Re: Should Prostitution be Legalized in the US?

One is fantasy, the other is reality. This conversation has been had before in another thread somewhere already, so I won't go further into it.

Let me ask you this though:

You are saying that paying to watch somebody have sex in a porn is no different than paying someone to have sex with you, as you claim both are prostitution. Correct?

Well, if you honestly believe that paying to watch porn on your computer (or on DVD) is no different than paying to actually have sex with a prostitute, then...

Wouldn't every single married guy who watches porn be cheating on his wife? :dunno:

I personally could care less or know whether a man is cheating on his wife or not. I'm no moralist.:dunno: It is up to each individual person/couple to determine what they feel is 'cheating'.

I didn't get your question at all:dunno: ,but what I'm saying is someone who is watching/pleasuring himself by watching a woman engaged in prosttution(get PAID to have sex on film)yet pass harsh judgements on 'sex workers' is a hypocrite. Porn stars get PAID to have actual sex.Period. Last time I checked getting PAID for sex is prostitution & criminalizing it is absurd as women have been trading sex for favors since the beginning of time & will until the end. And no amount of hypocritical self righteousnerss will end it.

You are saying that people who pay to watch porn are hypocrites if they don't agree with legalizing prostitution. Why? Because people who perform in porn are paid to have sex, just as prostitutes are paid to have sex. That is not necessarily true, which I'll address in a minute.

I understand what you are trying to say, but you are forgetting that one is fantasy and the other is reality.

Also, what about pornography that doesn't involve sex at all? What about solo girl porn? Or, webcam porn where the girl does nothing but strip? Those people aren't paid to have sex, so are they prostitutes? :dunno:

Keep in mind as well, there are people who pay prostitutes to do things other than have sex. There are people who pay prostitutes just for their company. There are people who pay prostitutes to give them a lap dance. There are people who pay prostitutes to perform a strip tease for them. None of those acts involve sex, but they are still, most definitely paying a prostitute for their services.

Or, what about mainstream, Hollywood actors who are paid to intimately makeout with one another, lick eachother's bodies from head to toe and touch eachother in intimate ways? They aren't penetrating one another, but the kissing and touching are most definitely real, so if you watch movies like that, yet disagree with legalizing prostitution, you would also be a hypocrite, according to your argument.

That is exactly why you have to seperate fantasy from reality, which you are not doing.

Re: Should Prostitution be Legalized in the US?

what it really seems to boil down to is that it's illegal to pay someone to have sex with you, but it's not illegal to pay someone to have sex with someone else, because you aren't paying them for the sex you're paying to watch them have sex and the sex is given out for free. I think that is the real reason why porn is let off the hook.

Re: Should Prostitution be Legalized in the US?

Anyone on this site who watches people perform sex acts for pay and then says prostitution (sex for pay) should not be legal is being VERY hypocritical and inconsistent IMO.

Think we had this question before BTW.

Amen.

Prostitution is, to me, nothing outside of women who are being exploited implicitly daily in our world deciding that explicitly commoditizing that exploitation is empowering. Ironically, I think that it's the implicit vs explicit relationship which causes the problem. Society wants to exploit without it costing it anything.

I see nothing wrong with prostitution as long as it does no mental harm to the woman, and I hope that it's helpful.

Re: Should Prostitution be Legalized in the US?

Prostitution and Porn are merely two products of the Sex Industry. The entire Sex Industry needs to be decriminalized and UNIONIZED. That way, workers get protected and must conform to a set of standards and "consumers" get protected through their consumption of a "safe" product. If businesses were allowed to offer a "regulated" product, we'd get a much better product. We'd also have our citizens getting laid a lot more (there would be "Rooster Houses" for the Ladies too) which would make people "relax" more.

With the proliferation of Cialis/Viagra, with the "fear"marketing campaign that there is an epidemic in Male Potency going on within America, making these drugs necessary, and with the increase in "cheating" and some STDs correlating with the marketing of these drugs, it's almost insane to "ramp" up the sexual engine of men in this country and yet make it illegal for men to "release" that pent up frustration...

We could have a safe sex industry in this country with various "high quality" sex clubs and "Chicken Ranches." We could make pimping obsolete overnight...

Re: Should Prostitution be Legalized in the US?

America is too prudish about nudity and what not to ever accept a practice like that. (Not condoning it, just wanted to point it out).

Most of my views are libertarian, so I would welcome legalizing prostitution, as long as it is between consenting adult, and wouldn't mind some sort of medical screening, like in the Nevada counties. As a consumer I would like it; kinda like hospital safe tattoo shops.

Isn't there a huge problem in Asia with girls being abducted and used as sex slaves? The asian sex trade or somthing like that. Prove me if i'm wrong. If you legalize somthing like this the problems wouldn't go away just like that. There would have to be strict policies on this.

Yeah there is, I think (I'm in between the two sides of the topic to be honest). The argument to that, if I understand correctly, is that if you legalize prostitution, you open it up to government regulation. Regulation of the sex industry would in turn prevent things like that from happening (or at least greatly reducing it) through laws, penalties, etc... Also many believe that because prostitution is illegal, that many prostitutes who are beaten, raped etc don't ever go to the police because what they are doing is against the law. Thus, the train of thought is, if you make it legal, prostitutes who are beaten and such would be able to go to the cops, thus reducing the rate of these crimes.

Re: Should Prostitution be Legalized in the US?

Criminalaze street prostitution, but legalize escort and brothel prostitution.
Zone it in industrial areas where children and families will not see it similiar to nudie bars and adult bookstores.
Tax it and use the money for education in public schools.

Peace.

Re: Should Prostitution be Legalized in the US?

Society has always risen and fallen on the integrity of the family. Look at histories countless examples. Legal prostitution would destroy the family unit in the USA much like it has done in Europe without question.

I dont know about you but I like being the worlds number one superpower. Being the only nation that matters is pleasing to me. Apparently not to any of you.

Legalise prostitution?

Make it legal and safer for sex workers.
Give them clean places to work in and let them pay taxes.

It works in Nevada, New Zealand, Holland and a few other places, so why not everywhere?
