Coronavirus

In 2016, I voted Libertarian for the first time, ever - because I couldn't stomach Donald or Hillary. A guy at work voted for Trump. When asked why - he responded HIS concern was that the next President would nominate 1+ Supreme Court Judges. He wanted a Conservative Supreme Court.

FWIW - over the summer, I read at least a couple of articles concerned that others will vote SOLELY on THAT issue, in 2020..

And...this is on us as a country. Not only were we never glorious or had any real American Exceptionalism, but when we were put to the test and had the sheets over our face ripped off this turned out the be the real us in so many ways. We were found wanting. If in the future we and others look back and shame us over this we will have deserved it as a people.

I voted Libertarian for the same reason in 2016 (2008 and 2012 as well). The SCOTUS argument is valid and Trump plays to it very well. For me personally, after watching the Executive branch continue to reach new lows, the SCOTUS argument has gotten less persuasive. Other opinions vary.

Speaking of the Executive branch reaching new lows: https://thehill.com/homenews/admini...ctor-on-vaccine-timing-says-he-made-a-mistake

How long before we get a new CDC director?

I literally laughed out loud at this quote:
“It’s [wearing masks] not more effective by any means than a vaccine and I called him [CDC director Redfield] about that, those were the two things [masks and no vaccines until mid-2021] I discussed with him .. I believe if you asked him he would probably say that he didn't understand the question.”

Trump administration officials interfered with CDC reports on COVID and accused Director Robert Redfield of trying to 'hurt the president' if the agency did not match his 'optimistic messages'

Trump appointed Michael Caputo as spokesperson for DHS back in April
Michael Caputo is a political strategist, he is one of many unqualified corrupt cronies appointed to government agencies by ahole Trump , so that they can corrupt the agencies from within and spread disinformation to help Trump get reelected.

Top Trump health appointee taking medical leave after insurrection remarks
Michael Caputo will be gone for 60 days while his top aide, Paul Alexander, will leave HHS permanently, the agency said

Paul Van Noy: “It is true that COVID-19 cases are in escalation here in our community and that the virus is real ... However, the panic to ‘stop the world’ or mandate public compliance … is causing untold problems and pushback that will not be helpful.”
https://www.idahostatesman.com/news/coronavirus/article245806315.html

Paul Van Noy, the senior pastor at Candlelight Christian Fellowship in Coeur d’Alene, has spent the past two weeks in the Kootenai Health intensive care unit while his wife, Brenda Van Noy, recovered from her own bout with COVID-19 at home.

The panic causes 'problems', but what is a two-week stint in the ICU called?

Ahole Trump is forcing everyone in the government to spread disinformation to downplay the severity of the pandemic, so he can get reelected.
If he gets reelected he won't give a fuck anymore about anything to do with the pandemic. His focus will go back to stealing government money, and to try and amend the constitution so he can be a corrupt president for more than two terms.

With RBG, this is very much a reality again. In fact & ironically, twump delaying the appointment of her replacement may actually help him as it gives conservative voters a reason to vote for him.

It's frustrating when people can't differentiate between voting for a candidate and a political ideology. Just because someone voted for twump doesn't mean they actually like him.

#3 killer in the US: https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/u-s-covid-19-death-toll-surpasses-200-000-n1240034

Indeed, the country still faces many challenges in overcoming the pandemic, including agreeing on even the most basic facts. Americans are still fighting over whether to wear masks, whether the virus is serious and to what extent it's safe to reopen certain businesses and to resume certain activities.

Do we have enough 'freedom' to hit 400k?
I don't question the seriosness of the virus but it's reach I know of two people that I connect to through 1) a friend and 2) a other friend. Both have relatives that are in-laws, old, and fighting some health thing for a while now. Died of covid. Two people across 9 months that I don't even know there names or what they look like just friends of friends kind of thing. 2. So the impact is the thing of course it can kill. But we turned off a whole country for almost a year now. I'm sure that it limited the spread but maybe having all of the nations news organizations eating at the same lunch table affects how they report the news? Maybe? I can only speak about my experience has any of you guys friends and family been ravaged by covid were they old and suffering from something already just curious look at my poll

Interesting US economy article:

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/feat...w-of-pandemic-damage?utm_source=pocket-newtab

A tidbit:
Chetty’s working theory is that Sun Belt states’ economic resilience might be a sign that they’re not taking the disease seriously enough to get it under control. Trying to keep the economy humming while the virus runs rampant is a “short-term-ist perspective” with long-term costs, he says.

A scenario in which Covid is never corralled the way it has been in some countries in Europe and Asia haunts Chetty. “It’s not going to be a sustained recovery. There’s just no way,” he says. “We’re going to be stuck trying to go along and accept a fair number of Covid infections and deaths and muddle our way through until finally there’s a vaccine.”

Recent positive COVID tests:
Republicans can get the coronavirus it seems. I thought they were immune or denied its existence. 🤷‍♂️

Most of them wouldn't be sick if they had worn a 5 cent mask every day. 😷
