Feds Shutdown Top File-Sharing Site, Megaupload Today

Well I guess Freeones and all the porn sites on the internet should just close down, maybe all the internic names servers should be shut down and we go back to print only, and just stop the electronic age.
Without the electronic age, you wouldn't get a dollar from the porn you do.

You just use the "good side" of the internet but when the "bad side" show up, you say this can't be.
Life ain't rainbows ans sunshine everyday, you gotta learn to deal with alla its shit as well.

Anyway, Napster died, piracy was still there.
Peer-to-peer is almost dead, piracy is still there.
Now they killed megaupload but, guess what, piracy is still there. And will remain there.
Piracy is an like Hydra : cut one of its head and then two more will appear...

Money offered for copyrighted materials? That's just the mainstream media propaganda version.
The reality was that they, at a point in time, gave rewards points for files that were popular in traffic. The file size had to be under 100MB and copyrighted material was prohibited. The points could be redeemed for cash back or you could use it for a month or more of their high speed version of the site. Megaupload actually went after files that were copyrighted so as to stay compliance with DMCA, something the media seems to not want to report on.

daitro

I must possess all, or I possess nothing.
So True, now if that can only make an UN-copyable? File that could be placed on a website, and viewed or streamed only. That guy will make billions!!!! If only hackers would put there knowledge to good, lol.

They did. It's called DRM and it failed miserably.

It's not even just that. There is just no such thing as an UN-copyable file, and there probably won't be for a long time. There has been no DRM involving video or pictures that hasn't been broken or bypassed that I know about, and usually it's done very quickly. If it hasn't been circumvented it is for one reason and one reason only. It wasn't popular enough to have the right people with the right know how to put effort into trying to do it. Once only one person breaks it and shares it it's broken for everybody after that. I would go as far as to say as long as somebody sends data that ends up as video or pictures and it ends up going into the eyeballs of people in some way there will always be a way to break any protection on it and copy it. Short of forcing actual specialized DRM hardware in every computer in the world (and even that could probably be get around) there isn't much that can be done about it other than going after some big time uploader ever once in a while.

That's the reality of the situation despite how much some people don't like it.

There seems to be alot of people in this thread trying to justify breaking the law.

If anything I've posted came across that way that wasn't my intention. Just to clarify, I don't think it's ok to steal content from anyone. My argument was more against the current bills being debated in congress. There are enough laws already on the books to combat online crime.

I'm not sure what my opinion is on this.

I don't like the idea of piracy (although I guess I admit I've napstered back in the day).

I also don't like the controls on the internet.

Still mulling.

That does not make it right, nor does it mean that the fight against piracy should stop.

:goodpost:

There seems to be alot of people in this thread trying to justify breaking the law. If you are distributing content or material and you do not have permission from the owner of that content or material then you are breaking the law, it's as simple as that.
And before you all jump on me and say that Megaupload & sites like them can't be held responsible for what is uploaded to their servers, I say that's aload of BULLSHIT!!! They are their servers so that should fucking well get off their asses & filter it!!

They were aware that they were holding STOLEN (and yes it is stolen) copyrighted material on their servers and allowing it's distribution, and earning money off it's distribution but did nothing to stop it. And as Andy (Caring259) said earlier in the thread, they just ignored DMCA notices that were sent to them, I know because they done it to me!!!!

It's time these sort of companies took more responsibility for the data they hold and stop turning a blind eye to it. It's actually a part of SOPA that I agree with, that they would be responsible & could face closure if they didn't monitor it & act on it.

And for the people that think this law breaking is perfectly fine & should be allowed to go on, the next time you get mugged & someone steals your wallet & you lose out on whatever cash you had in there, think of me and models like me, caus this is how we feel every day that these bastards are allowed to get away with what they're doing.

:goodpost: I couldn't agree more with all of this!

No they didn't. As Briana stated above, they just used to ignore DMCA notices & keep earning off the content.

I know of forums that are all about the sharing and posting of stolen copyrighted content that only exist because they are paid for by the reward programs from these file sharing websites. Doesn't that mean they are, all be it indirectly, supporting & bankrolling these illegal sites?!

For people interested in the guy behind this shady biz, read the Wiki, it is pretty well done

Kim Schmitz started out early hacking and trying to make a good dollar out of it, he just proceeded to take it to larger scales

I wonder when his life story will be made a movie. If only he weren't THAT chubby

You don't know the history of the porn industry or the BBW fetish/niche. There have alwasy been BBW mags, movies and babes, going back for at least 50 years I know of. The UK and middle east was an still is some my best customers, followed by the US market. I had fans when I was only on print / DVD, before I went on the internet 6+ years ago.

Edit: nevermind

People will find a way around this bullshit law. It will become even easier to get this material in the future, for free. This is just one small roadblock on the way to freedom.

I guess it´s gonna be really hard for people who use these file sharing sites for legal activities to find a way to share their files now. I have used them to upload psd files for Photoshop tutorials, and also graphics of large file-size, like screensavers.

Exactly, it's the same for me. But the bastards that use them to distribute the illegal content are spoiling for everyone else.

And the good news of the day, multiple file lockers (like megaupload) closed their share functions and payout structures. Some even stopped serving to US visitors :)

Right now the internet distribution chain has been hijacked by nefarious forces.
so it's good news that that they're going after these guys, glad they're protecting the freedoms of the actual producers of the content.
The internet, like society, becomes more free for all when fair laws are enforced. When criminals are allowed free reign average people lose the rights.
