I got dragged to
Villa Park today for a day out in the sun with my BFFF and another mate who decided to go to this game thinking it might be crucial for survival, and they've pretty much got the job done. There were rumblings of discontent over the quality (or lack thereof) of some of the play, but my mate was forced to concede that if they could play rubbish but score 3 goals every home game, they'd take it. I did think it was amusing when they were singing the "Empty seats, my lord" verse of the Paul McGrath song to the Hull fans considering they only managed a 37K attendance at their 43K capacity ground and there was a whole section they didn't bother selling tickets for, and the constant singing about lower division local rival Birmingham City smacks of "small club mentality" when they could be singing about their own team/players, but whatever. A lot more fun than went to see them lose to City a year ago March.
Fulham and Cardiff both got relegated today. Under normal circumstances I wouldn't hold anything against either club but both have been run like jokes this year and the men running them deserve the ignominy of relegation to see the error of their ways. Hopefully Vincent Tan fucks off so the Bluebirds can go back to being blue, and Fulham realize that "three managers during the course of a single season" is never a good idea. Feel bad for Scotty Parker, who I admired when he was at other clubs and adored when he was at Tottenham. What a pro.
As for my lot.... Sherwood will still end up with the best win/loss % of any Spurs manager in the Prem era assuming a) we beat Villa and b) he loses his job in the summer... but that's the point, he'll lose it. Because Levy, the man who understands business but not football and has no concept of patience, will relieve him because he thinks there is a quick fix out there, a manager with European pedigree with both the nous to get a club into the Champions League, and the desire to come and do it for Spurs. There isn't. I'm now thinking Moyes, with his decade of experience of doing OK on a budget, is actually the right man for
Villa and the best bloke for us , as I said before, would be someone like Laudrup. De Boer is being rumoured but I even think
he could realistically do better than us. Who knows. Beat Villa and we finish the season only 3 points worse off than last year, which isn't bad considering the ridiculous amount of upheaval, new players, managerial change and rumours and the fact we've had constant revolving door centrebacks due to injuries.
I can think of two who were in the wall today.
I have zero interest in anything you have to say about the club I support, and I say
I rather than
we because I've chosen the word
support, and since the day you declared your interest in Spurs in this thread, I haven't seen you write a single supportive sentiment.
