Had the Times Square bomb detonated . . .

Why save the world, when you can rule it?
What the Irish Americans around the Boston area? Yeah they really kept the IRA going.

Libya sent more aid to the IRA than anyone else.

We're falling? Since when are we an Empire?

Ooooh let me guess we're hand in hand with Roman history at the time of Elagabalus. Oh NOOOOOOOOO!!!!

So a small contribution to terrorism doesn't count? Ah, then I can finally reveal my donations to Al quaeda without fear of suffering the wraith of people on this forum...

Part of my original point was that america was never an empire, but even so, you are falling; you're in debt, your literacy rate is falling while other countries rises and you're much weaker in military terms than you believe, while all the while china rises.

That's right, I said you are suffering in military terms (arguably the most important area for a nation to be capable in);

M1 Abrams weighs too much, has no active or passive protection systems, has a delicate turbine engine which inhibits co-operation with infantry (tanks without infantry are almost as vulnerable as infantry without tanks), lacks sufficient anti-infantry capability and lacks long range anti-armour capability despite no less than 3 highly expensive programs to give it the latter.

F15,16,18 and 22 (and perhaps most importantly, B52) can't take off from a makeshift strip (airstrips are primary targets at the outbreak of war) and F35 won't change that.

Only two nations in the world possess supersonic (harder to intercept) cruise missiles. Neither one is america.

You're corrupt military procurement system is switching you to stryker when M113 serves better (and is combat proven, already in inventory and incredibly flexible) and claims the Bradley is aquatic when it is not.

You're still using M16/M4s and when you attempted (not for the first time to) replace them the result was an EVEN-SHORTER-BARRELLED 5.56MM CARBINE which melted when used on full auto and so was eventually declined as replacement. Most other nations have been smart enough to switch to bullpups.

Good luck protecting your "super"-carriers by the way - no missile-interception system has ever made anything but a post terminal intercept in a genuine engagement. Which means that any nation with a couple of ageing TU95s and a couple of ageing Kitchen missiles can sink a whole squadron and a carrier to boot. If they have more up to date equipment they can do it from longer range.

Wow we are aso dooooomed.

China btw plans to be a regional power projected through it littoral fleet. It has no plans or capacity to be a global player since it does not want a deep water navy.
Russia has a weak navy, ageing bomber force with limited capacity and outmoded tanks which our M1A tanks have mauled time and time again through proxy.

As for our main battle rifle we're already looking for replacements.

Like or not chum we're a global player and nobody come close to us.

So sell your analysis to someone who doesn't know dink about military issues.

Is that why china has so devoted so much cash to getting Pak Fa and their stealth bomber? Do you REALLY trust what the chinese say? You're not making the typical mistake of focussing on the Moslems and ignoring the threat posed by the dlagon are you?
Russia does indeed have a week navy (she has traditionally relied on her army, fittingly enough for the worlds single largest country).
Russia's bomber force may be ageing, but it remains effective and unlike the american bomber force (If one discounts the A10 from that force) it CAN take off from rough strips which makes it more suitable for all types of conflict.

Outmoded tanks? Are you serious? The Soviet era tanks the coalition faced were old, lacking in the correct equipment and were known as monkey models, they were never going to be a real threat to any contempory MBT.
But lets just compare these outmoded tanks to the M1 to give you an idea of which nation REALLY possesses the outmoded tanks:
Soviet tanks have had the ability to fire Anti-tank guided missiles through their barrels i n order to engage engage enemy armour from a range so great the enemy armour can't defend itself since the 70s. M1 has had 3 seperate attempts to produce a long range anti-armour muntition (at a cost of BILLIONS of dollars... all 3 failed).
The vast majority of Soviet tanks have Diesel engines, which don't break nearly as often as the M1s turbine (which incidentally also hampers infantry-tank co-operation) Nor consume nearly as much fuel as the M1. Talking of fuel; the idiots who run the usm insist on fuelling the M1 on jet fuel. The results when the M1 takes a hit which is capable of igniting the fuel, are rather predictable. That engine by the way, provides latest versions of the M1 with NO speed advantage over many contempory MBTs.
The M1 weighs too much (a whopping 70 odd tons) and is thus unsuitable.
The M1 lacks and kind of active or passive defense systems or even ERA, all 3 of those being commonly available on Soviet era tanks.
The M1 has a smoothbore barrel and therefore can NOT fire many of the rounds essential to battlefield combat (IE to engage 95% of targets - non-tank targets).
The M1s anti-infantry weapons have a range of about half a mile. Infantry ATGM teams can strike from about 3 miles (so much for knowing dink about military issues - makes me wonder which one of us that is). You do the math.

You've already had 2 attempts to replace the M16/M4 (assault rifle, not battle rifle btw)- face it - your corrupt defense industry won't let it happen and your troops will pay with their lives.
Yes your a global player, but militarily your much less capable than you believe, you allways have been and when your economic advantage dissapears (and it's doing so rapidly) you're gonna be absolutely screwed.
:)
