Nikkala made me do it!
Melrose took a few weeks off, then went back to work for ESPN after the 1st of the year. :2 cents:

Who are these guys? -- This is what happens when you put forth 60-minute efforts and when 20 players are on the same page.

After months of failing to have either, the Tampa Bay Lightning are turning things around. Even though Vincent Lecavalier and Martin St. Louis were held off the score sheet Wednesday night, the Lightning still managed to skate away with a 5-3 win against the Buffalo Sabres at the St. Pete Times Forum.

The victory was Tampa's fifth in its last seven games. With the All-Star break here, the Lightning find themselves nine points out of an Eastern Conference playoff spot with 35 games to go.

''Vinny and Marty carry this team all year,'' said forward Jeff Halpern, who had a goal and an assist Wednesday night. ''Even if they don't get points or score, I thought those guys tilted the ice for us at times when the other team was pushing. I think the way our team is playing these last few weeks, we're getting goals as a team.''

Interim coach Rick Tocchet was pleased to see contributions from players other than Lecavalier and St. Louis, who combined for 14 goals and 22 assists in the Bolts' previous 12 games.

''It's nice to get other guys scoring,'' Tocchet said. ''Eighty-two game schedule, you've got to have that if you're going to win.''

the rest of the league is starting to take notice

did anyone else see tim thomas go after Kostitsyn the other day? that cool to see

In other news, Lindy Ruff cancels Sabres practice in favor of team activity: PAINTBALL!!!

Glad to see they have time for that instead of beating the bolts:violent:

Just ordered two new jerseys from NHLShop: Chicago's Winter Classic jersey and Los Angeles' third jersey. I'm gonna have to get a Islanders jersey for September, soon, too...

What's everyone's predictions for the All-Star game?

i predict the East to win. check this out:

Martin St. Louis, Tampa Bay's top scorer and a native of the Montreal suburb of Laval, was named Thursday to replace an injured Sidney Crosby on the Eastern Conference roster for the 2009 NHL All-Star Game. :nanner:

i also predict Sheldon Souray to win the hardest shot contest.

My prediction is that Patrick Kane will have a big night and be named the Game's MVP. As for who will win, it doesn't really matter.

Tampa Bay 5, Buffalo 3.

yeah baby!

Dam, that was a good game. Too bad Lacav and St. Louis didnt score on those breakaways.

And about the San Diego Gulls, from what I remember as a child and teen going to the games, everybody in the stands was having a good time and the team was good. I absolutely think NHL hockey could have a home in San Diego, the only problem is where going to need a couple million dollars for a new arena.

it was. our secondary scoring was on fire, especially the blue liners. that just means Marty and Vinny will bounce back against Montreal on the 27th

i remember going to those games too. the first i went to was a Gulls vs. Manitoba Moose game. that was fun. i'd be all for selling the Chargers to get a hockey team :nanner:

I think he has proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he wants to stay in Tampa with the way he has been playing since all those stupid trade rumors from Montreal started . Go Vinny !

It originated from Toronto and was hystericaly amplified by Montreal Medias... and i really mean hysterically. We have heard daily about Vinny for almost 10 straight days in each sport bulletin in all medias.

It was fun to hear Habs fans on the radio saying, the whole time, that it was some media hype and such a thing will never happend... then to hear radio animators hyping some more the fact it is possible.

A media survey showed that the trade rumor was the 13th most significant news (quantity-wise) since the beginning of the 21st century in Quebec...

While Montreal (especially our medias) looked like idiots in this story, it can only show to everyone who might have a doubt that hockey is a religion in Montreal. A religion with many irrational beleivers, especially in the medias.

Hopefully, the case is closed now. :hatsoff:

I have a feeling for West to win.

It's NHL fever time in Montreal. All those great players in town, without a coach looking for them at the hotel (nightlife paradise is Montreal's nickname!).

I'm pretty sure i might walk by some star player downtown in the next days. :nanner:

Lecavalier is in the hardest shot contest in the all star game. hopefully his shoulder is finally 100%. the last thing i want is for him to get the hardest shot but need another surgery...

Yeah.

If Vinny is healthy, he can carry the Bolts to the playoffs. And i would love to see your team in there this year

that would be quite a miraculous turn around, wouldn't it?

Yes. But i'm sure the Bolts can play as well as everyone expected them prior to the season start.

You have several money players in Tampa, money players that perform at their best in the real season. You have veterans who know how to win. You have a goalie. You have some talented youngsters that can blossom anytime.

I'm a beleiver: Bolts will make the playoffs!

oh there's no denying we've got the talent. it's just taken a while for it all to fall into place and all the guys to click. it seems to be working now.

i'm still surprised at how underrated Mike Smith is. the guy is unbelievable
