Megadeth Vs. Metalica

Slayer? Sorry, but double bass drums and way-too-fast guitar playing are a poor substitute for vocals I can understand.

I like both Metallica and Megadeth because they're among the few bands whose CDs are good enough to listen to all the way through. Both of them have some kick-ass lyrics (Metallica on Ride and Master, Megadeth on everything up to Writings, I don't have their new stuff but I've heard it isn't as good). I am a sucker for Metallica's instrumentals, though. I could listen to Call of Ktulu on continuous loop for days.

again with this confrontation?
It's from the beginning of their careers that they are put together...Metallica are better here, Magadeth are worst there...They have been two of the most influential band in the late 80-early 90! now there are band who are way better than M&M...like Machine Head or Protest the Hero!
Anyway I prefer Megadeth...even if they are no longer with the classical and unbeatable line-up (Menza, Friedman, Elleffson, Mustaine!!)

Wow. I hear that a lot about the engineering on that album, but maybe I've just played it so loud over the years that it has ate away at a few of my brain cells or something because that's one of my favorite albums of all time. :dunno:

The prob is the fact that Newsted's bass is turned down to point where it cannot be heard anymore. I love the album. Helped me get into thrash metal, but that is why some dislike it.

It is why I don't like it. The songs are good though, but I don't mind a good sound too.
Ride The Lightning is their best album anyway.

Slayer hasn't released a decent album since Seasons in the Abyss (1990). At least Dave has proven his band still has that special something that made the band famous to begin with. Slayer and Crapallica are like old farts trying to rock. Slayer think that if they are LOUD and FAST then they are good. It takes more than loud and fast music to make you good. You need decent riffs and solos as well. And a singer that can sing (not scream like Tom Araya does).

So stick that in your pipe and smoke it :thefinger

:nono: Diabolus En Musica ripped from beginning to end!

Not in my eyes (or should that be ears?) it just kept the sound that Divine Intervention had. And that, by the way, is a bad thing. The band has been on the same road ever since.

Personally I like all the stuff Slayer has done, but World Painted Blood is their best since Seasons. A true return to form.

I heard it and I wasn't pleased with it. I would personally throw World Painted Blood in with Divine Intervention, Diabolous In Musica and God Hates Us All. The whole sound to the new album (mixing) isn't anywhere near as good as it used to be on the likes of Seasons In The Abyss. And with a price tag of £15.99 in HMV forget it!. I wouldn't buy it for £5 never mind £15.99. Reminds me of the new GNR album it is on sale now in HMV for £3 lol. It is also a part of the 2 for £10 range as well in the same shop. That is another album I wouldn't squirt piss in the direction of if it was on fire. Slayer like GNR are long passed their prime imo.

To me World Painted Blood for Slayer is as much a return to form as Death Magnetic is for Crapallica.

Both fail to capture the glory of the past.

I have to admit when I first heard St Anger the album I wasnt impressed. But I went to see metallica at the RDS Dublin and hearing the title song St Anger live it really grew on me.

Yes they trashed that stuff out then ran it through computers but I still gotta hand to them, They genuinely tried to do something new like more empathize on drums instead of guitar solos and heavier bass. I guess you gotta be into the drums to appreciate I know a focal part of metallica's sound is the kick ass guitar solo's. But kudos to them for trying it just didnt work like S&M.

Invisible Kid my favourite song on this, I used to load it up to that wolverine game for the original xbox....One of the few games to enable custom soundtracks before the 360 profile options. Kicking sabertooths ass was epic.

i do agree but i think slayer did better than matalica

Sure Jeff (Hanneman) and Kerry (King) created a better album than Jimmy and Lar's new album. But both groups fail to get close to either bands older stuff which is my dislike for the albums in question. So WPB is better than DM imo that's nothing to shout about from Slayer's corner as tallica are well passed it so it wouldn't be hard to out rock them.

The only band from "the big four" that can still cut it and sound like they did in their hey day is Megadeth. Anthrax, Slayer, Metallica are useless. I can only HOPE that the new Anthrax album when it comes out is a return to form for them and according to Scott Ian it is a loud and heavy and aggressive album... we'll have to wait and see.

Mustain got kicked from metalica and created his oun better band that rocked harder and continues to rock harder than Metalica ever could

Okay, I don't wanna be the ass here, but here's the deal: if you gonna start such a thread, at least make sure you got the band names right. Anything looking funny to you in the title and your first post?

And just for the sake of it, you've also spelled Mustaine wrong...;)

METALLICA evolved into a megalomanic superpower while MEGADETH stayed grounded and never went too far away from its roots of Speed Metal. I think that METALLICA's black album is a masterpiece, but of course lightyears away from the first four full length releases, even though ...And Justice For All was a first step into that direction, e.g. "One". As someone put it already here, it's not a bad thing if a band evolves unless it evolves into dogshit, and everything that came after the black album is a pile of shit to me. Well, Death Magnetic on the other hand isn't too bad, but fans from the early days, like me, will have to keep the old records playing, which isn't a bad thing, because even after the 100th time of listening to Ride The Lightning it doesn't get boring. For me personally Dave Mustaine has also done exactly that with MEGADETH, I'm still all over Killing..., Peace Sells... or So Far..., I even like the much hated Rust In Peace album, and I think Countdown To Extinction can be seen as some kind of evolvement, because it has another flair to it than its predecessors, and Youthanasia too, but then I lost my interest in MEGADETH completely because after listening to Cryptic Writings I didn't even remember one song, and that's a bad bad sign, and so I haven't heard a single tone from their following albums. It's the same with SLAYER, after Seasons In The Abyss I was pretty much done with them, but what they have produced before is groundbreaking and quite historical for the Metal world.

Anyhow, I think that METALLICA's success is based on the black album, because it is the one that glues the musical history of the band together. To say that every old school METALLICA fan was stoked about it would be some kind of stretch, but enough people from the old days liked it, but most imprtantly (for the band) it brought masses of new fans in, and from there on it was megalomania.

The only band from "the big four"...Anthrax...

Some might argue with you there that the fourth band of 'the big four' should be TESTAMENT.

Well "some" can argue all they like, pal. It will be a lost cause on their behalf.

Anthrax was the bigger band of the two and this is why Thrax, not Testament, is a part of the big four.

Type "The Big Four" into google my friend and see what comes up.

Anthrax, Megadeth, Metallica and Slayer.

And no I don't hate Testament, I prefer them to Metallica of any period.
