Rap "Music" Sucks

I had the "privilege" of entertaining a client tonight who is a rap "music" aficionado. Enduring the featured entertainment at the club we attended was quite likely the worst 3 hours of my life. I couldn't wait to get the fuck out of there.

I know I'm going to come across as an old angry white guy but this sorely needs to be said for those on this forum who can relate to my position. Rap "music" totally sucks. It really isn't even music....it's just the same, repetitive, redundant (can we turn down the bass just a little bit?) and morally bankrupt garbage "song" after idiotic "song"....glorification of violence and disrespect toward women and anything that represents any type of authority. Now, I can totally understand being against the establishment for sure. Hell, Ive been a rebel since I was a teenager. However, there's a right way and a wrong way to approach it. Rap and its ideals are the wrong way. Sorry....it's the truth.

Rap is wrong. It sucks. I hate it.

OK, all you ass-backwards ballcap-wearing homeboy SOBs can go ahead tear me apart....I don't care. Your "music" is garbage.

:dunno: The universe is big enough for more than one type of taste or opinion?

Hey Jagger...someone already had a post like this about "rap" some time back and when I posted a comment that it sucks...which it does, I had to have Petra remove the most disgusting rep I ever got from the guy...he was so disgusting I couldn't believe it.

But...needless to say...RAP TOTALLY SUCKS A BIG ONE and I guess I am an angry old white gal...so don't feel alone :nanner:

damn, Jagger, who pissed in your cornflakes this morning?

Are you writing for Jeff Dunham's character Walter now?

True...but some stuff just SUCKS and RAP has to be it! R&B, Jazz, R&R, Country, etc. music is more artistic than that shit!!

If "artistic" is what you want, there is plenty of "artistic" rap. There is also a ton of garbage rock and roll, r&b, jazz, country etc. There isn't a genre more "artistic" than the other. It's the artists that lack it.

Not all rap is guns, drugs and fucking women. And if it is, like Biggie, he is actually living that lifestyle. What else is he going to sing about? Country stars can talk about their dog, truck and ex wife in every song and nobody says shit about that.

It just depends on who you (or anyone else) can relate to. Everyone doesn't get everything.

I listen to all kinds of music from classical to country to rap... I admit though, I'm frankly much more open minded about many more things than the average person.

I just adopt the practice of trying not to knock something I personally can't relate to.

Just because you don't get something doesn't mean it doesn't merit artistic qualities...which essentially means somewhere someone can relate to it spiritually.:2 cents:

I am not a music snob by any stretch. I love many different types of music. I consider myself to be a music lover of the highest degree.

I have genuinely tired to "get" rap. I don't. If you like it, fine by me. I don't...at all.

Sparky....will you marry me? :D Damn, I'm already married! :dunno: How about just a torrid affair instead? :1orglaugh

I can't stand rap music no matter what it is. I just hate it, and I can't stand it when some of my friends listen to it. :2 cents:

We both been around here for a long time and while I have enjoyed reading your candid and in-depth stuff, I have to say Jagger, I'm surprised to be reading this sort of "This Sucks" or "I Hate" post from you.....caught me by surprise I guess.:dunno:

While I certainly disagree with you, you are certainly entitled to voice your opinion as much as the next person on here! :hatsoff:

I used to have a mixed tape (yeah, we're talking early 80s) with Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Michael Jackson and Soul Sonic Force on it.

Rock, rock, the Planet Rock

No problem and I do agree that I am ordinarily more composed than this diatribe would seem to indicate. However, had you been subjected to what was something that I find so despicable and irritating for 3 solid hours tonight while I was, for business reasons, forced to be "nice" to this client (whom I really despise), You Might have a few raw nerve endings too.

I'll eventually get over it and I will most certainly return to my nice old reasonable Jagger self once again I assure you. In the meantime, sometimes the gorilla comes out of his cage. Tonight, he came out.

Angry old white guys, represent. 95% of Rap sucks. As a genre Rap hasn't been worth a shit in 15 years. There is some really good stuff out there but it's so hard to find it's not worth the effort for the most part. Of course with that being said, most genres of music have sucked ass the last few years and not in a good way.

Fair enough.

Just saying....you not liking it is one personal thing...saying it sucks is at odds with the fact that the stuff sells billions of dollars worldwide.....in cultures and societies that have no one in them that looks like the average rapper. It was veritably on top of the "music" world for quite a while.

That alone suggests it is clearly an art as the easiest way to recognize some things as art is the ability of it's relationship to transcend backgrounds, cultures, etc.:2 cents:
