I wouldn't exactly call losing to a team that had one less point in the regular season a choke. A really big dissapointment, yes, but not really a choke.

The NFL, and even the NBA has teams in cities that aren't exactly considered that big relatively, and they make it. The biggest example I can think of is the Green Bay Packers. It seems more like a heartless marketing decision than one of actual sustainability if the league really wanted to make it work IMO.
