked in with 4 or 5 people. Her assistant went up and asked for a table using the name, and was told it would be 45 minutes. She went back to Babs, told her and you could see the conversation without hearing it, and then returned to the maitre d' once again saying who the table was for....again, she was told to wait. We could hear her conversation with the maitre d' just not the one with Babs. So then, Barbara herself walks over and asks again for the table, again told there was nothing that could be done and she would need to wait. She said and I quote, "Do you realize who I am?" and he said and again, I quote "Why I believe you are James Brolin's wife" and excused himself to seat someone else.

She waited. it was beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!

and yes the watermelon shrimp cocktail was soooo good and refreshing and yes very simple to make! :)

excellent

Here we go back to the cooking of pasta and it's taste. Making the cold salad needs a cold pasta that has not absorbed the seasonings or flavors. Hot pasta dishes are made to absorb the extras thus cutting down on the pasta's true inherent texture and and flavor. I think the pasta should stand on it's own and the what is brung into it do the same. Is anyboby with me on this?

What I was getting at was when making the hot dishes, the pasta is just strained and many times dumped into the sauce without being rinsed. The sauce gets absorbed into the pasta thus not allowing the pasta to show it's own. I always give a cold rinse to my pasta and not let the starches suck the sauce in. I like the sauce to be it's own and separate. Add as much or little onto your plate as you like. Mix it as you will.

if you watch me do pasta dishes I always run the pasta under cold water after I strain it. it not only rinses it but also stops the cooking process :)

my grandma always said to strain, rinse and return to the original pot and then add sauce and mix. I do that sometimes but other times I don't depending on the sauce I make.

wow this thread died lol

Don't lump me into this crowd. I love the videos and pictures sent in. I promise that once I get enough motivation and tech savoy to post my kitchen creations they will be here.

Nearly 1500 posts on this board. People, take a picture of your plate. We won't judge you. Tell us what is in there. You are ashamed of what it looks like? Find something green to sprinkle on it. That's what they do in your local restaurant.
