And all this has to do with how the teams should be ranked? :dunno:

Look, I'm not going to beat this into the ground and if FSU loses a game I'll be the first one to say that they should drop in the rankings (personally, I think Alabama has the best overall team but what I think doesn't matter. It has to be proven on the field and, so far, it hasn't been). If personal bias is being taken into account (and, after all, it obviously is when you look at the polls versus what the commidiots have come up with), how can FSU be ranked ahead of Mississippi State? Their only loss is to the #1 team....maybe the Bulldogs should be ranked 2nd? How does Oregon's performance trump theirs? :quack: If being undefeated in a major conference is irrelevant, maybe FSU doesn't even deserve to be in the top 4? Baylor and TCU only have one loss each....maybe they are better than Florida State too? Hmmm....could be, you never know. I think maybe they are. Yeah, that's it. :surprise:

It's all sheer speculation....makes zero sense to me. What a fiasco this is. Makes the BCS look brilliant by comparison.

FSU - The griping going on about the Seminoles being undefeated, but ranked 3rd is really a moot point. The polls are based on human opinion and perception of how a team is playing and/or will play. Do they deserve a spot in the playoffs based on the teams they played, and how well they played during the course of the season. You can argue that it’s not fair, but that’s the world we are forced to live in. With this in mind, be prepared to get even more pissed off. Against a horrible Boston College team, FSU played like shit, at home, and only won on a field goal with 3 seconds left. And, with Miss State shellacking Vandy 51-0, there is a chance that come Tuesday, FSU could fall to 4th.

Next week, most of the dust will finally settle and the picture will start to clear up with these games to watch:

TCU vs Texas (Thursday night) - I’m surprised, but Texas has actually started playing some decent football, and TCU hasn’t been playing well lately, so this probably won’t be an easy TCU win that most have been expecting.

Ohio State vs Michigan – The winner here is a foregone conclusion. I only mention this because as things stand now, Ohio State needs some style points for a chance at a playoff bid, and the only way to get that is to pound Michigan into the dirt.

Miss State vs Ole Miss – Dan Mullen knows any slip-up and their playoff chances are gone. Look for them to pull out all the stops in this rivalry game.

FSU vs Florida – This could be the game of the day. FSU has been playing like crap and the Gator players want to give Muschamp a happy ending to his time at Florida.

Missouri vs Arkansas – This is the game that decides the SEC East. A Mizzou win and they get a return trip to Atlanta. A loss gives it to Georgia. And I can guarantee that both Miss State and Alabama are praying for a Mizzou win as right now, neither of them wants to play Georgia!

The Iron Bowl – Alabama has some injured players, and so does Auburn. For the past few weeks, Auburn’s defense has been playing like total shit. There has been absolutely NO DISCIPLINE as they have racked up far too many pass interference and unsportman-like conduct penalties. Alabama has a weak secondary, but Nick Marshall is nowhere near as good a passer as people think, so if Auburn comes in trying to establish the pass, they could end up in a train wreck. Personally, I’d be okay if Auburn loses if it means Ellis Johnson is let go and Will Muschamp is brought back as defensive coordinator.

I saw the AP poll finally got Baylor ahead of TCU, but it was by the slimmest of margins. Only 1 point separates them.

And in the ridiculous news, Kirk Herbstreit decided to use GameDay as his pulpit to bitch about SEC teams scheduling FCS teams in November.

Herbstreit:
“It’s the worst thing that goes on in college football. It’s pathetic.”

But Western Carolina coach, Mark Speir, had a great response to Herbstreit:
“This guy had a silver spoon in his mouth all his life. Ohio State, primadonna state quarterback talking about. He’s an embarrassment! He ain't ever coached."

Note to Speir, next time, just sum it up and call him a stupid jackass.

BC has a veteran offense unlike Florida and it was raining heavily during the our game with BC. Treon Harris will have to have a very good game of throwing the ball, if Florida has any chance of winning against FSU. I don't care if FSU is 4; the committee will not leave FSU out of the CFP.

As long as they win out, they'll be in the playoff, but I would like to see them fall to 4th - just to see how much of a rant Jagger goes on.
:D

IF florida beats FSU the only playoffs they will be in will cost a ticket. same way if auburn beats bama

If they do, it just further reinforces my opinion that the committee is out of its mind. FSU didn't play "like shit" and BC isn't "horrible". It's college football, man. It was a close conference game played under horrific conditions and FSU prevailed in the end because they proved to be the better team. If we're going back to the days of the '70s when margin of victory was a primary factor regarding where a team is ranked, this whole thing is in serious retrograde. I can't believe that someone as intelligent as you are is buying into this garbage to be honest. Let's all run up the scores so we get more brownie points? No thanks. A win is a win and so far FSU is undefeated. Maybe it won't always be so and if that happens, I'm sure there will be appropriate ramifications. However, to punish them for not consistently crushing their opponents is stupid. And to give others a free pass when they stumbled and lost is equally stupid.

You are correct that the whole thing is moot. That's the real shame of it all in the final analysis because the system is deeply flawed and apparently more subjective than ever. I guess it will always be that way and is one of the things that turns me off the most about Division 1 football.

I saw the AP poll finally got Baylor ahead of TCU, but it was by the slimmest of margins. Only 1 point separates them.

