Fuckin' Somalian pirates!

I can't believe my eyes.

Seriously, what the fuck is going on?

It is 21st century. There are powerfull seafaring nations in the world, there are modern aircraft carriers in the fleet, there are satellite systems, there are battle-planes and helicpoters...

So how that motherfucking cocksuckers in Somali are able to fall aboard new ship every week?!

Ain't it a crying aggression with impunity?!! They hijacked so many vessels, that it is hard to count!
more than 100 ships in 2007.
more than 90 in 2008 (from january to november)!

This autumn they hijacked a vessel with T-72 tanks (!) and anti-aircraft guns on it, a few days ago they hijacked an oil tanker!

It was not just a usual tanker. It was fucking huge tanker, with 2 million barrels of oil (it costs more than $ 100 000 000), and the tanker itself costs about $ 150 000 000!

They have more than 300 hostages from the hijacked ships, and they treat them worse than prisoners in Guantanamo!

Ain't it a real threat and rampageous crime going on here? In that fucking Somali they even do not have normal government, the whole country is ruled by gangs, pirates and other crazy assholes, for whom war is a normal lifestyle.

Pirates usually recieve a large ransom for the hijacked vessels and crew members, and they build real palaces in their fucking Somali. Their leaders buy new guns and fast boats for new attacks, they buy expensive cars for themselves and live in luxury.

I only want to understand: why there is still no military operation against them?!
It might be hard to defend every ship in the ocean, but it is 100% easy to trace and find bases of the pirates, and destroy them on the continent! Almost every country in Europe, and USA too had suffered from pirates in Somali, but I never heard about any plans of missile blow, or military campaign agaisnt them... Aren't they a bigger threat than Iran or something? Not in 'hypothetical future', but right now?

Why a bunch of bastards on a high-speed motor boats with rocket launchers are able to keep in fear all the maritime traffic? and all the world in fact?

I can't get it. Absolutely. It's just like a movie has become reality.

There are legal issues at stake. What do you do with captured "pirates"? Do we construct a Guantanemo Base like place for them? Somalia is not exactly stable enough to provide law&order.

I'm not sure they should be classified as "Pirates" since they aren't after cargo. WHat would they do with all that oil, for example? Build their own Chevron station somewhere? They are kidnappers and ransomers.

It is a strange development in the world...how this band of thugs is able to organize and take over all these ships....

Most modern Navys are built to confront "seaworthy" enemies. I look at some of these "pirate" vessels and they look more like leaky fishing boats...

Isn't it more the case of less hardware, more impact??

They use fast moving, small boats with good group work. The targets they go after are unarmed therefore little opposition. To stop them is very hard as they are a very small target before they board their intended vessel.

If the Navy - of which ever country that would like to try - was going to stop them, they would have to interrogate every small boat, a task that naval fleets are very poor at as they prefer larger military objectives. IF you want to overwhelm the navy, just send out lots of kids in small boats and the navy will be over stretched.

So what you going to do?? Land attack their bases??? After Afgan, Iraq and possibility of Iran, can't see anyone jumping at that idea.

Put armed services onto ever boat that goes through the region?? Possible, but a lot of human resources are needed.

If the respective contries want their ships back, then they are going to have to bargain or use force. I think a trigger happy solider/pirate on an oil tanker is a prospect most people want to avoid.

There's got to be a bigger interest there because it is not possible... I mean it would be so easy to control:

A cargo ship or oil tanker or whatever, reports his position every x minutes to the coast guard (ie: US COast Guard, NATO ship, whatever). When they get attacked, they report it to them, at the same time, a couple of ready F-15 or whatever planes report to the area (a few minutes away when flying at 1,000 km/h). They spot the pirates, the unload a missile, problem solved.

I know is not that easy but COME OOOON!!

Bunch of fuckers riding speedboats against a huge military force that CAN surveil the area and detect pirate boats in no time.

Do not quite understand why is this taking place. Guess it is keeping the area quiet, or maybe balance of power in Somalia?

Yes, I think that military operation against their bases is the only solution. It can't be compared to Iraq or Afghanistan, cuz there are different reasons for it, there would be no political background. They are just plain criminals, who attack ships. And they understand only the language of brute force. They do not have any political aims, or idelogy, they just want money, like any criminal in the street who robs you. Why can't aviation deliver a missile blow to them? To destroy their palaces, their boats and themselves - on the shore?

Johnny Depp as Captain Sparrow will be the negotiator between "civilised world" and pirates. :D

Even a we speak, someone is writing a screenplay to this and will sell the rights paramount, who will sign up Bruce Willis to be the brave captain of the tanker, who manages to pick the pirates off, one-by-one...

So there's the script for Die hard 5

Tunsty, you are definitely a Holywood-style mastermind! Sue them if this goes real. :D

I tend to be a bit of an isolationist in international affairs, but if there were ever cause for an international military alliance or U.N. military action, this is it. We have 12 nations working together in the MFO to keep the Suez Canal safe and neutral. It makes just as much sense to work together to keep the mouth of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden free of piracy.

I will not, I say NOT, tolerate the use of the word 'mastermind' when referring to myself..

'Master-Wanker' is adequate.. :hatsoff:

It used to be that there was an unwritten rule that was sort of observed by most of humanity in the past that pirates were considered a universal "enemy of humanity" and were to be killed on sight with little consequence to the people hunting them down. What we do now I don't know, but I wouldn't be opposed to just blowing them out of the water when they are found. :dunno:

I think that the reason why the US doesn't do anything about it is because they don't stand to gain anything. If the government saw something good coming out of stopping the pirates, we likely would've seen the highjackings end a long time ago. Unfortunately, the US is so hypocritical that they claim to be the world's police and will meddle in other countries' businesses when it's convenient for them, but will turn a blind eye to something like this.

Will E Worm

Conspiracy...
They are able to get away with it because it's difficult to stop people that have their own agenda that are willing to die in the process. That's why I say if there is ever another war here, for our freedoms, the militia will win. Just like the Afganies kicked Russia out of Afghanistan.

China caught some pirates and then executed them not too long after.
I saw it on the History channel. ;)

Oh, I thought this was the title of a new porn movie from Digital Playground.

Someone is putting pressure (an european lady, i dont remember her name) for U.N. Operations and/or equip Somalia with a navy so they will be able to get rid of the problems by themselves. The problem? Deaf hears... and Somalia weak governement.

I'm expecting this situation to last for many more years.

To me the solution is simple. Take a bunch of freaks(like me), give us 9mm MP5s with hollow points(less deflection off steel/aluminum) and M-14s for the runners, and put us on a ship. It shouldn't matter how big because these ass clowns dont care. Load these ships with RF jammers and wait. They board, we wait one deck above the main deck, lay waist, jam the bad guy distress call then take the boarding boat by force. Have these fucks call in the base boat and "bam" the mother fuckin stage comes crashin down.
Or we could just napalm the entire coast of Somalia.
Just throwing that out there.
