Racing is life... anything else is just waiting.
Mainly diecasts and racing memorabilia, and to a (slightly) lesser degree, guns and military memorabilia.

An ex-girlfriend convinced me that I might actually have a "problem" when it came to diecasts. I was hunting down stuff on Ebay like a crack addict. During a company meeting in Montreal, I was actually going to cyber war over a rare diecast of Jacques Villeneuve's (last true) Indy 500 winning Reynard-Ford from 1995. Screw what the division president was saying, I had my own business to take care of... and I got it too! :nanner: But yeah, that told me that maybe I did have a problem. :o I try to limit my purchases to maybe one or two a year now.

I collect knives. I have 43 knives in my collection at the moment, and still growing. Butterflys, switchblades, hunting, army, swiss, kitchen, I love knives.

I collect a few things.

I've got more than 5000 movies on tape and DVD, ranging from the old Edison shorts to newer stuff like The Hurt Locker.
I've got about 1000 albums and CDs - most of them are vinyl. Most of it is classic rock.
I do have an extensive porn collection. More than 1000 magazines, and most are now getting to the point where some are probably worth a bit: a lot of 1960s Playboy and Penthouse and Hustler from their early days in the early 1970s.

Then there are the baseball cards. That is where the madness begins.
I've every Topps complete set from 1968 until 2009. I've all sets (Topps, Donruss, Fleer, Score, Upper Deck) in the 1980s. I've every Upper Deck set up until 2005.
But, the prides and joys are the older ones. I do buy new packs now for shits and giggles, but the vast majority of the cards I go after now have been produced before 1955. I am currently trying to get all of the cards of all Hall of Famers who played in the 1950s (some cards will be tough to get, like the Mickey Mantle rookies and 1949 Satchel Paige). But, I only have 40 to go, so I am getting quite close. Pretty impressive to have every card of the likes of Aaron, Banks, Frank and Brooks Robinson, Sandy Koufax and so on.
I've also been trying to complete a 1933 Goudey set, but am missing a few Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrigs from the set.
Meanwhile, I do have four cards from the 1880s, and probably about 30 more cards made before World War II (well, that total goes to about 300 if I include the 1933 set).
I figure I could sell my entire collection for a cool million...but I didn't get them for their monetary worth, I got them because of my love for the game.

My comics, Hot Wheels, books, have a sweet collection of basketball and baseball cards. About 25 binders worth of cards; a lot of rookie cards of big stars still playing now. Coins both antique, gold, silver, and old paper money including a $500 and $1000 bill. I have a lot of stuff. I'm thinking about selling some things though. I don't know.

You know, I gave it some thought, your problem young man is that you're too greedy ! Spread the wealth around a little, give BAAAAAACK to your community ! . . . or else !! :nono: ;)

Yeah, I didn't even get into my music collection, but I'm probably near a thousand. I like vinyl as well.

Did you get into the PSA stuff with your cards? I had some somewhat valuable PSA's that are now worth dick because as you probably know, the card market went to shit around the turn of the century.

Actually I'm not about to share the better stuff I have on here. Either way it is 24 years worth of stuff being collected and handed down and all that good stuff.

And no... no I will not share the wealth. Get your own.

My comic collection isn't worth near that much. I figure I have a solid 50 grand worth.

But I'm the same way. I'll never sell them. If I don't eventually have my own kids I'll be leaving them to my nephew in my will.

I've got a few PSA - I think about 20, or so. The oldest is a T206 Christy Matthewson, the newest is a 1955 Bowman Roy Campanella.
I actually don't actively seek them, but have gotten a few because they are the cheapest of that card available...so you are right that the market has fallen.

The good thing about the older cards, though, is that though the value has decreased somewhat, you don't see the dramatic decreases like newer cards. Remember that, at one time, the 1985 Mark McGwire rookie card was worth more than $100. Now, I think it is about 10 bucks or so.
But, once a guy goes into the Hall, that is it...his card is not going to nosedive unless he does something really, really dumb (which has not happened yet). Sure, the 1953 Mickey Mantle Bowman card might only be worth 10,000 as compared to 12000, but it is still a remarkably worthwhile card.

I collected Zippos, but stopped when I quit smoking.

I still collect shot glasses and unicorn horns though.

The best way to ensure a unicorn horn is legit is to make sure it's still attached to the unicorn's head.

You're the reason why unicorns are endangered! :(

My dad threw out all his cards when he was a kid (just like almost every other kid) - but he had Duke Snyder's, Mantle's, Berra's. My friend's mom apparently had a Babe Ruth card when she was a kid - that got chucked.

As late as 98 cards were still brining in good money. I remember Sosa RC's fetching upwards of a hundred, and when Kurt Warner came out his first RC witch was a split card with that wide out, that was worth some $ too.

Go to any shows anymore? Back when I was still a runt, we'd go every week, my dad and my friends. Back then (in the 90s) there were shows every week, sometimes two or three. Now you're lucky to find one.

I'm honestly not sure if there are shows in this area anymore. Last time I went to one was about five years ago. Last time I bought anything from one was back in the early 1990s.
Seems the 1980s were kind of a heyday for shows. It was before the hobby got too ridiculous, and more collected for the joy of collecting, rather than the cash. I got a lot of very nice autographs at that time from the likes of Aaron, Spahn, Musial, Bench, Rose, Paul O'Neil and a few others. It was back when you could find tables and tables of guys with boxes of cards on top, full of pretty good 1950s and 1960s cards - pull them out and the guy would pretty much make up prices off the top of his head, rather than flip through a price guide (or, now, have them pre-listed).
I get a lot of mine now from eBay - amazing what can be found there, as long as you do your homework. I did pick up a lot working at a card shop in the early 1990s, and I had a friend who worked for the local garbage department who found a few good boxes for me (one box hand rookies of Bench, Tony Perez and Joe Morgan, along with several other 1960s hall of famers).
