Alaska Governor Palin to resign

I must admit, I, like most of us, to this day don't know a great deal about this woman other than she has been the recipient of slimy - rancorous & vitriolic hate campaigns that have been attacking her person since the day the news hit that she would be John McCain's running mate for '08.

Not that I would even agree with the absurd notion that she's been treated any harsher. In fact, I would argue she's gotten off pretty light under the circumstances. But EVEN IF TRUE, welcome to American politics Sarah! In case you haven't been following contemporary American politics in the publications you "read", this is just "how we roll" down here in "lower 48". Down here we get to insinuate our political opponents hate America, endanger our troops and pal around with terrorists all in one breath.

I ran across this short article; it hits all the salient points.

Why They Hate Her
(the Angelina Jolie of Politics)

"She is the embodiment of the anti-choice, the opposite of every choice that lefty elites have ever made — as to going back home instead of moving to the west coast, having children, having a child with Down's, staying married to one man the whole time, choosing rural or suburban over urban and living a generally conservative lifestyle, working with her hands . . . That everything she is is the antithesis of everything that liberal urban elites are, so it's not just enough to say, 'I disagree with you,'; she has to be repudiated and crushed."

Ahem, right down to the latch-key parenting, drop-out son, prego, unwed teenage daughter, "baby daddy" and his drug running momma?:dunno: Nice, sounds like she can relate more to big city life than she thinks.

Mrs. Craig, Ensign, Gingrich, Sanford, Vitter, etc. were married to one man too..:1orglaugh

Palin has 2 things in common with Angelina Jolie, she's purdy and they both rely on the scripts of someone else's thoughts to sound believable. At least Jolie has talent beyond her looks.:2 cents:

All of this trepidation and trembling you and others seem think exists in Demos over Palin is actually disbelief and hysterical laughter.

The only things the name Palin strikes fear in are Alaskan moose and Iditarod opponents.

In the interests of equal time, why not cite those within the Republican party who have in many cases been the source of much of this alleged hatred and shrill vitriol???

If you think it's been tough on "Wasilla Sarah" so far, just wait until the GOPers start tearing into her flesh in the primaries...Oh, but she quit her governorship without actually doing anything. Better to quit now when you face tough political decisions than run on them later...

I have often wondered why the shrill Palin attacks keep coming, here on FOs and out there in LettermanLand.
This article pretty much addresses the key issues the Dems and Libs seem to have with her...any fool without an agenda knows she is smart, good people, and nothing in the way of an evil buffoon (oops...did I just describe Joe Biden?); Palin gave good reasons why she is stepping down, and the truism is still true...we get the Government we deserve.

We've actually gotten the gov't we've deserved the last 8 years. This article, not surprising, misses the point about the anti-Palin/anti-Republican spirit *flowing* throughout the nation right now. And, it's not wise for a party who purports to take itself seriously to wrap itself in Hollywood metaphors like this article does:dunno:

Sarah Palin is a complete moron, and it is an insult to all Americans that the GOP *thought* she could be Veep material. There are several other qualified, Conservative, Pro-Business women who would've made better candidates--but I guess they weren't as attractive as the Wasilla MILF.

I have no doubt that stupid Sarah is embroiled in another scandal, and quit before the *shit* hit the fan, politically.

So, what kind of scandal could've brought about her resignation?

--Is Bristol preggers again?

--Did the First Dude, dumbass Todd, have an affair with someone while Gov Sarah was away hobknobbing with the GOP Elites?

--Does Levi, the clown, have some info about Sarah *greenlighting* his illegal job application?

--Or, does someone have the "birth" info about Trig which makes him Bristol's son, not Palin's? That was the big *rumor* and maybe it's finally going to come out now?

It's not just democrats. There are a good chunk of republicans in their own party that don't like Palin, or at least they don't think she would be a good choice to have a significant role in the party. They just don't say it openly.

Racing is life... anything else is just waiting.
While I am not that familiar with the proposal to take off term limit on President I would bet that like when it was enacted it would not apply to the current president. In other words just like when it was talked about during Reagan it would not allow Obama to run for more then two terms, just future presidents.

I really don't have a strong opinion on whether or not it should be changed.I just wanted to point out that I'm sure it would not allow Obama to run for 3rd term. Some in both parties have talked about it but it would never be allowed to be used in such a partisan way for the sitting president. It was republicans who wanted it after FDR,then thought maybe during Reagan we should change it even if they would not be able to give Reagan more then two terms.8 years may be not be long enough in some cases maybe 12 would be better, but unlimited may not be good idea eithier.

The repeal of the 22nd Amendment has been brought up several times over the years. The last time, I believe was in 2006... when George W. Bush was still POTUS. ;) Even if repealed, the question of whether or not this would affect Obama is debatable. But most constitutional scholars that I've read claim that it would not apply to Obama... only the Presidents who take office once he leaves. And even if it did, it would still require him to win reelection. Of course, there are certain fringe elements of the GOP (Club for Growth types) who make it sound as if this is Obama's first Caesar-like move to make himself an Emperor of Rome: dictator for life.

