Okinawa and Iwo were isolated islands on the fringe perimeters of Japan, and that was how ****** it was.
The absolutely scary thing is that they both would just have been a small taste of what would have been expected if they invaded the mainland. Mountainous terrain (which could shelter from a bombing campaign), literally the bulk of the population and everything the ****** kept for a last stand. And unlike Berlin, there would have been nowhere to "breakout".

I think both the Americans and Japanese are glad it didn't come to that.

What are depleted uranium rounds and why is Putin so upset they're coming to Ukraine?

A staple in games like COD and tech that has been used in wars like Kosovo. Now coming to Ukraine?

Depleted uranium is incredibly dense. Those are what come out of that big ass canon in the nose of an A10 Warthog. They use them to shred tanks, The thing is, they still have small traces of radioactivity, which is why, the canon in the A10, doesn't eject the shells and let them fall to earth, it sends them back through a chain system, and stores them in the plane until it lands. At that point, they remove, and I would assume reuse them. I know there's a video somewhere on youtube of the ground crew performing that task. They may not even use them anymore, because of the radiation, which may be one of the reasons why it's such a big deal.

It's interesting to see that DU is not ****** or covered by any UN treaty. From what I've read, it's because the tests are mixed at best, and there's no conclusive evidence of its toxicity. Of course, it doesn't mean there's no danger. Methinks it's because it's a military advantage only certain countries have access to, and they don't want to give it up.

It gives putsky free reign to use DU of his own, so it will be interesting to see if he does (likely), and what effect it will have.

Whoa. I really hope the breech of that *** held, otherwise the inside is going to be very messy.

Resentment towards JTF2 is hindering military effectiveness, special ****** commanders warned
Premium Link Upgrade

JTF2 personnel are seen by other special ****** soldiers as being paid more and outfitted with better equipment, according to reports compiled for the leaders of the Canadian Special Operations ****** Command (CANSOFCOM). There were complaints about how poorly JTF2 treated other special ****** personnel at times. The unit is also seen as receiving more support from military leadership.

Interesting article on the tension between elite special ******. Sort of like Delta ***** having issues with SEAL Team 6. Looks like there's some elitism going on within Canadian SpecOps

This probably belongs in the political section, but I can't help but wonder if we need to dig up JFK, and get him to work on this.

Vespa 150 TAP
They started being produced in the early 1950's and stopped being made around 1959. Yes, it is a Vespa scooter outfitted with a reinforced frame and a 75MM (3.0 in) recoilless rifle. This is a French design with an American Anti-tank weapon attachment. Around 800 of these made it to the Algerian War and got utilized. Cheap to produce and could even be parachuted to the front lines.

I wonder if this is where Looney Toons got the idea of a *** making a forward moving vehicle, go backwards instead.

The Ansaldo MIAS (Motomitragliatrice Blindata d'Assalto) was a very small, one-man Italian armored vehicle developed by Ansaldo in 1935. Optimistically described by some as a "tankette," it was more accurately a mobile machine *** position or a self-propelled armored shield for infantry assault.

The MIAS was armed with twin 6.5 mm Isotta-Fraschini "Scotti" machine guns. The operator was protected from rifle fire by an armored shield at the front and sides, but the rear and underside were unarmored. It was powered by a small 5 hp motorcycle engine, giving it a very low top speed of around 5 km/h forward.

I thought this would be a good place for this:

"The Premium Link Upgrade shows you don't need a handful of ultra-precise, expensive weapons, Goncharov told BI. You need a massive supply of good enough firepower."

You also don't need precise weapons if you don't care about collateral damage like the IDF.
