when the **** hits the fan

you don't have to be a hardcore survivalist just to be prepared. it might be adequate to have a plan in place. your condition and locale will dictate your needs. what do you expect to face? flood, earthquake, nuclear accident, economic collapse. . .the list goes on and you can't prepare for every contingency.

put on your tin-foil hat and share your thoughts. be facetious if you like.

i live in an earthquake zone, near a nuclear plant, prone to wildfires, mudslides, and economic collapse. here's a short list of "essentials"

*clean ******** water, or a purification system. we have a hot-water heater and some bleach. 'nuff said.
*canned food. this stuff tastes awful and lasts forever. don't forget an opener.
*well-stocked first-aid pack including dust masks.
************* ***** if you need them. get an extra month worth and rotate stock.
*some form of illumination.
*at least one multi-tool with *****, pliers etc. . .
*extra cold weather clothes. micro thermal blankets (those shiny ones)
*guns and ammo.
*current pictures of loved ones.
*a journal and pencils.
*iodine pills in case of radiation leak. these prevent thyroid cancer.
*baby needs if you have any. diapers, formula etc. . .
*pet needs .

these are kept in various locations on and around the property and in vehicles. a "bug-out bag" for each ****** member is also a good idea. redundency is good, but if you're going mobile, keep it light. cash might be good, or it might be worth squat.

if you're thinking of a long term total collapse of society or somthing like what happened in russia in '90-'95 you might want to hoard items for barter. some things i've been considering:

*salt and possibly other spices
*cigarettes
*******
*porn

from what i've read, the most valuable commodity in any catastrophic event is your community. get to know your neighbors. if you can all trust each other in good times, then you'll all be a lot stronger in hard times.

but above all, have a plan.

where's the US Armed ****** Statistical Manuel on how to survive on a minimum wage job?

Let me first say that this is Reality sitting in for Facetious.

Secondly, and hear me out on this . . . it's brief -

In thelast 20 - 30 years, the government has done many things to strip away Americas sense of community an self reliance. There used to be a Civil Defense mechanism in place, here in the states - Today it is non existent. It would appear that they'd prefer that we resemble a New Orleans ambience . . God forbid the unknown destructive and perilous occurs. Be on the ready for the most calamitous situation. What that would mean is an effective shutdown of all roadway thoroughfares and all commerce i.e. - No gas stations No convenient grocer etc.

Remember the ****** farmer ? Very scant and few today, only to be swiped by the corporatists. Much of what we eat are imports. We'd better find real food source solutions and a manufacturing base, once again, for / as a National security measure.

OK, here we go _

Most people frget that most households have a 40 + (?) gallon water heater that could provide some useful potable water, if need be.

Must have -

• a sharp quality steel folding ***** along with a compact pocket sharpening fixture.

• A new generation of flashlights are available -
The Luxeon LED type. They're brighter and much longer lasting than the old battery draining conventional incandesent types.

• Batteries • Batteries • Batteries • for anything you need

• A quality AM / Shortwave radio.

• A jug of bleach to sterilize any questionable water that you may need. Seek required ratio for proper steralization.

I've always said that the best target for an opposing ***** would be to strike a regional sanitation plant. That will shut down a city real fast ! That said, everybody needs to have a couple of ergonomic, user friendly shovels to dig our own porta toilets.

• Dry Rice and or Beans - 25 lbs for each person. This provides a food source that keeps darn near forever.

• Several 5 Gallon propane tanks to heat (with proper ventilation of course) and cook with. Also a case of the smaller torch sized propane bottles.

• Plenty of pet food (up to a 3 month supply)

• A firearm or arm(s) and proper munitions that you are entirely comfortable firing.
God forbid, a hungry band of gang banger thugs come to kick your door down for rations ! :violent:

Many to list here ! That's all for now ~

May you be blessed by your creator :angels: Is this PC enough for some of you ?

this is dan rather sitting in for reality on freeones. reminding you to take nothing for granted. in a crisis situation, the shorties are going to feel insecure. normal comforts such as television may not be available. it will be up to you, dear viewer, to keep the troops morale at an operational level. remind them that we will make it through this, no matter what. things can get confused, but clear-headedness can and should prevail.

add to a list of recommended items:
*nail file, coffee and Quench skin lotion
*duct tape
*tarps
*a cool hand-crank flashlight and shortband radio like my *** has
*small musical instruments eg. harmonica

this is dan rather for freeones. . . .

When the **** hits the fan...it makes a hell of a mess

Can I bring along my finger scissors and bodice dagger for protection?

If anyone needs boxcutters, I have several.

Oh, and I will not forgot my battery operated toy.

In addition to all of that, I'd probably print out a couple copies of these:

I live in Florida ...

I live in Florida. Hurricanes are a reality. We keep ...

- A rotating supply of 3 months non-perishable food and a month of ******** water. We could probably stretch the food to 6 months, although the ******** water would be tight over a few months.
- Hand crank flashlights and radios, among other things.
- A good year supply (i.e., if I took the daily dose every day) of common, OTC, *****.
- Our gas tanks go agove half-empty most of the time, especially during the fall hurricane season.
- About 4000VA total capacity battery backup charged over 5 UPS systems. This served us very well during Charlie and Frances. When power was out, we watched the storms on satellite TV (yes, my digital dish was nailed down damn good).

One thing I was also thinking about getting (or even building) was a desalinasation machine. That way if I really needed ******** water, I could get it from the ocean. But I'm not sure if that would be feasible enough.

I also lived in Florida and I always had to evac with a group of juvenile deliquents during a hurricane and had a mobile evac kit in my car.

Here are some things I did:

- Keep copies of all your important papers in a watertight box. I kept a box in my car and at my house and originals in a fire proof safe.

- I don't know about other states, but in florida they usually have a period before hurricane season where you can go buy stuff to prepare tax free and often with discounts.

- Leaving the state wasn't ever an option due to my job. However, I knew several people with small ******** that would purchase airline tickets that had refund policies. It was a little expensive and if they didn't use them, they lost a little money but the price was worth the piece of mind of not having to try to drive out.

- Know the evacuation routes and places that are desgniated shelters. If you have pets, find out where you can take them NOW vs when a hurricane or fire is coming at you.

- If you have small ********, keep a water tight box of small things that can entertain them while you are evacuated or waiting out a storm.

darn...USA is a dangerous country

the worst thing that happened here was 5 day freezing rain
and no electricity for a month

When the **** hits the fan everyone will be going apeshit, and I'll be laughing my ass off. The thought of millions of pathetic maggots fleeing and trying to hide from an imminent doom amuses me. We're going to hell in a handbasket on a rocketship.

[ . . . the piece of mind of not having to try to drive out. Know the evacuation routes and places that are desgniated shelters.

great point !

As the host mentioned on the opening post, he has a diverse set of potential dangers.

It's important to distinguish each cataclysm at hand and the required supplies needed for each. There's no universal kit. Most supplies are but certainly not all !
These variables will likely further discourage the would be conscientious, on the ball American.

Are you kiddin' ? Me, prepared for what ? !

Oh you and your conspiracy theory jetsam ! We're safe. We always have been, always will be ! :*****: Hey , wasn't somebody gonna go look at tits ?
