Nobody is debating that Bush and the Republicans spent like ******* sailors. And I am going to make a concession that will surprise most of the libs. I think that Democrats have a far more responsible approach that if you are going to spend like mad at least they raised revenues to offset some of that. Republic adopted the big spending and cut revenue. The issue that I have is when Democrats claim that deficits have fallen at the fastest rate in 70 years knowing full well that they spent like crazy when they held both houses and the only time they started cutting was when they had to deal with a Republican house. But that trillion dollar stimulus would have never ****** a Republican house.
Until 1980 every president since Harry Truman paid down on the National Debt, the majority of which came from financing World War II. We had social security, medicare, medicaid, and welfare programs and the debt was still paid down. If Reagan hadn't implemented his Voodoo Economics, the entire National Debt would have been paid down by the end of Bill Clinton's second term. Democrats would have never proposed a trillion dollar stimulus if it weren't for the failed policies of Reagan/Bush. There is absolutely nothing wrong with our government spending money that it can afford, republicans absolutely agree with that when it comes to defense/military spending. Conservatives desperately want "smaller government" and are willing to destroy the economy to get it. We are seeing the endgame of voodoo economics, the goal of which is to shrink the government, rising debt, we got it, causes pressure to cut spending, republicans oppose cutting military/defense spending so they pressure to cut social programs and programs that benefit middle and low incomes. It's really simple, go back to tax rates that make sense. The wealthy have enjoyed over thirty years of low taxes, no one is saying raise taxes back to 70%, that wouldn't be fair, but the top bracket could withstand another five percent from what they currently pay, couple that with a 25% reduction in military/defense spending and we would be well on our way to paying off the debt, would be able to save all of our current social programs and probably expand some of them, and still have the biggest, best equipped military in the world.
