2008 MLB Thread

I like our chances over the Rays considering a good chunk of their last 30 games are on the road, and they have trouble winning on the road. However, if they make the playoffs and the Yanks dont then I have to say go Rays. How could anyone not root for them, it's definatly a feelgood story. But I can't see them beating New York or Boston(God forbid) in the longrun.

BOO yanks arnt makeing the playoffs. Sox winning the division. screw the rays.

OH YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Reds have JR almost out of my life. So close so please Griffey just go.

The Reds have agreed to trade Griffey to the White Sox, but he needs to waive his no-trade clause, FoxSports reports.

He's waived it, so it's a done deal.

Now the biggie is what happens with Manny and the Sox.

Holy shit, I cant believe the Dodgers got Manny. Hell yeah. Damn that is awesome.

It was either gonna be Manny or Epstein. Which one would you sox fans wanna keep around the most?

Manny fucked himself. Boston's a proud city. They don't like their millionaire players making asses of themselves in the press (hello Mo Vaughn?)

This is a genius trade actually. Manny's past his prime and needed to go anyway. Jason Bay, if he was a Pirate, is a cheap rental who might catch fire playing in Beantown. On paper it's a straight swap. In reality..well, we'll see.

Genius move. The Sox will probably hold on to the Wild Card, lose this year but clear out Manny and fortify for some big splash signings this December....

It's always good policy for a club to get rid of the overpaid, past-prime, aging relic...look at Pedro, Nomar, Mo Vaughn...they never amounted to shit after they left Boston. Same will most likely happen with Manny. He's already done everything he can in his career. There's nothing left for him to do...We all know why Clemens "amounted to shit" hint:pimpdaddy:nono:

Dodger Angel World series just like I predicted.

Angels, yes. Dodgers, I don't think so. They might win their division, sure, maybe even with a losing record, but there are 6 teams in the Central and East divisions who are much better teams than the Dodgers, so even if they win their horrendous division, they'll have to go through at least two of those teams to make it to the World Series. Angels vs. Cubs. That's what it's going to be in all likelihood. The Cubs swept the Brewers in a four game series in Milwaukee. No more qualms. They're the real deal. They made the Brewers look like a farm team.

As I suspected, there is no god. Manny to the dodgers.:bawling: What happened to Manny to the Marlins??? dodgers got pitching and defense and now some semblance of an offense. They just might get pretty deep into the playoffs. While SF's oil tycoon GM cant help but field a Double-A lineup of geriatric Negro Leaguers. Bah, we got Lincecum tomorrow that might soothe the Giants fans.:spump:

As of recent years it does seem like the Red Sox know when to get rid of players. I can't quite remember who the quote is attributed to but there is a saying, "It's better to get rid of a player a year too early than a year to late".

shayd when the a's get 19 baserunners and score 3 times you know your team is slumping. sounds like manny is going to be a marlin, with some of those players flipped to the pirates for jason bay.

I'm not so much worried about stranding guys as I am not even making contact with the ball.

Since the All-Star Break, our strikeouts in each game look like:
12, 18, 9, 10, 6, 7, 7, 8, 9, 8, 7, and 8.

All teams have trouble getting runners in from time to time, but right now we're making the damn Padres look like a team of .300 hitters.

shayd welcome to the pain of younger players. good news though frank thomas is back starting today. the dodgers can't complain about this deal boston is paying the rest of manny's salary and the 2 players they gave up do not hurt thier system's depth at all. boston wins as $40 million in payroll is available and jason bay costs $7.5 next year.pittsburg wins as they get 4 more players to help the team 3 now and 1 in the future. plus the yankess win as manny killed them.

It's funny because they rooks are the ones actually hitting right now. Mark Ellis who has had up to this point an outstanding year has tanked the last three weeks. I personally think he's hiding a serious shoulder injury, but I love the guy, so I don't mind him being out there. Jack Cust still leads the league in strikeouts, and that's no surprise, although it was nice to see him hit a jack tonight. Bobby Crosby also started hitting early in the year and then just stopped. The rookies are all actually holding their own for the most part, and I'm excited to see them develop.

ellis probably is but he's a free agent year end so he must hide it. cust will lead the leauge year in and year out because he swings at his pitch just wish the a's batted him 6th or 7th not 3rd. yeah i like all the young talent they have assembled to bad it won't be together more than 4 years

Reds got back Hairston jr. last night. Its a great thing to have him back even though his 1st day back he went 0-4.