Wow. That's just a ridiculous statement....Speir's I mean. Yours too if you agree with him. So you have to coach to have a valid opinion? Yeah, what a great response. I think the scheduling of cupcake opponents simply to pad a record or get a virtual week off is most certainly "pathetic" as Herbsteit says. I wish all Division 1 schools would have to schedule other Division 1 schools for all out-of-conference games. It would sure make for a better barometer of who is good and who is overrated as a result. How can you not agree with that? :dunno:

i got a news flash for curb streetsign....8 straight dogfights with SEC teams deserves a cupcake game. some teams dont play anything but cupcakes all year

Many teams in the country schedule FCS schools, but I forgot to mention the ridiculous part of Herbstreit's rant against the SEC. Of the non-SEC schools that do this, most do it during September. Herbstreit said as much, and he saw no issue with that. His issue was with the SEC doing the same thing, in November.

And, smoknn's comment raises an excellent point. Playing an SEC schedule is not like playing an ACC schedule. You got 8 dogfights on your hands and your team needs one or two breaks. If you have an issue with that, just remember that those wins don't count towards bowl eligibility, so if you have a bad year with FBS teams, you're taking the chance of being at home watching others during bowl season.

Also, most FCS teams desperately want an FBS team to schedule them. Sometimes, that guaranteed payday is more than what they make during the rest of their season!

My point is, SEC teams already play the most difficult schedules because of the overall strength of the conference. This is what can strengthen a team, and it's also what can hurt a team, by beating up each other on a weekly basis. The only good thing about an SEC schedule is the fact that it's an 8 game schedule and not 9 games.

I don't approve of it either. Of course, I don't approve of the scheduling of FCS schools on FBS (God, I hate those acronyms! Division 1 and 1-AA were so much better!) schedules as a matter of principle so when the games are scheduled is of little consequence....although giving a virtual bye week this late in the year by contending in what amounts to little more than a glorified scrimmage against what is usually not much more than a JV team definitely goes against my grain. I realize that everyone does it so understand that I'm not picking on the SEC here.

That's a commonly-heard argument that actually isn't true, Connor. Sure, some of the SEC teams do indeed play brutal schedules but not as many as you might think. According to Phil Steele (and I challenge anyone to find a more objective college football analyst in the nation), the PAC-12 actually had more schools with difficult schedules this season with 8 teams ranked in the top 25. The SEC had 6, followed by the Big 12 with 5 and the ACC with 3. Check it out here:

http://www.fbschedules.com/2014/08/phil-steele-2014-college-football-strength-of-schedule-rankings/

Also, most FCS teams desperately want an FBS team to schedule them. Sometimes, that guaranteed payday is more than what they make during the rest of their season!

That makes it even more pathetic....the fact that these schools are willing to literally throw their football teams to the lions in order to receive a big payday. Except for the all-too-rare Appalachian State-versus-Michigan upset that occurs, these affairs are almost always lopsided and boring. The NCAA should figure out some sort of revenue-sharing plan like they have in MLB to keep these smaller schools financially whole without forcing them to be sacrificed like a lamb in the process. Is skews the records for both teams by artificially inflating the big school's record and correspondingly forcing a loss on the smaller school. I just don't like the whole practice.

The day the NCAA tries that is the day the FBS schools vote to scrap the NCAA and go with another plan.

From your keyboard to God's inbox. Fuck the NCAA and the playoff committee. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Or worse, go into reverse like we have now. Let's see what happens in the coming weeks. Should be fascinating.

So my math comes up with 7 SEC games and Southern Miss. Are we supposed to believe that Florida, Texas A&M, Tennessee and Arkansas were dogfights? OK Arkansas was but that doesn't really help your case. I'm not saying that 'Bama shouldn't be in the top four because I think that they do. All I'm saying is that the numbers don't back up the hype of the SEC being such a tough conference. Yes it's up there but it's not head and shoulders above everybody else. Switch a top SEC team and a top PAC-12 team and the results would be about the same.

man you do realize they didnt make them schedules last week? them names you just called have been in the middle of things most of the time and could beat you on any given day.except for tenn. thier stats hasnt been that good but as i remember a block field goal is all that stood between a L and a W IN 2009 when we won the NC. best solid team i ever remember at Alabama. when they come to play bama EVERY game is a dog fight. they bring everything but a crooked shovel. and for that team we played last week to be so powder puff....they helped about 8 or 9 of our guys off the field limping. but..the thing i love is regardless of who comes out on top of that SEC bunch. you got to beat the team to be the team (rick flare..kinda).that is why they had a string of NCs going on. kinda speaks for itself 2013 Florida State (14-0)
2012 Alabama (13-1)
2011 Alabama (12-1)
2010 Auburn (14-0)
2009 Alabama (14-0)
2008 Florida (13-1)
2007 Louisiana State (12-2)
2006 Florida (13-1)

Who the fuck wants to play Arkansas they have gotten better every week and I don't think Mizzou can beat them home game or not Georgia just won the East you can thank Arkansas,You can take that to the bank.

I don't care for either team because Iowa but I dislike OSU more than Michigan. It's kind of like choosing to root for AIDS or ebola. Go blue.
