I think the main reason why you don't see as many black people in hockey is because it's so expensive to play as a child. Not to say that ALL black people are middle to lower class, but you see all these guys in the NFL/NBA that are from the ghetto, and none from the NHL.
It only costs like 10 bucks for a BBall/Fball that 10 guys can use as oppossed to the insane amount of money spent on hockey equipment/an indoor rink.
I read in Sports Illustrated a few years back that black people actually have stronger backbones than the average white person (not sure if this study was DISproved). If hockey was the new "urban" sport among black youth, you would see alot more black people in the NHL.

This is a good point, however I'm white and growing up playing hockey was hard for me to. I had a hard time understanding why hockey was so expensive. And I dont know if any of you guys still play today, but now the sport is more expensive.

Well, that also has to do with the fact alot of the U.S. doesn't go thorgh winter like the North and Canada. Hockey is a winter sport, so of course people in Texas won't be playing it.
And once again, it is also the price, like everyone said. A hockey rink is pretty expensive for a school and takes up alot of maintenance. Why have a hockey rink when you can have a field where you can play football, baseball and soccer?
