Mixed Martial Arts

I've only gotten to see one K-1 event. They are way too expensive, but I've seen a lot of kickboxing sanctioned by other sanctioning bodies. The girl I used to train with is pretty famous in the kickboxing world now I guess, in fact, Steve Mazagati is one of her friends on her myspace page. She lives in Australia now, and is married to an Australian kickboxing legend. I used to go watch her fight all the time. When I started kickboxing, I was just doing it for fun, and to get into shape. Toward the end, I was starting to kick around the idea of getting in the ring myself, and my instructor was starting to drop hints that I should, but it's a big decision to make, espescially when you're a heavy weight. Right around the time I was conscidering it though, I was hit with health problems, and it never came to be, so I'll be left wondering "what if?" for the rest of my life.

I still thoroughly enjoy watching kickboxing, but I enjoy MMA more even though I'm a pretty new fan to it. It just seems that a lot of technique is lost when stand up and ground is combined. My friend, who is a grappler, Judo/Jiu-Jitsu says that it's the same with their ground games. I take his word for it because I've only done a very limited amount of that stuff. I wrestled for three years in high school, but it's not the same thing. When I was taking my combat grappling class, I actually sparred with Joe Stevenson. My friend just pointed out to me who he was. I didn't even realize I knew him. He tapped me out in about 15 seconds because my instinct, as a wrestler, as to stay off my back, so as soon as I went to my base, he was choking me out.

I used to enjoy boxing a lot too, but after watching UFC, it's hard to watch because it just seems so slow paced anymore, and they're always stopping the fight because the fighters are grabbing eachother.

Boxing is done. I see on ESPN they're hyping Boxing, and just watching the Rocky movie trailer and seeing Boxing fights... i'm like man, MMA is so much better...Boxing has NOTHING on MMA... and that is why its more popular now and the largers growing SPORT in America.

It's not just the fact that MMA has more action, it's the fight schedule. If boxing had adopted a fight schedule like what UFC has where there is a title defense practically every month, it might have had a shot at keeping people at least interested in it, but this shit where fighters fight after they've spent all the money from the last fight, and gotten fat and lazy in the meantime is bullshit. There are just too many sanctioning bodies in boxing too.

I can't stand boxing. At all.

I can't stand boxing. At all.

That's why MMA has taken over.

Screw Boxing, i want kicks, punches, takedowns, submissions, ground and pound and kness and elbows.

Indeed. :) How anyone can watch that boring garbage with guys just punching each other is beyond me. Anything can happen in MMA.

60 Minutes had an article on MMA tonight. It was pretty good. I didn't know it was going to be on until it was on, or I would have given everyone here some warning about it.

Don't forget UFC Fight Night Live tonight at 8 on Spike! I'm looking forward to seeing Karo Parisyan again tonight. I love his judo throws!

Yeah, I can't believe how unstoppable Diego is. It was nice to see him get a win doing something other than his ground and pound. I don't like him very much, but there's no denying, anymore, how good he is at doing his thing.

The hell with Diego - its all about BJ Penn.

Don't forget to watch Unleashed and Inside the UFC tonight on SpikeTV.

I don't know. I haven't seen either of them fight enough to really know, but man, Tito sure seems focussed, and it seems like when he's this focussed and determined, he's pretty dangerous. I don't even know who to root for though I don't dislike either of them.

I caught this show on MSNBC last night called "Warrior Nation". It's a documentary mini-series that looks like it's going to follow MMA fighters from all levels of the sport. I really enjoyed it. If you're an MMA fan, it's definately worth watching.

I must have caught a sneak preview of it because the article I found on it says that it doesn't start airing until January 9.

Here's a link to the article I found on it:
