The fall of the USSR was engineered by Reagan and Thatcher who knew that the Soviet economy couldn't stand the arms race. They just couldn't afford to counter initiatives like Star Wars and the cruise missiles.By the time Gorbachov was in power the USSR was a bust flush;Gorbachov accepted the reality and did what he had to do.

actually, i think that is a fallacy. the fall of the ussr was due to imperial overstretch, a rigid economic system, and an inability to reform. these three phenomena now threaten to topple the usa.

about why we fight. some nice chap uploaded it onto youtube in four parts. find it by searching, it is so good.

At least he didn't massacre freedom, invade the free world, and be a Neo Nazi about everything.

He was a liar under oath and the biggest UN ass kisser. He almost sucked Annan's cock. He did nothing to prevent 9/11, he believed too much in Arafat who was a terrorist and he did nothing to stop illegal aliens coming from Mexico. Neo nazi??? You gotta be kidding me. Just because you are asked to respect your constitution and the rules instaured by your government, you consider your government as far right wing???? Seriously, revise your politics because you are way out of your mind and irrealistic. There is nothing wrong with being patriotic.
The free world????? There were already problems in Somalia in Mogadiscio but fucking Clinton removed the troops like a gutless coward. Clinton is a communist, I seriously regret that Senator Mac Carthy is dead, he would have been very efficient to short cut Clinton and his wife and put them out of the political system for ever.
I have voted Carter but the second in terms of U.S worst president for me is Clinton.

Bill Clinton spent more money on counter-terrorism than any other president in history. You might want to check your facts.

No, he did absolutely nothing after the USS Cole bombing, the first WTC bombing and the Nairobi US Ambassy bombing. He didn't prevent terrorism and he didn't catch Ossama when he had an opportunity to do it.

Actually the name was McCarthy but that is a minor detail. He was a liar of the 1st order with his assertions of vast numbers of communists in the govt. And Edward R Murrow probably the most famous and respected Journalist in American history exposed him, along with Joseph Welch the lawyer who famously said to tailgunner Joe in the army- McCarthy hearings "Until this moment, Senator, I think I never gauged your cruelty or your recklessness[...]" When McCarthy resumed his attack, Welch interrupted him: "Let us not assassinate this lad further, Senator. You've done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir? At long last, have you left no sense of decency?" He then left the room to loud applause from the spectators, and a recess was called.
Clinton is a communist is so ridiculous I won't even dignify it with a response.

here are some words about Reagan from
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronal_Reagan
"During his Presidency, Ronald Reagan pursued policies that reflected his optimism in individual freedom, expanded the American economy, and contributed to the end of the Cold War.[51] The "Reagan Revolution," proponents claimed, would reinvigorate American morale, and reduce the people's reliance upon government.[51] As president, Reagan kept a series of leather bound diaries, in which he talked about daily occurrences of his presidency, commented on current issues around the world (expressing his point of view on most of them), and frequently mentioned his wife, Nancy. The diaries were published in May 2007, into the bestselling book, The Reagan Diaries."
"During Reagan's tenure, income tax rates were lowered significantly, with the top personal tax bracket dropping from 70% to 28% in seven years,[64] although effective payroll tax rates increased.[65] Real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth recovered strongly after the 1982 recession and grew during Reagan's eight years in office at an annual rate of 3.4% per year,[66] slightly lower than the post-World War II average of 3.6%.[67] Unemployment peaked at 9.7% percent in 1982 then dropped during the rest of Reagan's presidency,[61] while employment increased by 16 million, and inflation significantly decreased.[68]"
"He reappointed Paul Volcker as Chairman of the Federal Reserve, and in 1987 appointed monetarist Alan Greenspan to succeed him. Some economists, such as Nobel Prize winners Milton Friedman and Robert A. Mundell, argue that Reagan's tax policies invigorated America's economy and contributed to the economic boom of the 1990s.[77] Other economists, such as Nobel Prize winner Robert Solow, argue that the deficits were a major reason why Reagan's successor, George H.W. Bush, reneged on a campaign promise and raised taxes.[77]"
So for those who hate Reagan, know your facts.

