Hi Georges,

Define "damage"....

I lost 6 members of 2nd platoon when a regular 50 cal took out the tail rotor just as we about to deploy during Toan Thang...

..."damage" is subjective I guess.

Georges: I don't mean to be personal. I am not chastising you. Just presenting a different perspective.

But I agree with most folks here who said that "those who argue for banning 50 cal weapons because 'they can take down airliners' are talking out of their ass".

cheers,

I see what you are meaning. Remember that the m2 was used since 1937 as an anti aircraft (mounted in the majority of U.S. aircrafts, boats) and anti ground weapon (mounted on jeeps and tanks). The m2 has proven efficient through 7decades which makes of it the longest lived and most reliable heavy caliber machine gun ever produced. With the proper ammo, the m2 is lethal perhaps much more than its russian couterpart the Dshk. The vulcan is what is used the most as anti aircraft gun. It is a multibarrel gun which shoots 20mm bullets at 6000 rpm. The m61 is was and is mounted on the following planes the f105 thunderchief, f104 starfighter, f4 panthom, f106 delta dart, f15 eagle, f16 falcon, f22 raptor, ac 130 spectre, b52h, but also mounted on corvettes, frigates and missouri class boats as a phalanx system.

The m2 and a Barrett are two completely different animals though. Shooting a plane out of the sky with a machine gun v. a semi-auto or bolt action are two completely different things.

But again, anything's possible. Just not probable.

Never been into the WW-vintage rifles all that much. If it's got a wooden stock I'm not much into it, with the exception of a Thompson. Most of what I like is anything modern.

My Grandfather was in the Infantry in World war 2 still has his Mk4 that he used from normandy right though to the end.

Damn! Is that the Indian one?

cheers,

Indeed it is. Following my procrastinating tendencies, I decided to start doing the research on the gun after I bought it, well I found out that they can only handle 7.62 NATO spec ammo, which is loaded to much lower pressures than comercially produced .308 winchester. Well, I can't find any surplus .308 anywhere so I have to roll my own. I was planning on doing that anyway, but I'm even having a hard time finding new brass.:(

Here Zombie, Zombie, Zombie...
7.62? x38mm? x25mm? x39mm? x51mm? x54mm? x63mm? x33mm?

Okay now I'll say it. Huh?
Do you want those calibers?
Don't we all.
I wouldn't mind parking a 105mm in my driveway. Bet I wouldn't get door-to-door salesmen.

Just adding to the short comings of the previous posts with 762 in them... seems like it was a continuing thing.

I'm not a big fan of it. I'd still love to try out a .308 AR.

Mr. Daystar

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
