As I recall the late great Chick Hearn, a guy with a very high basketball IQ who observed all of these players on a regular basis, ranked Elgin Baylor and Jordan on about equal footing as best all around.

I definitely think you could argue that Kareem was as good or better than Jordan. I just want to know one stat that makes Chamberlain better.

Statistics don't give the whole picture.
"Statistics are a lot like mini-skirts, they give a good idea but hide the most important thing."

I enjoy watching Basketball now an again. Jordan was a great player as was Chamberlain. Chamberlain was the first great so all new players will be compared to him. I feel that Chamberlain was the best very closely by Jordan and the rest.

MJ's basketball was only outdone by his acting.

i loved that movie, mate!!!
i remember the excitement for seeing MJ in the big screen!!!
besides, it's a movie you wanna see with your kids or something, not a movie to win an Oscar, you know...

I don't know if I'd condemn them as wannabes :dunno:
Let their digits speak accordingly when the time is appropriate.

they're annoying me because of their arrogance...
they DON'T deserve to be in the pedestal that these (poll) players are. Not yet. they have a long way to go before that. In fact, maybe they never get there.

I like the list but I went with Michael Jordan because he made me watch a game. I was never a basketball fan and I'm still not but when I saw Jordan play I was literally in awe of what he could do. After he left the Bulls and I saw what was left in the NBA I stopped watching basketball again. Yeah there was that time with the Wizards but let's never speak of that.

same for me. MJ made me love basketball (in TV and in real life!) and i (almost) stop watching when he left for good.

I think the stilt would have schooled jordan but thats just my opinon

1) Larry Bird
2) Micheal Jordan (Cant put him #1 being a Pistons fan)
3) Wilt

....I would say Jordan he made the game exciting and just his presence could make or change any game...6 championships, 5 Regular Season MVP's, 6 time finals MVP, Olympic gold medal...and a Baseball average of .202 3HR's 51 RBI's and 30SB....great athlete a legend
That would've been 8 championships had he not retired and went to play baseball.

Wilt Chamberlain dominated his opponents. He averaged 50 PPG for an entire season. He led the NBA in reboundiong several times, scoring several times and he even led the NBA in assists from the center position.

Julius Erving saved the financially troubled NBA when he came over from the ABA. The 76ers would go on the road and last-place teams would sell out because everybody wanted to see the Doctor make his housecalls.

However, if we're talking about the best basketball player ever, the answer has to be Michael Jordan. His ability to score by driving the lane and with his jump shot, his defense, his habit of coming through in the clutch... I was never a fan of his, but I have to give credit where it's due.

Kobe is better than the last 4 players mentioned combined he is rediculous. but i voted for MJ. Kobe at least stands a Chance against him

Kobe is better than Elgin Baylor + Jerry West + Oscar Robertson + Bill Russell?
don't you know anything about NBA history? please, oh please, go read some basketball enciclopedia.

and about MJ, do you think Kobe has "Chance" against him?
please read this and post back if you think the same:
http://board.freeones.com/showpost.php?p=2262073&postcount=48

he doesn't have ANY Chance at all. he's just a little drop between the NBA history ocean.

only Wilt Chamberlain has a REAL Chance.

Jordan!

as for the Kobe/Jordan debate. . . there will NEVER be another Jordan. I am glad to have watched him play, i admire his ability to adapt his game as he aged, and his overall complete skills on both ends of the court.

Kobe is good, and yes, he is the player that reminds me most of MJ, but his EQUAL or BETTER?. . . . no
