Game of Thrones

It's the boring, useless characters that I want to see get knocked off - not the ones who I actually love to hate... like Joffrey. Joffery is like a less bright, more weasley (I know that's not a word) version of Ben Linus from Lost. He's a great character, though a bad person. I could also do with a lot less Sansa Stark and a lot more of her little brother/sister, Arya. I'm hoping that maybe Arya holds a grudge or something against Sansa for their dad getting beheaded, and pokes that little needle sword into her ribs if they meet by the end of the season.

IMO, they do need to polish off some characters though. The Wire was genius at juggling multiple storylines and showing just enough of the major and minor characters to keep things interesting. Most shows struggle once the cast gets too big. This show is on the verge of having too many characters for all but the most devoted fans to follow. Also, I've read that HBO is pressuring the writers to make the show more politically correct. Fuck that! Just tell the story! If they turn this into some sort of show that reacts and changes based on modern social beliefs, I'll have no problems switching it off.

If HBO are being pressured to make it more politically correct, Dan and Dave have only themselves to blame for writing a load of superfluous stuff concerning Loras' "deviancy" in regards to the Loras/Cersei marriage pact which didn't happen in the book anyway. In fact, Loras being gay and Renly's consort was only ever hinted at in the book anyway and never made explicit - everybody talked about it, but nobody knew for sure. Just as nobody knew for sure if Stannis was fucking his red priestess. HBO don't seem to like the idea of implicit, they'd rather give us explicit in the hope it sets tongues wagging.

To be honest the sexpositions are getting stupid in terms of adding nothing to the storyline other than titillation. I'm laughing at most of the nudity and sex scenes at how unnecessary they are. Dany getting brutally fucked by Drogo in the beginning = important to the story and her transformation from slave to queen. Tyrion and Theon's scenes with Ros = good little scenes giving backgrounds to the characters. Dany being naked in the tub when Daario comes to her tent = gratuitous and unnecessary. Melisandre fucking Gendry just so they can leech him = gratuitous and unnecessary.

Well, from an artistic point of view anyway. :drool2:

he was the guy blowing the horn and pissing Theon off i guess.

The horn is a pretty big clue, yeah. Lord Bolton told Robb last year that he could send word to his bastard at the Dreadfort who could raise a couple of hundred men and retake Winterfell. Robb told him to. Northmen came to Winterfell. One was blowing a horn.

Ramsay is flaying Theon, starting with his little finger. Lord Bolton had quite the chat about flaying with Robb last year. Jaime recognized and made comment about the flayed man sigil when Locke and his troops took him and Brienne on the bridge. The man on the sigil is in an "X" position strikingly similar to the one that Theon has been position in for much of the series.

So.... yeah, to my mind, anybody that paid attention to series 2 or watched it again near to the start of series 3 would know exactly who took Theon - the Bastard of Bolton and his men. But I've been told in another forum that nobody remembers what happened last year so yeah, spoiler it seems.

Yes, yes, yes we saw all of Dany tonight. My sunday was complete. I had to rewind that part about 5 times on my DVR. God is she gorgeous, I would totally fight for her. :D

What a set of perkies on Dany. That being said, I want that strawberry MILF Melisandre. The mother of what, is best not spoken of. I may not have King's blood but she gives me a royal hard on.

Loras mentioned " French sleeves" to Sansa by the fountain in episode 6. Kinds pissed me off.
For something to be French there must be a France, aint no France there........Bad error by all involved.

That's funny. As soon as he said that, I thought the exact same thing! I thought he said "French" too. So it was "fringe" or "fringed"? OK. I can live with it then.

Here's where I'm getting frustrated: they only have 4 more seasons to finish telling this story. Four! Not ten. Not seven. Four! And by spending so much time just showing this character's tits or ass and playing the game of which character gets mutilated or castrated every episode, they're wasting a lot of story time on things that are just meant to get tongues wagging. And if they're using focus groups to decide storylines and bending to pressure from feminist groups and other whiners, well, I'd rather stop watching after this season and then if I get around to it, I'll rent the DVD in a few years... if I feel like it. In a way, I kind of wish that I'd done that with Lost. Although that was a fun TV journey to watch live, it did sort of peter out toward the end. I'm already pretty sour on most of the mindless crap that's on TV. So I'd rather not become any more emotionally invested in a show or characters if they're just going to write to the typical Hollywood formula, where I can pretty much predict what will or won't happen.

I haven't read the books, but I hope they go back to writing scenes that occasionally piss people off or end with unexpected happenings if that's what the original story demanded. But if it's just going to be "the good guy/good girl wins in the end"... see ya! :wave2:

Don't you worry about Dany having ideas above her station. She may be the baddest ass of them all.

