*2024 US Presidential Elections* - Candidates, Statistics, Campaign Timelines, Debates

There will tons of sound bites from this, but one that caught my attention was trmup's point on abortions:

“They will take the life of a child in the eighth month, the ninth month, and even after birth — after birth — if you look at the former governor of Virginia, he was willing to do this”

I only saw a small bit but this is what it was. When Donald began going on about Hatians eating pets and Harris had to hold the lecturn to keep from falling down laughing.
It's the job interview for the most powerful position in the world, and they're arguing over immigrants eating pets.

She did a great job of trolling him, and he bit it, hook, line and sinker.

But it came at the expense of her not selling herself. I don't think I really got how she her policies were different from sleepy joe,
or even what her own policies were.

The Biden Administration policies work. We've had periods of inflation in 2021 to the present. But that is to be expected after a worldwide crisis. Historically it happened after World War I, and of course, during the Depression as well. And surely the Pandemic from Covid-19 was another cause. If you think the Trump policies work, think again. In 2019-2020, Trump's Administration had unemployment at a record 19.2% (that's close to one in every five Americans being out of work). Keeping the Southern border safe? Ha. What a joke that was. It became a multi-million dollar grift job for Steve Bannon and his two cronies. How much did they steal? Close to $18.4 million. He was convicted because of it. Bannon got a Presidential pardon from Trump in the last hours of his Administration. Trump also botched up in his role of leading the nation through the Pandemic. He has the blood of thousands of dead Americans on his hands. The CDC now has that number at over 350 thousand dead Americans. Everyone in his MAGA alliance forgets that. A woman's right to choose? Abortion rights taken away during the U.S. Supreme's Court's landmark ruling of canceling out Roe vs. Wade. Over fifty years of precedence there. Rhetoric from him on turning back LGBT rights and on deporting millions of immigrants. Pardons for hundreds of January 6 insurrectionists who attacked the Capitol Building and who interfered in the honest and free election process leading to the death of Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick and the four others afterward. His attempt to bring in fake Electors, through a criminal scheme, to those who were more favorable to him in overturning the Presidential election results. Mike Pence, a staunch GOPer and his own Vice President, has endorsed Kamala Harris. Donald Trump continues to lie about almost everything. He is a con-artist, a grifter, a cheat, a schemer and he'll soon to be losing the Presidency once again. He'll bring up election fraud as an excuse again for losing in 2024. How many times will he cry wolf? It gets to be very repetitive and tiresome. As for me a life-long Republican, I'll be changing my vote just like I did in 2020 (my voting for Joe Biden) in keeping my state blue. Harris showed me what she's made of. And it's not being a mirror of Joe Biden. She clearly won the debate.

I've been lapping up these snippets from the junior high school antics of last night and have been shaking my head all morning. I didn't watch the debate straight away. I had a hunch it would end up like this. I mean, you can't debate the class clown over topics of real importance. I give Harris credit for at least approaching this in a way that yields some meat. But MAGAns are gonna look at Trump as either the conquering hero in a war of insults, or the battered and beleaguered victim of a leftist bully. The fucker can't lose with his base. That's the thing. Brain dead fucks with straw hats and pitchforks and Chevy pickup trucks are not going to change their minds in any case. So what does the left do in such a case? Well, they target the middle...the undecideds. And what are these undecideds going to do when she wins a debate...and for all intents and purposes, she did win...playing "dirty?" @tvstrip makes a good point. But it's not that she sacrificed discussing important issues in favor of pointing out what a fool Donald Duck is. It's more that she comes off as being somewhat of an intellectual bully and a sarcastic snob. Look...I'd rather have a sarcastic snob with Harris' drive and intelligence in the White House, than to have Agent Orange in there hashing out the next coup de etat. But I can't speak for the swaying center who might have a problem with a strong-willed woman invading their space.

And you see, that's another thing. Don Trump came off at the beginning as cool and collected, while Harris was visibly nervous...with the hand-talking and shaky voice. But as her offense geared up, Donald started to become the unglued one, and if you watch, he starts getting unhinged, and hand-talking, and being more Donaldesque. The dude gets stirred too easily. That's not a leader. It's a pissed off teenager. If Trump wanted to sound off about himself and use dubious claims to show what a great idea it would be to give him a second term, then fine. But if you recall, this is similar to how the debate with Hillary went. And Hillary was a helluva lot better at presenting herself than Harris was last night.

