The 10th place point instead goes to Sergio Perez. Michael Schumacher has been given a 10 place grid penalty for Suzuka after his crash with Jean-Eric Vergne. No action was taken for the incident between Jenson Button and Sebastian Vettel, where Button nearly crashed into the Red Bull at the end of the first safety car period.

Racing is life... anything else is just waiting.
McLaren denies it, but when Hamilton brushed the wall on his last qualifying run, I instantly worried that he'd damaged the gearbox. The contact didn't look that severe, but those components are fragile when it comes to side-to-side trauma. That result fairly well ruined my weekend. I just hope that he doesn't take it too hard and do something stupid, like think about going to Mercedes. McLaren can win him another WDC - not this year, but if they'll all play smart and produce another great car, maybe next season. Mercedes might not even be in the sport in 2-3 years.

Singapore....I love it

Schumacher retiring from F1

Michael Schumacher has announced his retirement from Formula One for the second time and at the age of 43 after failing to rekindle his old Ferrari magic in a disappointing comeback with Mercedes.
The team had already announced last week that the seven-times world champion, winner of a record 91 races in a career that started in 1991, would be replaced by McLaren's Lewis Hamilton for the start of the 2013 campaign.

Vettel wins in Japan as Alonso crashes out

Sebastian Vettel demolished Fernando Alonso's Formula 1 world championship lead by dominating the Japanese Grand Prix as the points leader retired in a first-lap crash.
The reigning champion is now just four points behind with five races to go, and has momentum on his side after back to back victories.

Felipe Massa came through from 10th on the grid to second for his first podium finish in nearly two years.

But for the home crowd everything was insignificant compared to Kamui Kobayashi fending off Jenson Button for his maiden F1 podium in third place, as he equalled the best ever finish for a Japanese driver.

Vettel's third Suzuka victory in four starts at the venue came easily as several likely challengers were eliminated in a chaotic first lap.

Racing is life... anything else is just waiting.
Fairly boring race except for Alonso's crash, IMO. But I was really happy to see Kobayashi get that podium. I honestly cannot understand why Sauber is rumored to be thinking of replacing him. He's not doing quite what he did last year. But he remains a solid, fast racer. And with their sponsorship apparently in better shape than in previous years, Sauber has no real reason to have to bring in a ride-buyer... I wouldn't think. :dunno: But I like the guy and really hope that if Sauber doesn't take him that another good team will recognize his talent.

Also, what do people think of Red Bull getting their reworked DRS system nailed down so well, while Lotus has been playing with theirs for what seems like forever and they still haven't managed to get it into a race?
