Prince Harry in Afghanistan

Legzman

what the fuck you lookin at?
Well god damn! FINALLY someone who's not using their family name as a shield to hide from the real problems in this world. Putting his life on the line like that puts him a notch up in my book. You'll never see that in an american. Here if your rich and/or famous. You don't have to join the military even if there is a draft.

Last time there was a thread about him wanting to go to Afghan, everyone had nothing but shit-talk for the guy. But now he's actually there everyone supports him?

(For the record, I always supported him and believed he was the only decent member of the royal family)

why do I find this so hard to believe?

What I can't get over is how little outrage there is that Matt Drudge leaking the location of his unit and putting his life and the life of his mates in danger.

Yes, I totally agree. That was very irresponsible to report. They could have just mentioned that he was in Afghanistan. Period, end of story. Instead, they basically painted a big bull's eye on his unit. Way to go, fucktard.

Yes. In constant danger from those inamimate targets in front of a big gun. Very scary, very brave.

I actually volunteered to protect us from an alien invasion once. We took the pictures but the aliens didn't show up.

If Drudge hadn't done it, somebody else would have leaked it before long. I personally have a lot of respect for what he's doing. He's a soldier and he's doing his duty for Queen and Country.

Is somewhere outhere.
I think it a lot of bullshit to be honest.I thought it was a publicity stunt so that it would get daft kids to sign up.

It just shows how much of a mockery the royal family really are when they had no intention of sending him to war in the 1st place - fucking twats. Now the regiment he's in is at greater risk of getting pummeled. But maybe the royals sent him there because he was too much like his mother ;) Watch this space everybody :D

Good on him. He always said he wanted to go, and when his troop were originally called up, he was gutted when the media had a field day, and prevented him from going. Least now he has had the quiet time away from the attention to actually do what he has been trained to do, get the experience and stay with his troop.

If the news hadn't blown his cover, the footage being shot would have been released anyway at a later date with proper editing, production etc when he was back and safe. What would the reaction have been if the news story was "Harry back from war after 6 month stint" if he had done his full tour?

I think he should be over there fighting. He joined the army so should have to do as the others in his unit are doing. Howeer I feel it is wrong that they revealed his location thus endangering the lifes of his regiment even more so than it already is.

Looks like he'll be doing a hell of a lot more fighting now :1orglaugh:

At least this time he won't be stuck in some wooden hut ;)

No, people in Britain didn't know. The media on the other hand, were completely aware of it (and even tailing him around), but were silent for nearly 3 months because of a request that was made on his behalf not to report the issue. The fear was that as he's third in line to the throne, he'd be a 'bullet magnet' for those fighting alongside him.

There's now something of a controversy brewing over whether the media ought to have been complicit in this matter. The dilemma British media had was that if they broke the story about Harry serving in Afghanistan, it was inevitable that they would have suffered a backlash from the public for putting British soldiers in danger. As a result, their only recourse was to keep quiet about it, whether they wanted to report it or not.

Of course it was never going to work, since foreign media weren't under the same pressure -- they could report it without fearing the ire of the public.

I understand the Monarchy is good for tourism but isn't it really slightly out of date? I mean the whole idea of people being so privledged officially, based strictly on being born to it sounds very much unequal to me.Not my country so I guess maybe I don't understand it in some ways that Brits do.But I know some Brits ,Christopher Hitchens comes to mind have expressed the same type of feeling, that it's day has passed.:dunno:
