Arsenal v Barca in the Champion's League. The title goes through the defending champs. Might as well take on 'em now and get 'em outta the way.

I don't think I've read a single non-Goon analyst give the Goons a chance to beat Barca. This really has the feeling of the matchup where the overwhelming favorite gets defeated. I think we'll see 3-2 Arsenal in the first leg, 2-1 Arsenal in the second :thefinger

To quote a great sportsman, "to be the man you have to beat the man."
If Arsenal beat Barca, they beat the Kings of Europe. Sure there's still a semi final and final after that, but I believe the team that wins this tie will win the Champions League. Sorry Man U :thefinger

Interesting, sir. :) I'm going for a Barca smash. Barca to win both legs. :D

It's good to be the king...
I think Arsenal's defense, without Gallas, will be very shaky. I like Sol Campbell against Hull City or Stoke, not against Barcelona. If we don't have a backline of Sagna, Gallas, Vermaelen, Clichy than it will be difficult for the Goons to keep Barca at bay. If Gallas isn't available, I wonder if Song will slide back to cover Gallas's spot and Eboue moves into Midfield? I don't see Sol Campbell playing for us if Gallas is injured.

Arsenal need to sign an actual #1 keeper next season. Almunia doesn't ever "play big" in big games. He's really a good #2 masquerading as a #1.

But, I don't buy that Barca will have the bulk of possession. They may have more, but the Goons know how to protect the ball too:D

It should be amazing.

I'll take Almunia's Penalty save against WHAM though....:D

Does anyone have either Fox Soccer Channel or Fox Soccer Plus in HD yet?I have DirecTV and it would be so nice to watch my games in HD.

I would love to see Sol Campbell go up against Messi and Iniesta and Pedro. What a train wreck that would be lol. This may be comepletely out there, but what if Arsenal slid Sagna inside and Eboue on the right? Sure, that's 3 natural fullbacks, but it's not like Barca trots out big imposing strikers, especially if Ibrahimovic is not in and the forwards are Iniesta, Pedro, and Messi. I remember Man United playing an unconventional backline against us a couple years ago, and it worked.

Barcelona should win this one i don't think it will be very easy, but they'll win at home, and get a draw away i think.

When Arsenal went down to 10 against West Ham this weekend Wenger moved Song back to cover for Vermaelen. Song is the guy who can slide in and play Defense.

Sol Campbell has played pretty damn good since he came back, but he was somewhat exposed by West Ham. Sol has the size to muscle people and can play angles, but 1-on-1, I think the reflexes are shot. The case for HIM picking up a red against West Ham was stronger than Vermaelen's  I think against Barca, Wenger would probably look at Silvestre covering the inside ahead of Campbell. Maybe?

We need Gallas back.

From what I've been reading, Ibrahimovic has faded badly for Barca at the moment. Messi is the one scoring all the goals. I don't think Henry will be able to focus against Arsenal. I think Cesc is HIGHLY MOTIVATED to play against Barca.

We went down to 10 against them in the CL in 2006 and didn't get blown out. I don't see us getting blown out by them.

I think a player like Denilson could come up huge against Barca as if he were trying out for them. He's a player that could perform against them and maybe we sell him to them this summer? I also like Bendtner's confident attitude right now.

For the very first time there will be 2 french team against each other on Champion's League : Bordeaux VS Lyon.
Bordeaux hold the title of French Champion. to get to this 1./4 final, they went through a group with Bayern Munchen, Maccabih Haifa and Juventus. They won all there games except the one in Torino and they off-course ended on 1st place of the group. On 1/8 they have beaten Olympiakos
Before Bordeaux got Champion, Lyon had won 7 straight titles. They got 2nd in a group with Fiorentina, Lioverpool and Debrecen. On 1/8 they habe beaten Real Madrid.

For now, in the French league, Lyon is 5th, Bordeaux is 1st.

I think Lyon will get through, they are more erxperienced in the CL than Bordeaux.

Lyon's best players are : Toulalan (defensive midfield), Lisandro (striker), and Lloris (GK).
Bordeaux's are : A. Diarra (defensive midfield), Gourcuff (offensive midfield) and Chamakh (Striker).

No! Bordeaux played tactically the better Football (Soccer).
It has also got to feel even Bayern Munich! ;)
Lyon has Problems and is also still in Transition.
And with Gourcuff, they currently have the best Midfield Players and I hope it will continue to Bordeaux, Marseille finally reflected as it is the turn to become a Champion in France!
Since Bordeaux is fully concentrated entirely on the Champions League.

Lyon has a way better bench than Bordeaux and this could be very important.
About Marseille, I think there is some kind of a curse on this team : in the beginning of the 90, Marseille was the best team in France and one of the best in Europe : The won championship 4 times (89, 90, 91, 92) and won one CL (93). But, in 1993, there was a corruption scandal and the team was sent to the lower division. Since that, Marseille never won any competition.

As a fan of Paris SG, i'm glad about this :thefinger
(in cas of you don't know, Paris SG VS Marseille, it's like Real Madrid VS Barcelona)

From what I have gathered this goes way beyond a rivalry like Barca/Real, that is real, true and deep hatred for one another, more like Lazio/Roma. Boulogne Boys and Commando Ultra literally go to war with each other.

Anyhow, Bayern kicked Scheisse 04 out of the Cup today...:thefinger...:glugglug:. Once again, Robben was the matchwinner for us...:banger:

My gut tells me Lyon will beat Bordeaux. I want to watch potential Arsenal target Chamakh...:thefinger Maybe he will score a few for Bordeaux

BerlinHBK, ur right, Gourcuff is freakin great.....Milan were stupid for selling him. They could use his youth in their midfield. Btw FCGB's whole midfield is great, with Diarra and Wendel as well. In fact Chamakh IMO is only their 4th best player, hes overrated.

titsrock, Ibra has been in a cold spell, but he did score today. Henry is utterly useless. He finally earned a start today, and got benched at half time. In a 6 man rotation for 3 forward spots, he's 6th. And I would be shocked if we rolled right over Arsenal, but I do expect to win. Im pretty sure Messi has about 657 goals this season. He gets hat tricks like theyre going outta style.

Is everything I know!
But what a Team!
Fabien Barthez, Jocelyn Angloma, Marcel Desailly, Abédi Pelé, Didier Deschamps, Dragan Stojkovic, Alen Bokšić and last (Tante Käthe) Rudi Voeller!
Since I was only 13 but in Retrospect a lot of Fantastic Players!

10 Game Day 1-0 and 26 Game Day 0:3 Lol

When the Rivalry, because I agree with you!
In "El Clásico" is more in sporting Terms, and thus they are Competitors!
And at Marseille-Paris SG is beyond that! ;)
As well as in Lazio Rome -AS Rome, Boca-River, Dortmund-Schalke just to name a few.

If one relies on a rather Old Men's Team, instead of giving the Player Time to enforce it!
But the Example of "Real Madrid" one sees clearly that when Top Clubs not have a long settling-in period is given! Either you just show what you have on it or it will be removed and just shines elsewhere.

To Chamakh, let's see whether he will be overvalued. Liverpool was so well off of him, but it looks like he goes to Arsenal!
