There's two types of lost fans. One that doesn't give a fuck about the characters and only want answers, and everyone else who watched for the character journey. You can tell who was which after the finale.

There are two types of Lost fans. One that is capable of critical thinking and being engaged by what they see, that appreciates a complex mythology that reflects and interacts with the lives of the characters, and recognizes the lame straw-man plots that have been thrown up for no reason but to be torn down and be dissatisfied with an ending that isn't built on anything. And everyone else that just goes along with whatever they are told, that laugh at every cheesy one-liner, are tantalized by the cryptic message ending every episode and summing it up for them without thought of what actually happened, are emotionally moved by each musical cue to do so, never really "get it" but write that off and ultimately will love the ending because it wraps things up simply and effectively.

Not one person i know ever really cared about the generic love triange between Kate, Jack and Sawyer. For most people i've spoken to that stuff got in the way of the truly interesting and puzzling aspects of the show.

As I said, I do care about the characters, but I don't like that most of the show was irrelevant mysteries for their own sake that really didn't advance the plot or even have much of any effect on the characters other than to invoke a thoughtless, fleeting reaction that only played through til the next episode (or in some cases just the next scene) where it would be forgotten about when a character encountered something else that was strange, ad infintitum.

D-Rock summed it up perfectly. I'll post it again:

"I want something I can look at in the end and go, "So that's how everything fits together and I can see things perfectly fall into place plot wise now that we have all the information“.

That is precisely what the ending lacked.

So I finished watching the entire season over the weekend, and the finale was pretty much a cop out.

Way too many plotholes for a show that was so ambitious.I lay equal blame on both the creators and ABC.

I heard someone mention that the pilot and the finale were the first two shows written.I guess that makes sense because of some of the things that connected, but I also believe that a good portion of the finale changed,or they had more than one to fall back on.

It's partially the networks fault because they forced the creators to stretch out a show that shouldn't have been any more than 4 season into 6,and you damn sure better believe that if it weren't for the slipping ratings after season 3 and 4,they would've tried to drag it out possibly for at least another year.

Subsequently, what you got was watered down story that consisted of pointless and contrived plots. How many times did we have to hear something like,

Any Major Character #1
"Where are you taking us?"

Any Major Character #2
"It would be better if I just showed you."

or

Any Major Character #1
"Who are you people"

Any Minor Character
"I think you need to worry about yourself instead of us."

And so on and so forth.

All throughout the shows run, people on the show would ask question and rarely would they get a straight answer. That's pretty much a microcosm of the entire show. Many question, few answers.

Well, Lost Season Six hits shelves on DVD and Blu-ray in about a month. Is anyone going to buy it?

I'm debating it myself. I'm not sure if I care to see the season again and whether the extras are really worth it- IMO the only thing that could be worth it.

It seems that the complete series package will contain bonus features that won't be on the season six stand-alone discs. So all the people that bought the stand alone versions of all six seasons instead of waiting for the box set wasted their money? Once again the fans are fucked over.

I agree with that. I also think it's interesting which questions they chose to answer and which questions they did not. I REALLY enjoyed the show overall. But did I really need to know about the origins of Jack's tattoo (Stranger in a Strange Land)? I think I'd have rather known more about Eloise Hawking's time as leader of the Others and how/if Charles Widmore displaced her. And how did she wind up at that former Dharma station in L.A.? How was she able to appear to Desmond in his visions and how did she know all that she knew? I think I'd have rather known more about how/if Richard originally formed the Others, and how Jacob was able to justify this group's violence toward otherwise innocent people... ya know, if he was such a "good guy in white". One could almost argue that the Others would have been better agents for MiB rather than Jacob. But by the end, I no longer saw Jacob as the (purely) "good guy" and I no longer saw MiB (before getting tossed in the light cave) as anything but a guy who wanted to leave the island. I'm not even sure that he was purely evil as the Smoke Monster. Other than Jacob's claim (and his word is a bit iffy, IMO), what evidence do we have that MiB was purely evil? If you ask me, Jacob, directly or indirectly, caused more hell and destroyed more lives than about anyone else.

And getting back to the afterlife church for a second, why the hell was Shannon with Sayid? He married Nadia. He spent years of his life trying to find Nadia. He killed for Nadia. He deeply loved Nadia. Shannon was basically a (really, REALLY) hot piece of tail that he was chasing while trapped on a crazy island. That just seemed strange. Who would I be in the afterlife with, the love of my life or some girl I picked up at an airport hotel after my flight got canceled during a snowstorm? :dunno:

Great show. But yes, overlooking the well written (melodramatic) ending, there were lots of holes.

I look at the story from the characters' point of view. They themselves are not concerned with these mysteries, they're just looking to survive and/or leave the island. Would I have like to have gotten more answers? Of course, but a lot of them weren't necessary to be answered and I like that the show still has its mysteries and we can then still discuss it. I liked the ending but I do agree that why the hell was Sayid with Shannon at the end!?!? My only guesses are they couldn't get the actress who played Nadia back for shooting or they were looking for a reason to bring back Shannon.

Loved the show and it is still probably my favorite of all time.

Edit: Also, the DVD of season 6 is said to have a few more answers, such as where Walt was and what happened when Hurley and Ben ran the island

Lost gets 12 nominations, including well deserved nominations for Terry O'Quinn, Michael Emerson (was anyone doubting he wouldn't get one again?) and finally Matthew Fox! Personally I think Terry O'Quinn deserves best supporting actor due to having to play someone who was the opposite of the character he has played the last 5 seasons.

For some deep rooted mental reason which I don't understand
I've still only watched the finale once.
And I'm still confused.
And a little disappointed.

But anyway, I'll get to watching again it soon.

Why,because he's right?

Actually,I don't think it's the "worst" show ever, but I do think that they failed with the finale, but I knew that they would.

This is the first time I've ever been to this thread because I didn't think I'd be able to handle reading posts saying the greatest show to ever be televised "sucked". But then it dawned on me, anyone who would say that is retarded.

Some of the friends I've made here might even have said such a thing, and if confronted about my opinion I'd tell them they are retarded. So this is not a knock on any certain individuals, it's a knock on anyone who said LOST sucked.

The only thing about the ending that disappointed me was that they all died. I kind of wanted to see an open ended ending. You know what i mean. Leave the possibility for a movie open.

I agree. The church scene kinda took away from Sawyer etc escaping in the plane and Hurley and Ben still on the Island. The writers may live to regret that if they don't do well with new shows. They could have always done a lost spin off but now????

Them all dead was probably hundreds of years in the future. Which leaves plenty of space for a spinoff or movie. (That will never happen)

I loved the ending btw. Glad they all got back together.

Don't count out a spin-off. You know how these television companies can be. Though I can't imagine what it would be about.

But no Eko and other major characters. I like what you said about hundreds of years into the future. Who knows how long ben and hurley lived on that island for!

ok so some, or most died on the island right?
sawyer and kate and miles and frank got back to the real world and lived out their lives there.
jack died.
hurley and ben stayed on the island and protected it for who knows how long until they died.
and they all wound up living in an alternate universe together at some point, i suppose after they were all dead.

have i got that right so far please?
I don't know what happened to desmond.
i also don't get what triggered the point of them finally "moving on".
if it was desmond's actions both on the island and in the alternate universe well that stuff happened while they all weren't dead yet, si i don't get that.