Does the Kansas City luxury box get a little testy now that Taylor endorsed Harris and Mahomes's wife is in Trump's camp? Let's focus on the important stuff here.

But it came at the expense of her not selling herself. I don't think I really got how she her policies were different from sleepy joe,

I thought she spelled them out clearly - at the start. There is an expanded tax credit for new families; tax credits for new start ups; and changes to the corporate tax structures. She was specific with those. Unlike Trump who - after 8 years - only has 'concepts of a plan' to replace the ACA/ObamaCare.

If her policies are not that much different than Biden's policies, then we will be fine.

Yeah, the "concepts" line had be cracking up too :ROFLMAO:.
I might start using that sarcastically - like if someone asks me what I plan to do, I'll say "I have concepts of a plan".

If her policies are not that much different than Biden's policies, then we will be fine.
Respectfully disagree. Yes, stuff like reproductive rights and LGBTQ+ issues they decimate the GOP. But others, like Healthcare, Gaza, Immigration and environmental issues are gaping holes. That's not to say that the GOP has better plans, but the current Dem status quo on these is not sufficient. And for stuff like immigration, it's even very similar to the tump admin's position.

But tump and his advisors were too incompetent to nail Harris on these. If tump could have focused for even a couple of seconds instead of getting sidetracked on some irrelevant issue, he could have actually out-debated her on several key subjects. Heck, he could have just said "You're just taking pages out of my immigration playbook" and she wouldn't have a response.

Maybe the creature will come out of his stomach? A shoutout to John Hurt and the original Alien (1979) film with the 2024 movie just out.

A second debate? Won't happen. There's no time, and neither side has anything to gain. In fact, it benefits Trump more NOT to go Round 2. Why? Because his base has a short memory for such things...in fact, the average American does. Any MAGAn that might have been swayed by his non-performance will likely forget why they swayed by voting time. Now is the season of manic campaigning. The home stretch. Trump needs to do what good egotists do: shrug it off and keep up his waterfall of border-based rhetoric and spurious legal claims. Push the immigration agenda like you're pushing Nancy Pelosi over a hill, Don. Keep selling the weak economic argument and gun control because it strengthens your hold on your constituents. Dumb it down, and you'll build it back up. This is America, dammit. The only thing we love more than firearms is not thinking too much. And Kamala...what can I say. Ride the wild tide before nightfall. You might just have enough momentum to slide just into the lobby of 1600 Pennsylvania.

Guaranteed. He will be doing that this weekend - or whenever his next rally occurs.

What you call a status quo is actually a 50/50 government. With the House and Senate evenly split, not much was going to get done under the best of circumstances. The Republicans can barely get anything out of the house. You mention immigration. Biden, the Dems, and Republicans agreed to a deal earlier this year. Who killed it? [Some old guy in Florida.] The 'gaping holes' are caused by actually have to deal with the reality of the situations. What is possible given the current circumstances? Biden has done that.

Economic growth is steady, unemployment is low, inflation is back under control, and interest rates will be declining here shortly (buy bonds now ;)). The indicators are all trending in the right direction. Trump’s favorite measure - the DJIA - is 12 days removed from its all-time high. As has been noted, some Americans have short memories and a nostalgia for the past. Trump's four years were certainly not a glorious peak we need to re-visit.

Only because one of the participants raised the issue and the moderator had the balls to fact-check him immediately on it. The other option was to ignore his lie which then just perpetuates it.

Per the official twitter acct of the German Foreign Office.

Like it or not: Germany’s energy system is fully operational, with more than 50% renewables. And we are shutting down – not building – coal & nuclear plants. Coal will be off the grid by 2038 at the latest.

PS: We also don’t eat cats and dogs.

Who says Germans don't have a sense of humour?

It seems to be a critical topic for some … it may seem trivial to us, but some take it seriously. Think back to the Comet Ping Pong and Pizzagate in 2016. Springfield OH is on its second day of receiving bomb threats.

A father wishes his son’s death would stop being used as a political prop for anti-immigration candidates. A Haitian immigrant caused a bus accident which killed their son. The dad wishes a 60-year old white guy caused the accident. In 2023, the US had ~41,000 motor vehicle deaths.
