So Andrew Shaw gets three games, James Neal gets one, Arron Asham gets four (and should have got more) and now Torres is going to get a multi-game suspension as well. Anyone want proof that playoff hockey is intense?
Maybe the fans felt he had several seasons. However, they had a brand new regime last season and he missed most of the season with a knee injury. Also, the system that Guy Boucher runs is the 1-3-1, the same system that the Devils ran when they were winning Cups. I think he would have been a lot better this year in Tampa than you'd think.
So both Florida and Jersey have pulled their starting goalies, both after giving up 3 in a row. Can anyone remember this happening in the playoffs? Especially only 3 minutes into the second!
Maybe he would have performed under the 1-3-1 system, but it doesn't seem to have helped any of the goaltenders in Tampa. The X-Factor, I think, is Phoenix's coaching staff. They've worked magic with Bryz and Smith now and turned both from part time starters to full blown great goaltenders.
I wish the Tampa boys were still around so I could ask them who they think Tampa should get to fill their net next year. Aside from Schneider, of course. Everyone is going to be after him.
Wow! Panthers! Start Clemmensen for Game 4? I have always loved Jose Theodore, and I have always had faith in him and felt that he's a stellar goaltender despite the many aspersions that have been cast against him (in my opinion, unfairly); he's always performed well and his struggles were always overblown. However, I say you start Clemmensen for Game 4. He was pretty good in net and the Panthers went from down 3-0 to winning 4-3 with him in net. And he's proven himself as a starter when he had to fill in for Brodeur (irony) a couple of years back and he played really well this year down the stretch for the Panthers. See if it works, if not, the series is tied 2-2, you have two of the three remaining games at home, and you can go back to Theodore...
Theodore has never seemed to be that great of a playoff goaltender (though I guess you could chalk that up to the team's he has played for), but I like him too. He's a legitimate good guy and he's a capable goaltender for any team. He just has a lot of really bad games.
That said, I would start Clemmensen in game four. That's the third game in a row where Theodore has let multiple goals in rapid sucession, so I think he needs to just have a break, sit down and maybe take a look at the Devils' attack a bit better.
Oh yeah, and Diva, Marlo... How about those Red Wings getting beat by a good goaltender?
NOW YOU KNOW MY PAIN!
