The kicker to this statement is that if they were born in the USA, they are citizens. This is regardless of whether their parents came here legally or not. Unfortunately, from a statistical viewpoint, a significantly high percentage of crimes per capita are committed either by illegal aliens or their offspring. Therefore, immigration issue = crime issue and it accelerates with each passing day. It consequently becomes a significant tax burden on those who are legitimate citizens. If for no other reason alone it behooves us to find a solution to this issue.

Totally agree with this but how do we do it is the big dilemma. There are really 2 major issues we face regarding immigration. The first is the fact that there are presently 11-plus million undocumented aliens (not counting their kids) that are, in fact, here whether we like it or not. Something has to be done with them so we can either attempt something that is logistically impossible and functionally inefficient by hunting them down, rounding them up and transporting them back to their country of origin. Conversely, we can institute some type of conditional amnesty that would pave the way to citizenship and legitimize them, thereby bringing them into the tax pool as they should be.

The second major issue is the porosity of our borders and the ease by which someone so determined to gain entry into the USA can do so. We can build walls with razor wire on top and put fortified guard towers up to keep the illegals from coming in. Down here in Texas, I know lots of people who are very much in favor of this. My response is to remind them that such walls and towers can also be used to keep people IN if necessary so I'd be careful what I ask for if I were them. :1orglaugh

The bottom line is that there is no easy answer to this issue. If someone has a new idea that is workable (and reasonable), I'd sure like to hear it. The past 2 presidential administrations (including the present one) seem to be clueless.

Business should never lobby for legislation? Really? Have you ever been to a bar during Happy Hour? Did you realize that in some states it took legislation to reinstate happy hour because loose penned lawmakers decided to outlaw it? So there are instances when business absolutely should be involved in looking after their interests. The alcohol industry successfully lobbied for legislation to protect theirs.

So again, I will say that there is nothing wrong with banks that are getting shafted by bankruptcy laws to seek relief in order to collect the money they loaned in good faith.

These banks didn't sign off on this legislation or reforms they simply stated their case and the lawmakers reciprocated. The questions that you answer when applying for credit are not in place to invade your privacy they are asked because of the threat of identity theft which is so prevalent now. I have had to answer those questions and I honestly felt relieved that they were identifying me properly because there were questions being asked to me that I would only know the answers to.

But long before he would have ever served any prison sentence he would have been impeached and convicted by the senate if he had done anything criminal in regards to the Iraq war. I hate it for Tommy because I grew up listening to his albums and laughing my ass off at his movies and he seems like a genuinely nice guy. That said, he should have known better than to operate a business that could possibly sell his merchandise to minors or ship to states where the product was illegal. They also found over a pound of pot in his house when they raided it. I don't see that as entrapment at all.

Anyway, he has paid the price and has moved on.
