Don't need an anti-virus. I'm just careful on what and where I download.
If you mean the strict definitely of it, yes.
But most adware is tied into marketing non-sense, and some of that stuff gets sold. The real problem occurs when that data contained confidential information.
Cookies can often contain confidential information. If it's not secured well, then it can contain some rather exploiting information of a user.
I thought I'd post this here, since what better place to discuss Anti-Virus apps than a porn site. We all know how downloading porn seems to be the main source of virus problems, at least in my experience.
My question is, what does everyone here use? I was using AVG Free, but some sites seem to suggest the AVG software isn't as good at detecting Viruses. My previous AV software was Trend Micro, but their latest incarnation is major bloatware like Norton and McAfee.
Last night I DL'd NOD32 for a trial period of 30-days. It seems like a great package that's low on resources and gets good reviews at AV-Comparatives.org.
There are a lot of sites that do not. It's not just porn sites. There are ****-poor coders everywhere.Porn site are really the only major culprits of that anymore. Most major sites that deal with sensitive information encrypt their cookies server-side, but you're right, there are sites that don't.

For this reason I use a dedicated browser session running as a locked down user when I have to handle transactions and other commerce on-line. Heck, I do this for porn browsing too, a dedicated user with limited access and his own browser session.
That's why I use Noscript, to whitelist such sites. Most well-funded sites are not coding like crap, and not loading up with adware that is not.Surely there's nothing wrong with being as safe as possible, but I literally can't think of a mainstream website I regularly visit that doesn't.

We use Debian (that's a Linux distribution). My ******* who's a system administrator introduced me to it some years ago and I love it. No need for anti virus programs or a firewall. It took my wife some getting used to but she now loves it as well![]()
Been "using" Avira Antivir Personal for about a year now. I say "using" because it hasn't actually done anything for me except d/l updates 50 times a day and constantly nag me with about it's definitions being out of date. It has failed to detect malware other programs have caught and seems to be chewing through CPU from time to time.
All that said, I'm uninstalling it. Any suggestions beyond the usual suspects (AVG, Malwarebytes, etc.) to replace this with?
Is Debian free? I'd like to take it for a test drive to see what you're talking about![]()
