Alaska Governor Palin to resign

Facetious

It's too bad that an individual (any individual) would have to resign a post after facing a stream of unsubstantiated charges resulting in more than a half a million dollars in attorney fees all because of political bigotry.

Well, don't allow your hubby to use your office to exact retribution on a personal foe. Testify truthfully and don't line up and army of attorneys (which you apparently can't afford) to file endless motions.:dunno:

If she can't stand this itty bitty heat in the Alaska icebox with an army of apologists blaming everyone else for her buffoonery, she ain't ready for prime time....if anytime. :2 cents::thumbsup:

Palin resigns, blasts press, 'starlets'

I guess she resigned her two jobs as part-time Gov. and part-time imbecile in favor of being a full-time professional victim. GOPers: When all else fails blame the media and partisan operatives.:1orglaugh

I hope this brings to a close a facade political career apparently based solely on looks and a script of talking points. I fear however, fortunately for Demos and unfortunately for the rest of America GOPers are not ready to close the book on this light-headed lightweight.

But hey, :bowdown:America is truly the land of opportunity when a person with the skills of a Teacher's Aid can ascend to the level of a Governor.

For your reading displeasure....

AIRBANKS, Alaska — Gov. Sarah Palin resigned here Sunday with a blast at the media that reflected the frustrations that led her to leave office a year-and-a-half before her term expired. But speaking in a style that her fans see as plain talk and her detractors consider disjointed, she offered almost nothing about what she was planning to do next.

Plainly feeling liberated, Palin said that the freedom of the press was an important American right and one that members of the military died to protect.
“So, how about, in honor of the American soldier, quit making things up,” she said with an insistent voice, prompting loud applause and cheers from a mostly sympathetic audience gathered at a park here.

Palin didn’t specify what she was accusing reporters of making up, but suggested that she was weary of the attention on her family since being tapped as the Republican vice presidential nominee last summer.
“Our new governor has a very nice family, too, so leave his kids alone,” she demanded.

Immediately after Palin’s speech that man, Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell, a Republican and Palin ally, was sworn in as the state’s governor.
As she stepped down from the stage, Palin’s future remained a mystery.
Concluding her remarks, she only said: “Let’s all enjoy the ride.”
Others speaking before and after her were equally cryptic, referring only vaguely to her future endeavors.

In an interview Saturday, Todd Palin, Sarah’s husband, said only that they would “play it by ear.” On Sunday, her father, Chuck Heath, said in an interview he thought his daughter would stay in the public arena but had no other insights into her plans.

It was widely thought that Palin would appear at the Reagan Presidential Library next month in California for a Republican women event, but Heath and Palin spokeswoman Meg Stapleton said Sunday that her appearance there was not confirmed.

Speaking for just under 20 minutes on sunny afternoon in between a 1930s-era steamship and a carousel on a street dubbed Klondike Avenue,” Palin was surrounded by a crowd of a few thousand, among them some of her most ardent supporters and a smaller group of vocal detractors.
For the first group, she offered some rabble-rousing lines and partisan red meat.

She went after reporters but also what she called the Hollywood “starlets” who rail against gun rights and the “partisan operatives” who filed the ethics complaints that helped drive her from office.

Many years ago I read "the Good Companions" by JB Priestley. In it, an Oxford graduate was described in his patronizing manner as characterizing a collegue as having all the abilities of "a highly intelligent fox terrier." I could never shake off this phrase whenever Palin stepped up to a microphone.

Woof Woof.

I found this poll from Fox. What planet would you have to be living on to view the ex governor as an academic?

She worrys me lol.You would think her political career is over now but I remember how after losing the 1960 election for president then a bid to be senator in 1964 Richard Nixon proclaimed he was out of politics for good and you wouldn't have "Nixon to kick around anymore".For those too young to remember Nixon was elected president in 1968.

But as bad as Nixon was in ways she is no Nixon. He could have been a college professor .:)

I remember reading an article from her pre-politician days, when she was interviewed having driven miles to wait in line to meet Irvana Trump. She went because she was a fan of the glamour. I thnk the money and the fame (sans press intrusion and the need to sit down and bone up on Pol Sci 101) will direct her choices. She needs to make hay while her star still burns bright and there is a democrat in power. The money she will command for the next few years will be mind boggling.

She is certainly not one who lacks for ambition but I don't think she has the stomach for the fight. A run for the presidency is a very long haul, this coupled with the flaws that have already been highlighted (and I still think there are scores to be settled from the McCain camp) will make the gravy train offered by a life of punditry seen all the more attractive.

One thing I am in no doubt about is that her pull with a sizeable portion of the base will mean that her endorsement will carry a lot of weight in the primaries.

"I'm taking my fight for what's right in a new direction," she said, as her family looked on.

Yeah take your fight to prevent teen pregnancies.:condom:

Palin resignation costs Alaska at least $40,000

Goof ball Palin's resignation costs Alaska at least $40K....at the same time she's turning down stimulus money....

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Early estimates put the cost of Sarah Palin's midterm resignation as Alaska governor at a minimum of $40,000, not including a special legislative session partly linked to her departure.

The preliminary figures obtained by The Associated Press through a public records request show it cost the state almost $14,100 for the July 26 swearing-in ceremony of new Gov. Sean Parnell.

The price tag for moving Palin — the former GOP vice presidential candidate — and her family from the governor's mansion in Juneau amounted to roughly $3,328.

Palin's spokeswoman, Meghan Stapleton, says suggesting the resignation cost the state is "incredibly misleading." She says the resignation ceremony was added to a previously scheduled governor's picnic and was organized by the lieutenant governor's office.

The tally doesn't include the estimated $100,000 it cost for a one-day special session last month in which lawmakers approved Palin's pick to replace Parnell as lieutenant governor and overrode her veto of federal stimulus funds intended for energy efficiency projects.

McCain was very gracious in his praise for Palin. I'm not sure if she will return the gesture. Perhaps this is just a reflection of the fact that he really has no other role other than elder statesman. Listening to him I thought he sounded old. Too old to be a president for sure.
