BAGHDAD (Reuters) - At least 14 youths have been stoned to death in Baghdad in the past three weeks in what appears to be a campaign by Shi'ite militants against youths wearing Western-style "emo" clothes and haircuts, security and hospital sources say.

Iraq's leading Shi'ite clerics have condemned the stonings.

Abdul-Raheem al-Rikabi, Baghdad representative for Iraq's most influential Shi'ite cleric, Ali al-Sistani, called the killings "terrorist attacks".

"Such a phenonomenon which has spread among young people should be tackled through dialogue and peaceful means and not through physical liquidation," Rikabi told Reuters.

I was just starting to go into my typical "religion only has evil consequences" thought pattern when I read that. Then I started to think "at least some of them are reasonable". Then I read this:

"They are a plague on Muslim society, and those responsible should eliminate them through legal means," he said.

Would never have happened under Saddam who didn't care for Islam, now we've given them freedom and democracy the radical Shi'ites have taken over and anyone not like them which includes Christians and Sunnis have faced similar persecution

I don't think you've ever been blunt 'bout your heritage, but I want to say somewhere along the line (posts) you inferred your family were of the Muslim variety.

And as for me, I'm half Viking blood, half Alpine. Some of what Vikings did was pillage and destroy, but they also created one of the most beautiful cultures on the planet, Scandinavia, so I've no shame. Maybe it's no wonder my state has the highest concentration and is yet the best state in the country.
