I learned the hard way two years ago, after my own mistake...

Since then, I backup to an external harddrive every Monday.

Every Monday. Every Monday.

What about you? And if you aren't - shame on you. :crash:

I typically don't. But, the crash of my laptop took me about 30 hours and a lot of coffee to drain off needed and personal files. Now I have a network with 4 PC's, and just do data dumps all over the place.

Yahoo will also give you a free 1gb storage space for this very reason.

No, I never backup, but I really should. Although most of what I have can be somewhat replaced, I have a handful of things I'd especially **** to lose. I managed to ruin my computer some time ago, where I had to burn several CDs to save my most important things. I was lucky I guess, because even though my computer was a complete mess, I still could burn a couple of CDs before it was too late.

I've been thinking of both some kind of online storage and CD burning to prevent me from losing some of the things I can't just replace easily. I'm just so lazy and tend to forget about it.

I only back up the data, pictures, etc. I can always copy back the original programs.

This is an exceptional piece of software.

You define your backup and where to send it locally or on a network and click one button or set it for automatic copies.

I never did before, but after having lost all my pics and other things this second time. I do back up my pics now. Burnt twice shame on me.

It always worth considering the worst-case scenario..
what would you do if your house were to burn to the ground? (Yes, I know it doesn't bear thinking about)
Well, yor insurance would cover the cost of replacing you PC(s) but what about all the files/pics that you've amassed?..
yup, no insurance company can replace those.

I have backups of EVERYTHING...I even keep old backup discs that I did years ago..it has saved me more than once when my system has crashed.

I have all of my music on an mp3 player and all of my school work is on a portable thing that I can stick into my comp and save to (I can't think of the name) it is like a disk but a lot more room and smaller

Other than this there is nothing important, so I have never worried about it

A USB drive/stick?

I used one of those as well when I had to get my things from a crashed computer to a new one. Handy little thing.

Worst case scenario? Your backup disks would be destroyed aswell. lol

yah, thats exactly what I was thinking of:thumbsup:

I had a brain fart there for a second

quite true..

But I would keep copies elsewhere, out of the house perhaps at a friends house.

Which is why many photographers I know, keep a triple backup system. At least two of their storage units are off-site.

To be honest, when I leave for a long trip, I try and remember to place my external drives in a fireproof safe. :anonymous :uohs:

****!!!!

Thanks for reminding me!

I keep my Picture Files & Contracts & Contacts on CD's & Dvd's & External Hard Drive. One set on each media. Times Three Complete Set's. One here. One at my buddies *** Safe. One is at the Bank Safety Deposit Box. I can't afford to have gals come back and do Photo Shoots all over again. And I have "OLD" Pic's from the 40's, 50's & 60's that I just got scanned and burned onto all three media x the three sets. I'm over 10 Million Pic's now. It's work, but I got to do it!!! $$$$ or :crash:

Remember, if you thought it was worth clicking SAVE, back it up!!!!
Very Good Thread BNF!!!!!

You sure you wasn't a Photographer at some point in your life!!!! Your right on the money "TRIPLE", but with the Tech. I just Triple the Media. And *** Safes work nice also. That is if your allowed in your Country, or City. :glugglug:

I don't have that much loaded on my hard drive. Everything that is important to me or that I couldn't do without I have saved somewhere, but I don't have my entire hard drive backed up. Maybe when I can get a good external hard drive I will do it in regular intervals.

I've just started backing up music/video and picture files. My computer went down a year ago and lost everything. I had been lazy getting it fixed but finally got fixed early this month. I've definately learned my lesson and started backing up files.
