The Biden Presidency

Biden backs General Milley. This is fine and why wouldn't you back your top general?

I think it would have been smart if first he had him deny that he didn't break civilian control of the military.

Some may view Milley's actions as treason, if true.

Just seems that every issue that comes up is first addressed as a political issue. This is an example where clarification could have been made first - or at least the support could have been conditional on that clarification. Something like 'General Milley has a long history of service to the country and he has my confidence and we owe it to the American people to provide clarity on these claims...blah blah blah".

A good portion of that is in the mirror. We (Americans) get what we ask for. We jump and politicize first (speaking an a general sense) and I think the politicians, and President Biden is one of them, give us what we want. President Trump certainly did and does.

I'm hoping General Milley comes out and denies this. If it is true, it does mean that either there was a serious risk of what President Trump could do, or we had a senior military leader that was skittish and took a potential step towards his own coup.

Remember what evil ahole Trump did on January 6, 2021, and don't parrot fake rumors about General Milley.

There are only three things I did:
  1. Stated what I believed to be fact and showed sources.
  2. Stated what I thought should happened and expressed my thoughts on what it could mean if the book's claims were true.
  3. Opined on what I thought is part of the problem that drive our politicians. (There is some irony to that, but except for this comment, I'll let it lie)

That is it. Anything else doesn't exist in my post.

It's funny how right wing TrumpSheep think everything is treason, except of course actual treason. It's too bad more of them didn't get Ashley Babbitt'd.

Your first sentence is spot on. I am surprised more of them didn’t get killed.

I would be up for moving the inauguration to an earlier date. The date was previously moved from March to January. Given the speed which the world moves today, having someone so powerful in a lame duck status is dangerous. The need for the delay has been erased.

Makes sense.
The only need for a gap that I can think of it to assemble the administration.

Correct, I suspect they have a fair idea of who they want before the election. Similar to most people, they perform to deadlines. If it was moved to the first business day of the year, they would find a way to make it work. Even with the late January date, not everyone is ready.

Is it workable? 🤷‍♂️ Here is one guy’s opinion: https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2021/01/a-look-at-the-long-odd-history-of-inauguration-day/

In some democracies the transition after election day is sometimes less than 2 weeks.

It’s after January 20 now, right?

Definition of Treason according to the United States Constitution:

Article III, Section 3, Clause 1: Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.

That was a great response!

That takes a step back, and corrects the word I was using as well as the word that has been used on many other posts in this thread and others.

Thanks for that. Good Job, Bubb.

"Some may view," are just weasel words.
Depends. How is it used?
Is it used in a reflective analysis? If so, it would be exploratory and exactly the opposite. Consideration before making a decision or judgement. It encourages discussion. it acknowledges others thoughts.

Now compare that to exactly how you used the phrase. It appears without context and is somewhat a vague indictment. That adds nothing to an open and honest discussion. It is accusatory without evidence or without even the backbone of a direct challenge. It shows frustration, potential anger, and is the very definition of weasel. Your use is vague and by not directly quoting or replying to the source looks to evade obligation.

President Biden announced the Indo-Pacific security alliance, AUKUS. This will help equip Australia's defense capabilities.

https://apnews.com/article/joe-bide...nited-states-1b2e597918bc1c8dd1aab26ab32c9621

“Australia had announced in 2016 that French company DCNS had beat out bidders from Japan and Germany to build the next generation of submarines in Australia’s largest-ever defense contract. Top French officials made clear they were unhappy with the deal, which undercuts the DCNS deal.” AP News

No surprise, China is unhappy and denounced the move.

I think this is exactly what the US should be doing to counter China. China’s power has grown and continues, but it can be countered by the US and its allies. You can’t read the mind of the Chinese, but a fear is that they start to embark on military activities, including against Taiwan.

This is great out of the box thinking by the Biden administration.

In the first 8 months of the Biden Administration, China has simulated an attack on the USS Theodore Roosevelt, hacked Microsoft and about 30,000 US organizations, warned that China’s enemies will have their “heads cracked and bleeding”, flew nuclear bombers and fighter jets into Taiwan’s airspace as part of an “invasion” war game in September. Flew a record number of 28 military airplanes into Taiwan’s airspace in June, and issued a warning to Taiwan about US resolve after Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Considering where geopolitics is heading in the coming years, this is exactly the type of international progress that I hoped to see from President Biden.