I tend to give more weight to the (rational and learned) opinions of people such as Larry Sabato, rather than Rush Limbaugh and those of his ilk. Basically, this is just much ado about nothing.

Might be a story worthy of purchase if Obama had anything to do with the proposition in 2006. Jose Serrano authored the bill with no other co-sponsors.

Aside from that, there have been several other challenges and opines that it ought to be repealed....before Obama was even born. But lest we allow the facts to get in the way of a good lie again.

Basically, this is just much ado about nothing.
:hatsoff:

Hugh suggested it tied to the contrast between her lifestyle and her critics: "She is the embodiment of the anti-choice, the opposite of every choice that lefty elites have ever made — as to going back home instead of moving to the west coast, having children, having a child with Down's, staying married to one man the whole time, choosing rural or suburban over urban and living a generally conservative lifestyle, working with her hands . . . Liberals believe that their ideas, philosophy, worldview, and policies liberate believers, and that the conservative equivalents limit people. Liberals see themselves as rejecting outdated beliefs and obsolete ideas, overturning established orders, and discarding traditions established by superstitious and ignorant forebears who weren't as enlightened as we are. Conservatives, in their minds, are runaway cultural superegos, always wagging their fingers about individual responsibility, dismissing excuses, reminding people that they can't always do what they want because of the consequences to themselves and to others.

Conservatism, they suspect, will leave you in a marriage that doesn't satisfy you, burden you with children you don't want, repress your passions, and trap you in a empty, boring, and unfulfilled life, with no hand of government able to help.

Today almost everyone faces some sort of challenge in balancing work and family; I don't know too many people who believe there are sufficient hours in a day. And then along comes this woman who's made all of these "conservative" choices and now has an amazing career, a supportive husband, a beautiful family, and great health and appearance, and she bears it all, including the inevitable hard times, with pluck and a smile, as far as we can tell. (For all we know, perhaps behind closed doors, Sarah Palin screams into a pillow when it all gets to be too much. But what we know about her suggests she relieves her stress by shooting moose.)

Since when is having children, with or without downs, a left or right wing exercise? And for the record, it is the blue states that have the lowest divorce rates. Absolute twaddle.

On the second point, she doesn't bear it all - she quits. She puts her own personal interests in front of those of the people she took an oath to serve.

Nice, Philbert. You always bitch and moan how I have nothing real to say myself, but just post articles. You do the same damn thing, but then don't even post a link to the article. Where did you find it, on some Freeper messageboard?

I don't care what people say, this is one intelligent Lady...Plan A, Plan B, Plan C - an open book :)

Actually, I don't pay that much attention to you to always have anything to say about you, except when I feel the need to comment...and you do use other people's work and thoughts a vast majority of the time to make various lame points.
I used an article one time to make a point...I don't give a shit who wrote it or where it was published, it said what I wanted to say. What's the big fuckin' deal, you lost without some crap to post?
I read it on Yahoo news when I enter for my email, a link included in a story...WTF does it matter, it said nothing like "at 3:45 am Thursday Sarah Palin gave 3 Secret Service agents a blow job behind the White House."...nothing stated that needs corroboration.
I stated it was written by someone else, all that needed to be said. I know honesty is an alien concept to you, but there it is.

You got that from Yahoo? I assumed Faux News. That doesn't sound like a Yahoo News article, actually. Perhaps Yahoo linked it from some other place? I read a lot of Yahoo stuff that originates on Politico.

If you don't give proper credit for a source, than it looks like you're trying to hide something. :dunno:

If it was, it was some op-ed piece (opinions are like assholes type thing) and not a news article.

Whatever it was it amount to be little more than an ass kiss piece for Palin to make her "fans" feel better about themselves.

Unfortunately, most of us do NOT live in Alaska.

After the defeat in November, 2008, Palin returned to Fairbanks, Alaska and faced so many Legislative investigation regarded to her ethics involving Travelgate, abuse of power, firing the State Troopers. Although all of those charges are dismissed, Palin was not able to function well in her Governor's office and along with Letterman and her ex-son-in-law problems, I do know Palin wants "TIME" off to think about what's next.

Whether Sarah Palin wants to re-emerge as a "better" politican to run for the Alaska Senator later on, time can only tell.

So I would not speculate much. (but don't write her off yet !)

lol, allow me to interrupt.

It's actually from our ole friends at NRO (National Review Online)

A similar piece can be found here BTW.

When you really examine them carefully though, Palin nor the authors come off that well.

My take on her resignation is simple. There are tough decisions to be made that most Govs. are having to deal with and she either doesn't want to make them or doesn't want to run on them after having made them.

When the going got tough, Palin sought a "higher calling".

She left Alaskans high and dry and abdicated the job she was elected to do when they needed leadership the most..at least that's my spin.:thefinger

If she cant handle what she herself creates being governor, how can she ever handle being a President? Come on, running Alaska is a cake walk compared to being in the White House....

Whatever other things she has said, they pale in comparison to this.

I wouldn't be too surprised if she simply lands up being a stay at home mother.
