jimmy carter to meet with hamas

Jimmy does get credit as the president who got an agreement signed in the mid east with Eygpt and Israel signing the camp david accords.Nothing as big as that has been done since. And we at least got to be willing to talk, talking is good no?
Or do we just take a hard line and ignore them and hope they just go away or something. And with Carter since he is not an official its not like the US govt is sitting down with them.He can't make any promises ,he can just talk.I don't see how it could possibly hurt.

listen only, gauge the temperment/ retoric, see if the problem can be fixed. if not , target and identify as many high level types as possible for liquidation

I just keep remembering that he was the one, without the president asking, went to North Korea and signed that horrible deal that President Clinton felt he had to honor for some reason. That didn't work out so well.

Carter seems to believe that nobody in the world is a bad guy or might have bad motives. I wouldn't give those people the prestige of meeting with me if I was him.

As far as I am concerned, Hamas is little worse then recent Israeli governments that treat all Palestinians like second rate cattle. I don't like Hamas. And they will have to drop this 'taking their land back' nonsense. But if I had lived for over a generation as second rate human's, I'd be pissed off also. They aren't terrorists (for the most part). They are just desperate.

Not even worth a comment.

For once, I won't write a lengthy sermon on the Israeli predicament.

Only so much: You cannot talk to Hamas. Their only goal is the destruction of Israel, eventually fulfilling Adolf Eichmann's task.

I'm afraid, if not violence, demographics will sove the matter in favor of the Palestinians.

Shalom! :(

Isreal GDP per capita $28,800 US.
The West Bank and Gaza Strip GDP per capita - $1,100 US (and Israel virtually controls their economy).

Yeah, the poor Israeli's.
Is it Israel's fault that the PA under Arafat has embezzled billions of dollars that could have significantly improved living conditions for the Palestinians? Arafat has betrayed his own people, in effect paving the way for the rise of Hamas.

Hamas' electoral victory was also founded on the disenchantment of the ordinary folks with the Fatah government, not only on the Hamas fierce rhetoric and brutal actions against Israel.

Don't give me that Israel = oppressor shit, please!

Who is to blame for that? Stop blowing things up and maybe....

Isreal deliberately incited the intifada when Sharon went to the Mount. And for every Israeli that has been killed by the Palestinians, at least 10 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli reprisal raids. Hamas are acting wrong and dumb. But Isreal has brought this on by suppressing the Palestinians for too long. They're recent government's are little better then Hamas and worse then Fatah.

Olmert's administration is inept. I give you that!

The Arabs had more than one opportunity over the course of sixty years to broker a lasting peace (UN plan 1947, following Sadat's example after 1978, the Oslo Accords 1993, the Camp David summit 2000).

They refused to strike a deal every time. Why? Because they do not want to live in peaceful coexistence with the Jews. They want Israel's eradication. Nothing less.

It IS mostly Isreal's fault that the Palestinians GDP shrunk by 8% last year. That has nothing directly to do with Arafat, seeing as he is dead.

It is an easy enough equation:

The Palestinians guarantee security = Israel will open the borders.

Israel has after all a vital interest in cheap Palestinian labor. The government doesn't seal the border for fun.

The Arabs have been fairly useless, I agree. But as long as Isreal controls the Palestinian territories (which are officially in Isreali territory), then they have to take a large part of the responsibility for the terrible living conditions that the average Palestinian has lived in for over half a century.

I admire and respect Isreal. I just think if they ever want true peace they are going to have to give the Palestinians full and complete autonomy. The hardliners must let go of their hate, because they hold the cards. What they say goes.

I guess we just see it differently. I just hope that they fix that mess, soon.

Didn't mean any offense.