I'm hoping that they begin writing her character to be less one dimensional. She's a fan favorite. So we'll see if the writers have the guts to knock her down a peg or two and show that being arrogant just because you have dragons has its downfalls too. I like the character. But right now, she's the hero in the white hat (with the white hair to boot). Dany good. J*n Snow good (why is FreeOnes editing out that name?!). Theon bad. Joffrey bad. Less one dimensional writing!!!

One of the problems with the medium of television as opposed to books is you miss out on all the inner monologues. In Dany's POV chapters she's constantly worried about if she's making the right decisions, how she's coming across, and the eternal battle between what she's actually like and the queen/conquerer she has to portray. Plus she's always worried that if she lets herself get close to anybody, they'll either get hurt or prove themselves false.

They missed out some of the character-building stuff with Daenerys in the House of the Undying - in fact, her entire story was different in Qarth compared to the book. She receives the following riddle/warning :

". . . three heads has [NOBABE]the dragon[/NOBABE] . . .
. . . three fires must you light . . . one for life and one for death and one to love . . .
. . . three mounts must you ride . . . one to bed and one to dread and one to love . . .
. . . three treasons will you know . . . once for blood and once for gold and once for love . . . "

... so, yeah. They could have done a better job showing that actually, she's still the scared little girl underneath.

One of the biggest problems I have had with the series and I'm sure the television shows are similar is that there seems to hardly be any "good guys" in it. For the most part it seems like it's a story pitting the bad people against the even worse people. Sometimes the occasional anit-hero or somebody that morally apathetic with some good tendencies will be thrown in.

Without knowing anything about the author, I'm guessing that was one of his aims. I've thought why is Westeros worth fighting over or fighting for? It's just a bunch of conniving, back-stabbing SOBs. But the same could be said for the rest of that world. But I think Ygritte nailed it when she said (paraphrasing) "I am yours and you are mine, Jon Snow. And that's the only thing that matters to me." THAT is worth fighting for and rooting for. Without having read the books I'm pretty sure that relationship is going to come crashing down to some tragic end while Joffrey continues to use whores for crossbow target practice. (If Shae, I quit the show for good.)

Martin said this on "good guys" and "bad guys" :

“The battle of good and evil is a great subject for any book and certainly for a fantasy book, but I think ultimately the battle between good and evil is weighed within the individual human heart and not necessarily between an army of people dressed in white and an army of people dressed in black. When I look at the world, I see that most real living breathing human beings are grey.”

So yeah, everyone who's good is also massively flawed. Even the characters that I think deep down have pretty decent moral compasses are spiteful, vengeful, selfish, hotheaded or arrogant.

Or are fond of a bit of twincest. ;)

Haha. So true. Tyrion Lannister's flaws are that he's a drunkard and a whoremonger. Other than that, he's a true noble and gentleman (like Brienne, but with a sense of humor). The look on Joffrey's face when Tyrion verbally emasculated him at the wedding reception was priceless. There's a bottomless pit waiting for Joffrey and his mother somewhere.

I also don't read fiction when I can get those kind of things like moral relativity and grayness watching the news. Part of what makes a true "good guy" special is when they can be what they are despite the inner evil that everybody, even them, has inside of them and is capable of. When the chips are down they don't rationalize bad things and aren't found wanting. You would think that out of such a large cast of characters there would be at least a very small handful of them that can rise above. It's even more impressive if they can maintain their integrity in a world that doesn't respect their values.

Hey here's an idea Samwell, TAKE THE KNIFE THAT'S SUPER OLD AND JUST KILLED A WHITE WALKER BY JUST STABBING HIM! DON'T JUST LEAVE IT THERE!!!

So, apparently I'm a little slow on the uptake.

I just finished watching Season 2, and for the life of me, I can't figure out who sacked Winterfell.

Was it Theon's men? There were only 20 of them, but I suppose they could have lit the fires on their way out of town. It just didn't seem like they were interested in anything other than leaving.

Or was it the Bastard-led rescue posse sent by Robb Stark? If so, why would they want to burn the place down?

Clearly I missed something.

***BEWARE POSSIBLE SPOILERS: From Season 3, episode 6.***

In the episode titled "The Climb" near the end of the episode, Sansa is crying with Shae as they both look out in the bay of a ship. I believe Sansa is crying because she knows now that she is to marry Tyrion.

My question is about the "image" or what looks to be an image on the sail of the ship. Does anyone know what the image is? To me, it looks like an image of Ros with arrows in her depicting her death when she was killed by Joffrey and his cross-bow.

Is this what I saw or did I read too much into the image? And if so, does anyone know what the image is?

Also, was Sansa crying because she realizes that she has missed her opportunity to leave with Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish?

The show has not made it clear who put Winterfell to the torch, not even so much as a clue. I can tell you if you really want to know, although I suspect it will be made explicit by the end of s3.

It's the mockingbird, Baelish's sigil. Look close.

Yes. She told him that King's Landing was her home now, and she's crying because now it's too late, and she has to marry the Imp.