here are some words about Reagan
...you've wrote them yourself? :georges:
"During his Presidency, Ronald Reagan pursued policies that reflected his optimism in individual freedom, expanded the American economy, and contributed to the end of the Cold War.
I already debunked that notion.
The "Reagan Revolution," proponents claimed, would reinvigorate American morale,
What's that? :dunno:
[...] and reduce the people's reliance upon government.
Any homeless vet; any impoverished farmer agrees: Yippie!
As president, Reagan kept a series of leather bound diaries, in which he talked about daily occurrences of his presidency, commented on current issues around the world (expressing his point of view on most of them),
Cool! Goebbels did that, too!
"During Reagan's tenure, income tax rates were lowered significantly, with the top personal tax bracket dropping from 70% to 28% in seven years,
Which means: He widened the wealth gap.
Real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth recovered strongly after the 1982 recession and grew during Reagan's eight years in office at an annual rate of 3.4% per year,
So did the GDP under the Socialist government in Spain - so what? World economy surged...
Unemployment peaked at 9.7% percent in 1982 then dropped during the rest of Reagan's presidency,
ditto.

Not mentioned in your quote:

Reagan ignored the looming AIDS epidemic:

http://zmagsite.zmag.org/Jan2004/bronski0104.html

Reagan led Europe on the brink of an outright war:

Reagan visited a SS-cemetery in Bitburg:

Reagan supported Olllie North's dealings and wheelings:

So for those who hate Reagan, know your facts.
So for those who support Reagan, know your facts!

In Speech on Religion, Obama Explains His Faith in Oprah
Calls Belief in Talk Show Hostess a “Personal Matter’

Under pressure to explain his religious faith to the American people, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama delivered a forty-five minute speech today discussing his belief in Oprah Winfrey.

In an election year that has been dominated by discussions of candidates’ religious faith, perhaps no candidate’s religion has been more controversial than Sen. Obama’s Oprahism.

Speaking to supporters at the University of Iowa, the Illinois senator devoted his entire speech to his religious faith but mentioned Ms. Winfrey only once by name.

“My religion is a personal matter to me,” Sen. Obama told his followers. “Having said that, let me make this clear: I have accepted Oprah as my host.”

Later in the day, Ms. Winfrey toured the state with Mr. Obama and, in a stunning demonstration of her influence, briefly caused a solar eclipse.

“Sun and moon, do my bidding!” she roared, raising her hands above her head and delighting the crowd with the celestial display.

“Oprah is without question the most powerful force in the election right now,” said Carol Foyler, 45, an Obama supporter from Cedar Rapids. “I’d like to see Bill Clinton do that.”

Davis Logsdon, who studies the interrelation between politicians, religion and talk-show hosts at the University of Minnesota, said that Sen. Obama’s worship of Oprah Winfrey puts him in the mainstream of American theological belief.

“Over thirty percent of Americans currently define themselves as Oprahists,” Mr. Logsdon said. “And that number is higher during sweeps.”

Elsewhere, the CIA created more controversy today by acknowledging that it accidentally returned several interrogation tapes to Blockbuster.

Yes it was but Reagan realised that it was the right time to apply pressure.Remember that the military budget of the USSR was a crippling proportion of its economy. The US spends a lot on the military of course but most of that is wages which circulates back into the economy.

I won't argue that he did not spend more and put pressure on the USSR to try to keep up,but it did cost us a lot also. But the part I would take issue there is the statement that most of the military budget is for wages.I think if you look most of the spending is on high priced weapons systems. If it really was very good as a jobs program I think it could be argued that it benefited the many as opposed to the few I think it really does benefit mainly. You know the Halliburtons and the raytheons.

My neighbor just said, "you think Bush was bad, watch if Giuliani gets in".

Bush is a hard act to follow.

True. At least Giuliani can pronounce words correctly, though. Someone who can speak with some diction would be an improvement alone.
