Nintendo 3DS priced and dated

its a definate upgrade from the DS or even the DSi's. If the 3D didnt have an on/off switchi d be more annoyed, but i keep it off 90% of the time. Its a worthwhile purchase to be sure. The addition of Face Raiders is nice and the Augmented Reality games are really neat, thats probly my favorite part of it at this time.

that feature actually got me thinking about buying a 3ds... sure, the 3d game might be fun to play, but i'm totally into augmented reality!
does anyone else have experience with those games? do they justify a purchase?

I love 'em! FaceRaiders is addictive as hell and makes you look foolish playing them by turning every which way but when playing, you are invested so much in what's going on on the screen, you ignore the ridicule of your friends

I guarantee you this stuff will be in all cellphones before the end of the summer or by the end of the year

Here's my simple review of the 3DS after having had it since March 27th

Right now it gets a 6/10.

Strengths:

3D works well
Backwards compatibility
future games look great
Feels comfortable and solid
Can take 3D pictures
Face Raiders (and other Augmented Reality games)
3DS and DSi store

Cons:
Can't stray too far from a certain position to maintain 3D
battery life is horrible (unless your just playing old DS games)
I'll repeat this one: FUTURE games, meaning, none for the 3DS launch were worth my time (I chose Pro Evolution Soccer, total play time on it is 2:30; that's 2 minutes and 30 seconds)
Camera is pretty bad (I can't really fault them for it as it can take 3D pictures so didn't expect Hollywood style quality in a handheld)
That 3DS and DSi store that I mentioned above are both not ready yet

Here's the thing about it, the system has great potential but Nintendo should have been more prepared for the launch!!! What the fuck!?!?!? They didn't have, in my opinion, a single strong title for the launch!! This is especially disappointing on Nintendo's part. Neither Mario, Link, Samus or any of their flagship characters made an appearance!

It also doesn't help that the 3DS and DS stores weren't ready and neither was the internet ability but yet they are their to TRY and access from the getgo.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I bought it and only because I never bought the DS or DSi or any those so I at least can catch up on games I missed (bought Dragon Quest IX and Super Scribblenauts which combined I've put in about 14 hours total) For that reason alone I'm glad but backwards compatibility shouldn't be the reason I bought this and especially for those who already have a DS and bought this, if that were the situation for me, I would not have bought the system and if I had, I'd be giving it about a 3 or 4 out of 5.

Nice little review, I think I will stick with my normal DS for the time being.

I downloaded Netflix on my 3DS (just wanted to see what it's like, i will probably never use it) and needless to say, it sucks. hard. it takes forever for it to load up the images of the movies, I selected a movie from my list to play and I never got to watch it because it sat there and loaded it forever. This could be due to a lot of other 3DS owners trying it out but still, it sucked. Also, it wouldn't let me exit out of the program! I had to actually power the thing down completely to get back to the 3DS main menu!! WTF!?!?!?

the netflix is doing the same thing to me. its really annoying, its something i hope Nintendo fixes through future system updates.

Game selection suced at the start, the titles i was really looking forward to dont start coming out until the holiday shopping season. Kid Icarus and Mario Kart are probly out in November. I am going to get Star Fox for the new multi player system that looks really amazing, already got Ocarina of Time. Its not a bad system all in all, just Nintendo butchered the launch by putting out the titles nobody cares about...(they cant complain about the slow sales because of this)

Thats a shame about the netflix. I used the internet browser other and it seemed to be pretty good. Alot better than the psp's.

There were some good launch games, but you shouldnt have to wait 3 months before a must buy game comes out.

Nintendo apparently already slashing the price on the 3DS. im no marketing genious, but this is not a good sign, it usually isnt when done this early

Yeah, what the hell!?!? I wouldn't mind to see some sort of credit for this since I reserved mine and had good faith in Nintendo!

Edit: Apparently they're giving us free games on eShop

http://ds.ign.com/articles/118/1184688p1.html

Nintendo is also rewarding early adopters (anyone who buys the system and takes it online before the price drop goes into effect) with 10 free Game Boy Advance games and 10 free NES virtual console games, all of which will be available to them on the 3DS eShop before they become available for purchase to the general public.

That's definitely not bad but I don't know how I feel about it

Thats awesome to me. The virtual console has become one of my fav things about the system. I like the idea of not having to dig out my old gameboys to play old games.
