Exactly, its been way out of hand for a long time, and everyone wonders why the small market teams have no chance year after year?
Yeah i'm a A's fan and I think AA teams associated with the Yankees has a bigger salary budget than we do!!

Ah the A's, a perfect prime example. They set the precedent for a small market club being able to compete through their farm system and it was very nice to see but what happened? yeah due to free agency and excessive salaries each stud was gone one by one and you couldn't keep them![]()
What's most ridiculous about the contract is it's length. 10 years??? Albert's best years are behind him. He'll be 32 years old next month. DH? Probably eventually....he'll be BY FAR the highest paid DH in history. Picture this....in 4 years Pujols is 36 years old, batting .278, hitting 23 HRs and driving in 81 runs....and making $25 million dollars with another SIX years remaining on his contract. Glad it will be with him wearing the halo instead of the birds on the bat. The Angels are paying for what Albert has done, not what he's going to do. His skills can only continue to diminish. I wish Albert the best and he leaves behind some really great memories for this Cardinal fan but the Angels are chumps for doing this deal if you ask me. Now the Cardinals can go out and find some middle infielders and a RH-hitting CF.
As silly as it sounds, the Marlins actually offered Pujols MORE money than the Angels did....$275 million!!! Florida has no state income tax either and he turned it down??? :surprise:

Without looking at any of the details (or, honestly, any of the links yet), I am going to guess the deal breaker was a no-trade clause. The Marlins have made it very well known they will not include no-trade clauses in any deal - other wise, once the Marlins get their rings, they can trade Pujols to a schmuck team like the Pirates or Reds.
Reds are a schmuck team?? LOL....well, maybe last year they were. Anyway, comments are dead-on in addition to the fact that I believe that Pujols sees his 1B days as being limited and a move to an American League club was a preferred option. Whatever the reason, he's off to California. I wish him luck....he's a terrific player, maybe the best of our era. I'll still root for him (unless he's playing against St. Louis).
^
Yeah man, that is fucking awful!
Breaking news....Pujols signs with Angels for 10 years/$250 million. I hate to see Albert leave but that's just crazy. I'm glad the Redbirds didn't pony up for that kind of commitment. Hope you enjoy the money Albert. You can say goodbye to any statue next to Stan the Man now.

You'll remember A-Rod got pretty much the same exact deal when he switched to pinstripes. Garnett also got a similar deal in NBA when the Wolves signed him to a 10/$200M deal back in the day as well.
