What Are You Reading These Days?

Starting tomorrow (when it will be released!) I will be reading Jonathan Franzen's novel Freedom which is garnering the kind of rave reviews that pretty much guarantee someone a Nobel Prize in Literature someday...

Here's the opening line from the review in Esquire...
"Some people believe the era of the Great American Novel is over. Freedom makes them look like fools."

Jonathan Jones of The Guardian calls it the "novel of the century"

Maybe a bit early to declare that...:o

This book might ignite a "culture war" between those who appreciate certain kinds of fiction and those who want Harry Potter and Vampires...:cthulhu::flame:

"Chewing Gum is Fun!" by Joe Biden

"Feel My Ring Chickenhead!!!!" by Reverend Jeremiah Wright

My Shit life by Frankie Boyle :1orglaugh

Superb book - Chapter 5 alone, where he discusses sex, justifies the price. The single most honest thing I've read about this subject - ever.

If you're flicking through the book in a bookstore, just head for that section of the book. You will not be disappointed.

Funny how all those "shitty" Star Wars novels are all best sellers, I need to get caught up.

Right now I'm reading H.G. Wells War of the Worlds. I'd love to get my hands on the transcript for Orson Wells radio program.

Well shit, not only did I find the transcript but I downloaded an MP3 of the original broadcast! Here's a link to the transcript and a flash audio in case anyone is interested:

Going Nostalgic. Been rereading books from when I was a youngster. Easy reads, but really good fun. Also been reading quite a bit of Douglas Coupland and Neil Gaiman lately as well. They are amazing writers.
