While live censorship of audio was an issue for decades, video-censoring became an issue following the highly-publicized incident involving Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake during the live broadcast of Super Bowl XXXVIII, in which Jackson's bare breast was revealed.

In an effort to avoid a repeat, CBS decided to use tape-delay for the 2004 Grammy Awards. In February 2004, ABC announced it would impose a video and audio delay on the 2004 Academy Awards (Oscars), to safeguard viewers from any obscenities. The 2006 Academy Awards also implemented a tape delay, and the live performance of "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp" was edited near the beginning of the song.

Why would broadcast delay have anything to do with this? Broadcast delay would be coming from the control booth sending out the live network feed, and this must have happened at the control room of the local cable company.

It doesn't matter. After the nipple slip, they said nothing like this would happen again. And, it has.

They should be heavily fined.

It's fine if someone wants to look at porn, but don't force others to do the same.

Ok, but that doesn't have anything to do with broadcast delay, and it doesn't have anything to with the networks. This is clearly just a mistake/prank/whatever by someone working at the local Comcast office.

This can be easily explained.

You know when you are a kid, and you are watching porn in the living room. Then you hear your dad walk in, so you quickly change the channel. But, one time, you are watching sports highlights or something, and your dad walks in, but you are so used to reacting by changing the channel, you change it back to porn and then he catches you?

That is what happened.

In Tucson AZ yesterday, comcast somehow accidently broadcast a pornographic clip lasting 30 seconds in front of thousands of viewers during the superbowl!

This is clearly just a mistake/prank/whatever by someone working at the local Comcast office.

Or, more possibly, their network has been compromised and the intruder limits his actions to these, rare events. That way he/she can continue to do them without tipping their hand.

A lot of times corporate networks are compromised without the company even knowing. That's because they focus on prevention instead of detection. There's no bigger liability than being compromised and not knowing it.
