NBA '09/'10 Season Thread

I think Lewis can hang with KG much better than Varajao did. I have drunk the Orlando koolaid. I think they can take the Celtics. We shall see if the ESPN experts start riding the Celtics' jocks like wide-eyed groupies...

I'm laying 3-1 that LeBron will be getting off a private jet at Newark Airport on his way up the NJ Turnpike to exit 16W in a few weeks with a VERY rich Russian man and a famous rapper from Brooklyn!
Remember where you heard it......:yesyes:

Yep that's where he's going lebron loves jigga he probably even gives him Rim Jobs!

Maybe he's off to get that DWade jersey or Kobe jersey we all told him to get last year ;)

In news worthy of the term ~SHOCKING DEVELOPMENT~ it appears the Cavs have fired Mike Brown, last year's Coach of the Year :o Whoops.

Will the Phil Jackson to Cleveland rumors ruin the Lakers title run???

I think the Media want to work themselves into a froth over LeBron stories...playoffs and championships be damned!

He has to be from a different father. I like Lakers, he likes Celtics. I like Red Wings, he like Maple Leafs. I like USC, he likes Notre Dame. I like 49ers, he likes Green Bay. I like Dodgers, he likes Red Sox. WTF???

WTF for sure. Who does you dad like? lol
Lakers, 49ers, Dodgers - it sounds more like you and I could be brothers, except for your terribly misguided support of The University Of Spoiled Children :ban:

:1orglaugh That's got to be the dumbest rumor yet. No way does Jackson go to Cleveland.

The Hawks just fired Mike Woodson today too.

If Jackson leaves L.A and still wants to coach, he'll go back to Chicago. Assuming they get the other piece they need. (Lebron)

There is lots of good coaches available though. Scott, Johnson, Fratello, Cartwright etc. Definitely better than Brown and Woodson.

Maybe after the Lakers win Lebron will want to go there. :D Nah, I've been hearing rumors of the Bulls landing him and other big pieces this off-season.... whatever, go Lakers!!

I don't think it's THAT crazy of an idea. If it's the only way for Cleveland to keep LeBron then I could see them making a desperate move to get PJ...

I just hope it's Cleveland who starts the rumors during the Finals!!:thefinger

I like how the story now says, "Mike Brown not fired; will be evaluated"..sure, if by evaluated you mean evacuated :rofl2: Right, Cleveland

Biggest surprises in these playoffs; Celts beating the Cavs in under 7 games and Phoenix ripping through the Spurs. I had San Antonio as a dark horse to win the whole damned thing.

In the last month and a half of the reg season, SA had beaten Cleveland, Boston, Denver, Orlando, Lakers and Dallas.

I thought they were setting up for another run.

biggest suprise to me was denver going out round one.

Technicallly, Mike Brown wasn't fired, his contract was up.

Boston played as well as they could and still barely hung on to win. I like our chances in this series. One good quarter was almost enough to win the game.

Unless this is being influenced by LBJ I call this a big mistake. Brown isn't their problem. The front office is.

LeBron is at least one of the top 2 players in the league but Cleveland has been a great team under Brown and some credit has to go to him for that.

A much greater team under Brown in LBJ's first 6 seasons than Chicago was with Jordan in his first 6. It took Jordan about 6 seasons to get Chicago out of the cellar to NBA champs. Although Jordan was competing against far better opponents then. But the Cavs were on a earlier pace than that if the front office would have kept their dick skinners off the roster.

Bringing in Shaq was a mistake and only would have worked under optimum circumstances. Not only did they not need him, they would have been better off without him.

All this isn't to say the Cavs might not find a coach just as good or better but Brown did a good job IMO.

I think Brown has been a terrible coach. He's been outcoached year in year out. He has some good defensive schemes, but wouldn't adapt throughout the game. His offense was basically give Lebron the ball and everybody get out of the way. I think the talent on the Cavs roster is more indicative of the wins than the coaching. He couldn't bring all that individual talent into a cohesive team unit, like Doc Rivers did in Boston, and it showed in the playoffs.

I agree they didn't need Shaq though. I think he was brought in more as an expiring contract than a useful player. They used the excuse of needing him against Howard and the Magic, but we all saw it was Clevelands undersized guards and terrible perimeter defense that lost that series for Cleveland last year.

Clearly you haven't been actually watching the Cavs play if that's your conclusion.

Players like Delonte West, Daniel Gibson, Ilgauskas and Varejao have been far more valuable to that team and have won games for them more so than players like Shaq and Jamison combined.

There have been several other players who've stepped up and made plays an in some cases have won games for the Cavs besides LeBron.

For example, I watched the Cavs beat the snot out of the Pistons at home in the conf. finals...and LeBron was on the bench while Daniel Gibson beat Detroit.

Every year the Cavs front office has had their hands on the roster...Why bring in Jameson and Shaq because Orlando fluked up and beat them last season??

5 game sweeps aren't flukes. Orlando owned Cleveland in every aspect of the game last year. If it wasn't for an incredible last second shot, it would have been over in 4. Definitely not a fluke.

They added those players because they know they can't win with what they had. Gibson, Ilgauskas, West, Williams, Verajaeo, Pavlevic, etc are just not that good. Where has Gibson been since that Detroit series? Non existent. Sure they've each had a couple stand out games, but a lineup with those guys is not championship material. They had to add pieces. They just added the wrong pieces. (Jameson, Shaq, Parker, Moon)

Anyway, here is a good article about Lebron.

Like I said...you must not actually watch the games. Orlando won the series 4-2 and 3 games could have gone either way in that series...2 of which Orlando won.

Orlando was a few plays away from having a 3 games to 1 lead on the Lakers..but still lost the series 4-1.

The margin of the series win isn't always indicative of how close a series might have been.

And Gibson for example hasn't been around because the front office keeps bringing in players that it pays more so they must play them more.

Although Mo Williams has earned his keep, did they actually need MW when they already had a player like Gibson making plays on offense and defense?

Several players on the Cavs have played at a higher level than I could have otherwise imagined. Some of that has to be attributed to coaching.

Phil Jackson is considered a great coach. But it's not because of what he got Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and Shaq to do in winning championships. It's because of what he was able to get out of the role players he had along side them.

I don't care who the coach is...you don't win the most NBA games in consecutive seasons without good teams. Good teams most assuredly go back to the coach.
