Again ...
She's the first speaker to demand a near jumbo jet (B 757), if I recall correctly.
Yes, because of the sheer distance to California. It's more of an Executive requirement -- i.e., comes from the Executive, not the Legislative -- that she have a vehicle so capable.
It's an overplayed argument. Even the W. administration crossed their own, Republican counterparts on the pettiness of the argument, and repeatedly pointed out that it's a requirement, she is the next in-line after the VP.
I'm open for correction though.
The 757 is not that much bigger than the 737, and before the newer 737-800/900 models, the engines were far more efficient. Frankly Boeing's stupidity on the 717-200 (fka MD-95) cost them some of the marketshare that Embrier now has with the E-190/195, because they felt it competed too much with the 737. The 717 is the most under-marketed aircraft ... ever ... and now I'm sure airlines regret it ... sans the one airlines that owns most of them (and wanted more, but got 737s after Boeing cancelled production).
I agree with you, re the H1B visas, BTW.
Over 90% of the H1B's I work with are oversold on their expertise. The remaining 10% are good and getting fucked.
People should just get Green Cards. If they aren't of use, then they have to leave if they don't secure work.
The problem with that, outside of H1B Visa v. Green Card, is that too many fucking politicians cater to non-Americans for votes (God don't get me started). People wonder why even McCain crosses Republicans on that, but it's because he's from Arizona, and even he has to!
That's why we have services for illegals and immigrants who don't pay taxes. The solution is simple. If you cannot secure a job that is paying, you don't get services. You cannot carpet yourself in the US for services and not work.
That would solve the whole problem. Immigrants who "toughen it out" are what America was built on. Immigrants who "abuse the system" are the new-age bullshit. We don't need H1B Visas to protect us by labeling them "guest workers," we need immigrants with Green Cards who stay because they are needed or uniquely qualified and can find those jobs (at the same pay) and those who will leave because they can't find jobs and, just as important, don't get services as they don't.
This "oh, we have to give them services" crap is killing me. I'm sorry, I'm a heartless asshole, but if you want to stop the illegal and carpetbagging issue, you stop handing out services to people who haven't paid a dime in any generation to this nation! Sorry, but truth. Even citizens who live off the government at least have some working history in their family history.
Every immigrant has that opportunity, to make for themselves. That's what the US has been built on. We're all immigrants at some point.
