Edmonton Oilers General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the club has relieved Craig MacTavish of his head coaching duties.

Named the eighth coach in Oilers history on June 22, 2000, MacTavish compiled a career record of 301-252-103 (.537) in 656 regular season games over the course of eight seasons between 2000-01 and 2008-09.

MacTavish became the 36th coach in NHL history to win 300-or-more games with a 5-3 win versus the Vancouver Canucks on April 4th at Rexall Place. He finished the 2008-09 season ranked 11th in both career wins and games coached among active NHL coaches and sits 36th all-time in wins and 41st in games coached.

He completes his coaching tenure behind the Oilers bench ranked second among Edmonton coaches in games coached, wins, losses, ties/overtime losses and winning percentage.

Tambellini stated, "On behalf of the entire organization, I would like to thank Craig and his family for their outstanding commitment to the Edmonton Oilers and the city of Edmonton over the past 10 years."

The former Oilers' captain has a 17-13 (.567) record in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and became the third coach to guide the Oilers to the Stanley Cup Final.

Hello Sexy girl how your Toes doing?
Detroit looking good so far. Montreal hanging with Boston.

I don't know but Detroit looks and plays like a physical team come playoff time. rarely have I seen them as physical as they played last night then they had all season long.

IMHO Detroit vs. columbus was the 2nd most physical game, after the Bruins vs. Canadiens series so far. which was even more chippy than Redwings vs. Bluejackets IMHO. :yesyes::crash::fight::mad::D:hatsoff:

Wow...big overtime win for Pittsburgh. I thought the Flyers had 'em late in regulation. It's a tired phrase but game 3 is must win for Philly (duh!).

What can you say about last night's game? Ducks came into San Jose and just punk'd them.

Taking game one in the toughest arena in the league is huge for the Ducks. Sharks worked all year for home ice throughout the playoffs and 60 min. later it's gone. If big Joe doesn't step up, the Sharks are doomed. Go Ducks.

Boston Bruins defenseman Matt Hunwick has been taken to the hospital.

"It's related to [his] spleen," said Boston Bruins head coach Claude Julien. "And that's all I can tell you right now.

"Obviously, he didn't feel very good and our trainers did what was right and called an ambulance. Hopefully we can get some good news here as we move on."

Hunwick, like the rest of his teammates, was in Wilmington's Ristuccia Memorial Arena to attend a team meeting, held at 10:30 a.m. prior to the Bruins playoff game against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday evening.

"He was fine," said Julien. "When he entered [the building] this morning he was still feeling fine.

I haven't had a chance to see what happened in that Habs/B's game. Was it really nasty, rock'em sock'em at the end and is this injury related to the ending of the game?

Seems like every year, an athlete has a spleen injury. Your spleen is an inside organ, how can you injure it? :dunno:

A few weeks ago, this guy I play pick up hockey with took a puck to his stomach. Left a nasty bruise but we all thought no big deal, it will wear off. Well about a day later, he ended up going to the hospital in pain and had to spend the night there!

No surprise for me , Lundqvist is such a great goalie and Theodore well..... let's call it like it is , he just plain sucks ! They put young Varlamov in net this afternoon witch is a good decision by Bruce Boudreau but even with their high powered offense the caps won't have what it takes to get through this one. They are one great goalie away from being a stanley cup contender but untill then they will just be a good regular season team.
